Tranmere updates

The decision to leave out Peters was predictable. We all know Downes doesn't like him or rate him and it is personal between them. That says more about Downes than anything.

What really perplexes me though is that with 900 players out of work this summer we have still played the first game of the season with Eddie Hutchinson in the team.

God help us.

:crazy1:

Tranmere updates

Before the travellers get back....

I'd like to try and stay positive (despite the result I'm gutted I couldn't make it, always hate it if I have to miss opening day).

Wally abandoned his beloved 4-4-2 and Somner at left-back. That shows signs of flexibility.

Playing an extra defender away to a good side wasn't a stupid idea. It was always going to be tough playing for 80 minutes with 10 men after the sending off. Yes, its hard to excuse playing Hutch in any situation, but substitute Tabb for him and Peters for Beadle and that formation was eminently sensible.

Beadle isn't fully fit, but he is the big target man that so many GPG'ers have moaned about the lack of, and why give him even a months contract if we're not going to play him.

The Beadle/Peters issue is probably resolved by his supsension now anyway.

Every time I see Tabb I think 'first name on the team-sheet' and every time he's dropped for the next game. The penny has to drop soon, please god.

We're probably stuck with Wally - there's no candidate within the club to take over and we probably couldn't afford to sack him anyway. Let's tell him exactly where he's going wrong, but be realistic that's he's here for the forseeable.

Going back to my last post - the biggest problem isn't a lack of talent in the players, it isn't even tactics and selection, its inexperience and lack of mental toughness - 'we have nothing to fear, but fear itself'. Anyone know of a good sports psychologist.......

Tranmere updates

It will be intersesting to see how the "WALLY" defends his playing Hunt as a striker when the leading striker sits on the bench, THE PUTS HIM ON WHEN THE GAME IS LOST.

Tranmere updates

Especially when he played Hunt up front for a fair few games last season and that experiment failed miserably AND I can't recall him playing there in pre season (correct me if I am wrong though)

er... "taxi for Jonno" lol

What lessons do you think Wally will learn from this:

a) That its worth at least giving our best XI a go

or b) that he was right all along to insist on 4-4-2 with Somner at left back.

Bet now!

i go for b)

I don't think it's doom and gloom by any means. we looked promising in the Pompey game i thought, and i never really expected anything out of this game - tranmere are handy, especially at home. but, 2-1 down with 20 minutes to go, after having a man sent off after 10 minutes, doesn't sound terrible... my first thought while watching the updates was that the ref must have been against us - 2 penalties and a red card against us? (sounds like typical brentford actually :D)

But the line-up did startle me a bit. Peters and Tabb on bench? back 5? jay smith AND eddie hutchinson (again!!!!!)?

I really don't understand what Wally's up to - why no Peters and Tabb? why Somner at left back? why Eddie Hutchinson? what does he see in all these crazy ideas that the rest of us miss???

we'll lose at West Brom (best team outside the Prem), but hopefully next Saturday will see the promotion charge begin....
