Trialists?

TB has stated that 4 players are currently on trial this week with more to come in. Does anybody know who these are?

Just out of interest, can anyone think of anyone who's gone on to be a great success for us after being a trialist? I can't think of anyone off the top of my head but I'm sure there must be some........

Paul Smith (goalie) played a game as a trialist before being offered terms - I'd class him as something of a success!!

Both were signed on Bosman free transfers, they did not win a contract by trial, but by reputation and experience. :sorted:

It wasn't behind closed doors, I was there.

IIRC it was the week before the season started and he definitely played, as did Roget I believe.

Yes, the "picking them up on the motorway" story is nice, but has rose-tinted glasses. Great win though.

Jammie Slabber, mentioned on the beesotted site, if true. Apart from starting at spurs don't know much about him ..............anyone know :fishing:

Reasonable scoring record at Grays, hasn't done much recently at Oxford or Stevenage, might have been injured though. :fishing:

jamie slabber is defo not the answer,tottenham released,aldershot released,was on loan at oxford utd from grays,then signed for stevenage who released him at the end of this season.was on loan at swindon for a while.never scored a league goal,but scored a few for grays.

If he can't score, he could have done a job for us last season.

I would imagine Ricky Shakes trial period must be over now has anyone heard if he was successful? And again the question has to asked who are the other trialists?

If he's on trial and worth keeping then it wouldn't be a bad idea to play him on Thursday and see how he gets on in a match.

Yes I agree and probably the other trialists will get a game as well or play some part in the match.

Mmm...isnt that the point of trialists.....???

I recall Matt Heywood playing in the preseasons.....joy of joys we picked a good 'un there......:rolleyes:

Did he? Maybe I blocked out the memory, having said that I wish I could block out the memory of him playing in the first game of the season and looked even more immobile than Scott Marshall.

Are you sure, I thought he was a last minute acquisition as Griffiths was earmarked as centre half until the week before season kicked off.

Griffiths was suspended for the first match so Frampton played there. It was always Leroy's intention to play Heywood and Griffiths as first choice centre back pairing. Looking back it's little wonder he didn't last the season.

Trent McLenahan (? no, I've never heard of him either) was said to be on trial with us in one of the London freebie papers earlier in the week.

If he signs, I think I've sussed TB & AS's squad building strategy - we're going for the "most exotically named players in League 2" category....

I thought our Antipodean experiment might have been put on the backburner after our encounter with Griffiths.
