Vincent Kompany

Vincent Kompany

Didn’t do too badly last year
True but even on today's showing he needs to change the way he plays . it was obvious from the first 5 minutes playing out from the back was going to put them in a lot of trouble

Vincent Kompany

Just watched his post match interview. What an intelligent, measured and considered man. He will be a top manager. (Not with Burnley, obviously).
Maybe he will. But he’s very naive if he thinks he can keep this Burnley side in the prem playing like this.

Vincent Kompany

Thought he looked very down, clearly has no plan B and can only see a long hard rest of the season ahead, if he lasts that long. Burnley had it too easy last season which didn’t prepare them for the PL.

Kompany.
Rooney.
Lampard.

Here’s their clown bike

Vincent Kompany

I’ve never understood the Kompany love in. His record in Belgium was nothing more than okay. Had a very good season with Burnley (who had been one of the favourites) and suddenly he’s the natural successor to Pep and being linked heavily with Spurs. Based seemingly on the fact he’s mates with Guadiola.

Plays a style totally unsuitable to the Premier league yet the media still see him has the chosen one.

Meanwhile TF continues to thrive.

He was a f***ing marvellous wonderkid on CM99-00 (or around that time) and his team are in a relegation battle with Luton. I wish him all the best.

Vincent Kompany

He talks a good game.

He needs to change plenty though. They’ve made so many individual defensive mistakes this season though. How many times did Wissa nick the ball off a defender?

Vincent Kompany

No pragmatism, and they’ll pay the price! He probably do well elsewhere with a better squad though!

Vincent Kompany

Had a look at their fans reaction, quite a few bemoaning the fact only about 4 of the players who started in the game that won them the championship played today. Up front it's all change.

From their performance, I'm not sure if they believe they will stay up.

Are they following their previous, and the (failed) Norwich model? Build a PL squad with their parachute payments?

Vincent Kompany

I liked the tactics of time wasting when you are losing it's a new take on the game.
Yep!!
Thought that too!!!
Assumed they were "happy" to be only 1-0 down to us, and were hoping to nick one late on.....all a bit bizarre though!!!!

Vincent Kompany

I thought Burnley lacked tall athletic players, especially compared to the likes of Everton and Palace, they didn't have any style of play... They look lost.
This is when a good manager changes the style of play, because what they're doing now, will only get them relegated.

Good because we tend to struggle against rose type of teams …

They constantly tried to play their way out from the back & use Cullen as their outlet. Our attacking press & midfield were simply too good on the day & stopped them at source. Like Foster- who is a decent prospect- quickly looked isolated & dejected up front. That is what we would have probably looked like if TF hadn't had the foresight to adapt our free flowing Championship style to a more pragmatic style in our first season back in the PL.
Having said that I like Kompany as a manager & Burnley as a club & hope they find a style to compete in this Division, I think we were very good yesterday rather than they were totally abject. We'll see as the season develops.

Vincent Kompany

Kompany seems alright as a bloke but his white t-shirt, jacket, baseball cap and trainers combo really irrates me.
He always strikes me as someone who been invited to a wedding but needs to steal a car from the station car park to get there – why else would you be wearing a TWOCer’s hat with a suit?

Vincent Kompany

Much of that squad he’s been part of building, a bit under radar imho is that they’ve spent £100m in the summer. Too many changes from the league winning squad, some because of too many loans, but also some poor looking buys since

Vincent Kompany

really irritates you?
It’s the same look as all the continentals……. standard issue for the young (although they all are now!) euro coach

Vincent Kompany

One of his staff should have warned him that someone had drawn a biro beard on him while he was sleeping on the coach.

Vincent Kompany

Needs the presence of the thinking man's Craig Bellamy (Brian Riemer for example) to pull him out of his current Citeh coaching orbit.

Not that it would've happened with us but Brian would've been in TF's ear given the way the game unfolded y'day.

One thing I understand about our internal club culture is that a viewpoint that is honestly and clearly made is listened to.....not sure if that is the case up at Burnley atm.

Vincent Kompany

I was baffled at the keeper staying on when he had a niggle - why risk making it worse in that situation?

Vincent Kompany

VK doesn't seem to have a plan B. Similar to us and Norwich they out footballed most teams in the Championship. But thankfully Thomas Frank realised we had to be more pragmatic in the Premier League. Unless VK sorts out his defence they will do a Norwich and go straight back down. Having spent £100M in transfers this season not sure they will have the financial bandwidth to bounce straight back up if relegated.

Vincent Kompany

The problem with Kompany is that he thinks he can simply replicate Manchester City at Burnley. Or before at Anderlecht. Do those clubs have infinite funding from the UAE? Didn’t it take Manchester City like 15 years to be where they are now? Just because he was an important player for Manchester City (if he wasn’t injured) doesn’t mean he can simply copy his experiences as a player to his job as a coach now. There are so many factors that make a club successful, from the board, to the ownership, to the squad. Kompany seems to think good football was the only thing that made Manchester City win titles. It happened at Anderlecht, they kept him way too long, and the exact same thing is happening at Burnley. I gotta give it to him, he knows how to make people believe in his ideas, but he literally doesn’t know how to adapt when things don’t go how he expected

TF has had an avalanche of praise for about 4-5 years now.

In fairness to Kompany changed Burnley style of play after nearly a decade of Negative football under the previous management and he had to rebuild the side completely losing both Tarky and Mee on a free. Burnley were a joy to watch last season and stormed that league. However, unless they change and adapt their style they will be relegated. They honestly were the worst side I have seen in the PL since we have been back - but we were also good. Kompany if anything has been naive to think their style can win games in this league.

Vincent Kompany

Last time they got relegated the had Mee and Tarkowski at CB who are a considerable upgrade on their current pairing - if they continue to make basic defensive errors they don't appear to have the firepower to score more than the opposition so I can see it being a long season unless he changes their approach to be more solid and sacrifice the possession football that he seems to favour. I thought they would be a difficult test for us but in truth 3-0 flattered them and it could have been 5 or 6 in reality.

And there is the problem imo, they need to play ugly if they have any hope of avoiding the drop. Their players can play an attractive style in the championship which as you say helped them to storm the league but they are not good enough to do the same in the Premier league. I can see Kompany getting the sack before he changes their style of play, naive as you say.

Vincent Kompany

I liked what he did at Burnley a lot last season, massive change in style and walked that league which was impressive...but he just hasn't adapted to this division at all. Some Managers style fits teams who are dominant in the games they play, and maybe that's Kompany's problem. He hasn't been able to adapt from being the best team in a division to one of the worst.

If he walks into relegation with Burnley then his suiters aren't going to come knocking. He has to adapt what they're doing or they're gone.

So more like Norwich and Fulham: get promoted, then bin the guys that got you there. We built a squad that was ready for the PL and didn’t go on a spending spree.

There’s no reason why you can’t aim to play an attractive style of football at this level but you absolutely have to do that alongside some form of defensive shape and with work rate and intensity off the ball. You also need to be able to switch things up when it’s not working.

Burnley did none of that. You can’t allow players at this level to play without pressure or they’ll absolutely kill you. You don’t get to play at this level without a lot of ability. Look at Onyeka on sat. Pulled out his best performance for a long time as he was just able to play his game.

Kompany didn’t seem to have done his homework on us either, we were allowed to play out from the back without any great pressure and our two ‘makeshift’ full backs had a lovely day!! Great from our point of view but criminal from a Burnley perspective and raises big questions about VK as a manager/head coach.
