I suspect this is the browser drawing slowly. This could be because i) you're on dial-up or ii) crap browser (please say it's IE )

The browser displays as it downloads but may have to make adjustments to cater for pictures etc. A solution could be to turn off avatars etc.

I loved signatures in different colours and sizes with piccies or smilies but Banana's campaign over the past year has watered them down so much their interest level is 0.

Not sure. But it may be because it's before 1/1/1970 (the birthday of Unix). Can you put it in again and see what 'appens.
