US Open

Incredibly tight at this stage. 47 players grouped on 8 or 9 under ;). Tommy Fleetwood still right in there.

US Open

He went round in 63, the lowest ever in US Open history!

I think the record he sets is -9 for a round (par 72) as opposed to the lowest score. I think there have been other 63s but on par 71 courses?

US Open

Put a baggie green cap on Harman and he's Rickie Ponting. Or is it just me?

US Open

I know their are massive par 5s on this course (and a par 3 that should be a 4) is this the longest course yardage wise in US open history?

I believe it is and does not help the golf authorities aim to speed the game up, with a 600 yard plus par 5 that the players can reach in 2 it means that courses will need to get longer and longer to counteract it

Would rather regulations were in place to reduce ball flight and size of drivers so it creates a game that both long and short hitters can play on equal footing. Would also reduce the time of the rounds

Interesting I see the course is part of a golf complex so players like me with high handicaps would probably take all week to complete a round!!!!!

Thank you for that Mr Pipe, thought it must be there or thereabouts.

Not so sure about changing the rules re ball flight club etc as it would still be relative, e.g. My 230 yard drives would be reduced by the same percentage as my golfing buddies who are longer all round the course than me so they would still have the benefit getting the ball out further, and I guess the same would apply to the pros. I personally would prefer to see more hazards, bunkers etc in range of longer hitters, and fairways pulled in so the big boys have to think a bit more rather than smash the granny out of the ball.

Anyway haven't had a chance to catch up today, hope Fleetwood does well.

They kept showing a trailer for the US Open throughout the cricket coverage. David Livingstone mentioned all the contenders in turn... apart from Fleetwood. Bizarre.

Yes you are probably correct regarding hazards, my gripe is that courses are now set up for the big hitters ( in the pro game) believe average yards off the tee in this is 356 yards !!!! Put hazards between 250 and 350 yards would, in my opinion, make it a better spectacle and reward the " clever " golfer and not the big hitters.

However I won't wait with baited breath!!

The distances they can hit drives these days is ridiculous. Adam Stacey, who used to be pro at Airlinks just round the corner from me, was telling me about the World Long Drive competitions he takes part in. His record drive, and I've just checked this, is.... get this..... 476 yards.

High time that shouting 'get in the hole' at the top of your voice got you ejected from the premises
