Tranmere Reports
Not a great performance from the side but considering my last game was Exeter away (which was dire), this was somewhat of an improvement!!
The worry for me is that the side whilst it looked more balanced lacked any creativity in the middle of the park. Bostock went looking for the ball and tried to liven it up however it left a gaping hole where he should have been playing. Our problem is that we are playing 2 defensive midfielders in the middle of the park. I know Bean isn't supposed to be but today he played like it and they were both well off the pace. Credit where it is due, the Tranmere goal was very well worked and was the bright spot (for them) in an otherwise dire game. To bring on Cort and Hunt with a matter of minutes to go was a waste. Our front 2 were bullied off the ball and Goodison (although a cheating £$%!) did his job perfectly well. We really needed to make some changes with 10-15mins to go and personally I would have bought Bennett on at the back for either Charlie or Strevens and put Legge up front to bully them back and stop Goodison running the show. This is the first time that I have seen the new loanees and I was impressed with Bostock and his running/creativity however he needs to learn to make an easy pass every so often but at 17 he looks a top prospect. The keeper (won't even try to spell his name) commanded his area and bought confidence to his defence and Pim looked quite solid. Murphy when he came on didn't seem to like being roughed up and was spoiling for a fight. Overall a huge improvement on the last performance that I saw but still not good enough to keep us in this division, a creative midfielder is a must in January and I fear for us against Leeds if we play next week like we did today!
