US Summer Series

Hey all! We have a ton of stuff planned for the US summer series later this month. First and foremost, we have worked with the club to set up meet and greets the night before each match.

The events start a little early, but given the pubs will be open to all we wanted to make sure fans had enough time to get settled in and have a meal if they like.

For DC we are working on a tailgate. More details to come soon for that. And in Philly we will have an informal meet up at the pub prior to the match.

It looks like we have 50+ coming to the DC and Philly meet and greets. So you will need to get there as close to 5 if you want to grab some food and have a table.

I look forward to meeting everyone!

John

Is the any silverware to be had if you win this tournament? ‘Champions of America’ has a ring to it.

We are now one week away from our first event! This upcoming Saturday we will meet at McGillin's Olde Ale House. Doors open at 5pm and we will be on the second floor.

Please where some kind of Brentford gear when coming so you can be identified. If you are bringing friends, no other team kit should be worn.

Sunday morning we will have an informal meet up at Tankie’s Bar & Grill before the match.

I am so pleased those coming over have enjoyed it. I think DC may be some of the best yet!

Too many complications? Is that “we’re docking so many points in the coming months that no one has a clue who will actually be in the EPL next season!” ?
More like, we want to go to Asia this year and we will be back in the US next

They also have the Copa America over there this pre season

US Summer Series

The Premier League has decided to ditch the Summer Series tour they hoped to schedule later this year.

For this summer only, the tour will not happen due to several complications around organising the event. They are, however, looking at holding the series again in 2025.

Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool are set to play one another in the United States this summer, which The Athletic reported in January. Top clubs in England are prioritising the U.S. due to expected market congestion in 2025 and 2026 with the FIFA Club World Cup and the men’s World Cup.

Chelsea and treble-winners Manchester City are also due to travel to the U.S. this summer and the two clubs are in discussions to play a friendly match against each other.

Clubs see these tours as vital for connecting with emerging fanbases in a key market. Arsenal, for instance, has more U.S. supporters’ clubs than there are states, while Manchester United engaged over 4,000 supporters in various club-affiliated events last summer.

The Summer Series has faced several other issues, one being an ongoing dispute within the Premier League. England’s top flight centrally wishes to package a collective broadcast deal for showing the fixtures. However, several Premier League clubs generate significant revenue by selling subscriptions to watch pre-season fixtures on their platforms. These clubs believe they can secure more lucrative match fees by organising games through deals with promoters independently.

The Premier League argues that there is a longer-term benefit in exposing some clubs, especially those newer to the American market, to showcase their talents stateside. This exposure has the potential to increase the international value of the competition. Last summer’s edition, the Premier League say, exceeded internal targets for ticket sales, with over 260,000 soccer fans attending the series in the U.S.

The league also broadcasted the fixtures on NBC, but this summer’s calendar is already occupied by coverage of Copa America and the Olympic Games.

The Premier League had considered interchanging the series between the U.S. and Asia. However, a number of clubs haven’t been happy with the pitches in Asia and the weather conditions, including flash floods, have made it difficult to host the tournament.

Tottenham Hotspur are likely to be the biggest name club touring Asia. Spurs made it clear to the Premier League, however, that they would not be participating in a summer series.

Last summer marked the inaugural Premier League Summer Series in the U.S., featuring Chelsea, Brighton, Brentford, Newcastle, Fulham, and Aston Villa. The matches were held across Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando, New Jersey, and Maryland.

Would we have got invited this summer?

Good question. Last year's six invitees each finished between 4th and 12th which ensured everyone was pretty much certain of their league status by the time it was announced.

There were reports Leeds were dropped from the initial plan too and presumably that was because they didn't want to take a chance of them getting relegated and accidentally advertising the EFL (hahaha).

Based on the current league table could imagine us being replaced by West Ham or Wolves if there were a tournament this summer.

The marketing question would probably be, do you try and grow build on interest by showing the same teams as last time, or share the "opportunity" around. Do the NFL do a bit of both with London games?

Wonder if they would go to the same cities too or maybe the west coast instead in future. Sounds like we have over a year to find out.

guess I will have to sort out my own summer holiday now.

The club used to do a US trip each summer didn't they? Something to do with lifeline, maybe a free ticket was the top lifeline prize. Golfing in palm springs or something like that. How far we have come, etc.

Ditto. My son and I really enjoyed going to the 3 US games and travelling round that side of the US. I hope if they do it again and we’re involved they choose venues in the West.
