Usain Bolt

He may have a thread somewhere on here, so sorry mods if he has.

I have to say we've been so lucky to have been around to witness without doubt the greatest sprinter to have ever lived. Enjoy your retirement party boy!

Love or loathe him. He's a wonderful advert for his sport. Luckily we have Wayde Van Niekerk waiting in the wings to step into the spotlight.

Got tickets for a few evenings. Got the last day so hopefully will witness his swansong

Usain Bolt

The bio on the BBC the other day was very good. He's a down to earth sportsman. Great for athletics and it's a shame his time to end his career has come. Great to watch and there's no other like him.

Usain Bolt

Been fantastic to be around to witness UB, now someone else will get a chance.

Usain Bolt

He is to athletics what Ali was to boxing and Best to football.
They transcend their sport, make those who have little interest in it marvel at what a human being is capable of. A supreme sportsman, clean in what has become a grubby event. I doubt that anyone will better his achievements in sprinting, we are after all even now dealing in hundredths of a second.

Usain Bolt

With the retirement of Bolt and Prince Philip so close together, I think they should run one final race against each other on TV. They're missing a real moneyspinner otherwise.

Usain Bolt

I remember a moment, during the London Olympics, when (I think) he'd just won one of his medals and the BBC wanted to interview him whilst a medal ceremony going on and a national anthem was being played. The interviewer tried to get his attention and he acknowledged them but gestured that he was paying respect to whoever it was that was having their anthem played. As soon as they'd finished he turned around and began the interview. To me that showed the caliber of a true sportsman who had great respect for his fellow athletes. How many of the athletes with over-inflated egos would have shown such respect, I wonder?

I think Phil's more the endurance man, so Mo Farah...

How can anyone loathe him? He is a superstar, gentleman and Mr Charisma all wrapped up in one.

Unlike the awful Helen Skelton who continues to chat to her 2 guests rather than keep quiet and show us the ceremony while the anthems were being played at the Swimming last week

Exactly.

not to suggest for a second that there's anything untoward, but, simply how sad would it be if any dodgy story ever came out about him? i'm actually quite fearful of some mischief-maker tarnishing his reputation. but anyway, will stop worrying about nonsense..........

as you all say above: a fantastic guy, fantastic athlete. huge respect to him :sorted:

plus he has a soft spot for Czechia

I didn't see this...that's classy behaviour.

Don't remember that.

Well done him.
