Turner to Reading?

A pal of mine who is well in the know at Reading told me this afternoon that a deal was done last week to take Turner to Reading in the January window. Partly Coppell likes him anyway and partly they need cover for Sonko when he goes to the African Nations Cup. My pal is normally quite reliable and i have no reason to doubt that he certainly believes this to be true. The worst of it is that when i said, well i hope we get a good price for him - how much is he going for? His response was, 'not much, i think'.

Chew it for what its worth people, but i am v. worried that it is another BFC fire sale.

Also, he told me some other stuff too - linked in with Reading, not BFC - so if that happens in the next week or two, then his info may sadly prove correct.

Where's the thread you started about Reading signing Dobbo on loan

anyway, with sonko looking sh*te last night, he'd be in the 1st team along with sodje :fishing:

Sonko i think is quite highly thought of. Also, the TV can be deceptive (unless you went, Mr H). By all accounts the local pikeys were astounded by just how quick Arsenal were. They are now kacking themselves at how they will do if they DO get promoted!! I said that being beaten by quality like the Gooners is no sin. But if they take Sodje too, we might as well all pack up and support Heston CA.

balls balls balls balls. if this was the case BB and JB wouldn't be running their knackers off to secure funding to ensure that the directors can give their solvency declarations as they could include those anticipated transfer funds.

i am as certain as one can be that there is currently no deal in the bag or even proposed for a transfer in January. One might happen after this post but am certain there is nothing at all as i type.

plus the "not much, i think" is balls too. when BU take control i am confident that there will be no firesales. the revolution starts here!

It's a pity I don't believe a word of it. Sorry Stuardo. Every player has their price.

Agreed, but not a knock down one, which was the point of Stuardo's post.

Eh???

I understood that they now had all of the monies immediately needed. Are you telling us that there is further funding to secure before we can proceed.

I don't believe it - knock down or no knock down.

Turner to Reading?

Please no, i know we have to sell but id love to see this team stay together for the season to see if they can fulfil their potential. Selling Gavin Mahon last time around always left me wondering if we'd have gone up if we had kept him.

Turner to Reading?

Back now. Having read the above few posts, all i can do is reiterate what i have already said, viz.,
* he is not normally wrong (though of course may be on this occasion),
* he i feel certainly does believe this to be true (ie., not winding me up nor making up random stories)
* his words indeed indicated that it was a low price, ie., not sort of £250k or anything like that.

Whether it will happen i do not know. But given the purported role of the GPG, i just thought i would run it up the flagpole to see who saluted it!!!

Turner to Reading?

To enhance the supposed veracity (eh?), i would also add that if the following clubs and individuals (in no particular order....) are in any way involved with each other between now and January, then we have yet again been sold up the river by good old Uncle Ron. To whit, Sheffield Utd, Joe Royle, Pompey, Neil Warnock, Steve Kabba, Ipswich, Reading.

Can you justify your "he is not normally wrong" assertion by telling us what he has got correct previously. After all there are many players (and other staff) that have made the journey down the M4 so a few examples wouldn't go amiss.

As regards the purported role of the GPG lol

Bit "after the event" with Warnock, Sheffield Utd and Pompey

But Whit and Joe Royle

No Banana i cant as i dont recall every conversation, and when it happened. Equally, i dont normally bother with the GPG these days for various reasons. However, the choice is clearly very much to believe or disbelieve what i have been told. Nowt to do with me which way you go. :sorted:

sorry if unclear i was sort of writing on the basis of their previous running around. i do believe (but can't guarantee) that the myster investor has plugged the funding requirement that was causing the last headache.

The point of my post is markbfc is that while Turner (or anyone else may go - they do indeed all have their price) may go - i am 100% certain that there is no deal already done whether it be for a big or small amount of money.

In addition with a 30% sell-on clause to Charlton why would we bother selling him for a knock-down price having just secured the funding to enable BFC to make its own grown up decisions about its future and its finances?

My own personal view is that the game on Saturday will also be a big say in how much the club can hold out for any player. A win away at Oldham followed by say a draw away (or at home) to a non-league side or away at a Man U or Chelsea or Arsenal will mean that the club can be even more bullish about sales.

Actually it's 80%. Which is why we got Mr. Turner for 2/3 of 4/5 of f*** all in the first place.

Turner to Reading?

What happens if we don't go for a fee but get a player swap or two instead? Do Charlton get anything? I've heard this lad is quite decent.

but it is still better than the deal that Bomo did to take John Spicer to their place. £35k release clause...

Yup - I embarassed my self on a number of occasions back in the mid-70s. More midfield donkey than midfield dynamo!!

I questioned Turner's sell on clause previously. A certain 'abee', whoever he is :D , said it was 66% so i'll take that figure for now as being 'correct'. :sorted:

So, we nudge ahead slightly out of the two crappiest transfer deals done in football over the past couple of years.

Turner has to leave for around £150k for us to get what AFC B got for Spicer.

Turner to Reading?

Not much more than an extended loan, is it? I suppose at least it works in our favour by having a quality player at the club.

Turner to Reading?

BFC is a selling club, always has been always will be. I am just a little concerned that something fishy is going on. I.E. Dobbo goes to Reading as a favour to us to reduce wages, and we give them someone in January. I don't know if this will affect the potential transfer fee or just a deal to give them first option, rather than let him go somewhere else.

Turner to Reading?

Reading approached us for Dobbo months ago but Allen turned it down at the time.

Depends what the confirmed sell on is.

If it is 50% we need £70k, if it is 66% we need £105k, if it is 80% we need £175k.

£150k puts the sell on at around 77%.

He is worth far in excess of that by anyone's valuation.

This is a truely horrible deal but if we had not got him we would not have a prayer of promotion and I suspect last year's cup run (which basically kept the club alive) would not have happened.

Completely agree, if these clauses are what it took to get a young, talented defender to Griffin Pk, then so be it, I actually think the club should be praised for getting him in, end of.

It's very easy to forget the sheer disbelief at the time, no-one thought we had a cat in hell's chance of getting the guy to sign. Before this gradually changes over time to "worst deal ever done along with Spicer / Bornmuff" ask yourself one theoretical question.

At the end of his loan period, would you want to sign Darren Pratley for £20K with a 66% sell-on clause???

All sell-on percentages are calculated over and above the original transfer fee, i.e. £30k in Turner's case.

Coppell wouldn't do things like that. He's not David Webb. He's picked up Dobbo because of the reasons I mentioned last week and he obviously rates him.

It wouldn't surprise me in the least that Coppell rates Turner, it's not hard to see why. Everytime Reading do not have a Saturday game and we're at home, you'll see him in our Directors Box, it's been like that since he left Brentford three years ago. He likes Brentford and our players!

I think he got a measure of his "character" in the twelve months Sir Steve was with us.

Is Coppell only allowed to buy Brentford players? This is getting ridiculous.
