Today he mentioned that talking about January is pointless and he's sick of it and how everybody should be positive about the rest if the season. He then spent a whole column on his version of the truth.

Not sure that was a good use of his energy to be honest.
On a completely unrelated note did I see Harlee Dean playing up front today?


Here are the salient bits

Immediately following the [Sheffield Wednesday] game I was again questioned about the depth of the squad and whether more should have been done in January when the opportunity presented itself.

This is clearly a subject that raises much debate and opinion, but very often the real facts appear to be diluted and negativity arises at a time when we all need to pull together at such a vital stage of the season.

Let me once and for all clarify the real details, which I hope will put an end to some of the rumours and counter rumours that seem to have surfaced in recent weeks.

Did we target key players for specific positions?

Yes, we looked closely at both domestic and overseas options that we all felt would add quality and depth to an already strong squad.

Were we close to securing any of the proposed targets?

Yes, we came very close to completing one or two players, but the deals fell through for a variety of reasons.

Such reasons included demands that did not represent good value for the club, or demands from loaning clubs that specific individuals must be automatic starting players.

Did we turn down high quality players that were apparently offered to us and who would have impacted the team?

Absolutely not and to say otherwise is indeed both completely false and in truth malicious.

He is unfortunately coming across as a bit stubborn now, also refusing to change anything about how we play despite it costing us time and time again.

Very muffled, half hearted attempt heard after our first goal. That's all I could hear in the paddock. The paddock quickly followed with 1 Matthew Benham but that didn't really take off either.

I really hope the end of season does not degenerate into an anti MW tirade. It is not necessary or warranted. He is going. We have to hope his successor is prepared to be as bold with his playing style to build on what has been the best season I have had in 40 of following the Bees. Success is not guaranteed whoever we get and however much we spend. I will start next season as nervous as I was this year because we are in among some big hitters who could buy us out many times over and nothing is guaranteed.

You say he gave his version of the truth, in other words you are calling him a liar and "his version of the truth" a pack of lies.
I know there have been claims on this site of what happened or maybe happened but if you know the truth and know that Warburton is telling lies then you should be open about that and give Warburton the right of reply.

I am sure if you asked 6,000 bees fans how this season has been then you will get many "versions of the truth" - the "truth" is not a black and white concept. "His version of the truth" is not necessarily "a pack of lies"; IMHO he has presented truthful statements but edited to omit the whole truth. He has always been good at saying little but getting his point of view across and this seems no different.

Anyway, he's history and we need to move on.

He wants his version of the truth out there to secure his next job. He doesn't want anything to "lower his stock", least of all question marks over how we ended up not signing anyone of significance in Jan.

Whatever anyone says on here, Warbs has been a breath of fresh air for us and has provided us with the best football ever, and a fantastic springboard from which to move forward. I have nothing but the utmost respect for him, and the dignity with which he has conducted himself. Whatever the shortcomings of someone who has been in management for less than two years, I wouldn't dream of slagging him off on here. On the contrary, promotion or not, he leaves with my gratitude and complete respect.

I read into his notes as someone who wanted to get the record straight before he leaves about potential January signings which fell through. It seemed that sensible, level headed decisions were made not to sign certain players for genuine reasons such as...

1. Demands did not represent good value for the club
2. Loan club demanding that players must get an automatic start

As its our first season as well in the Championship, I don't think it would make business sense that we pay over the odds in the January window for such players. Do that and other players get the hump and want similar terms and the wage bill starts spiralling excessively upwards. Best to keep control of the wage bill especially with a new stadium to pay for and stabilise in the Championship.

Warbs is doing a brilliant job for the club, but so is MB and both deserve our respect and support for some breathtaking football and an exciting future at Brentford. With respect to the chanting of Warbs name on the ER, that was why I was one of those chanting.

I'd venture to suggest most, if not all, clubs now agree 'relegation clauses' in player's contracts, so in that event, wages are reduced appropriately.

From listening in on some Fulham fans on the way to their game whilst i was on my way to work................... They seem to think he will be at QPR next year with Ramsey as his assistant. They went on to say MW knows Ramsey and will do well down there. They then went to talk about our set up and how well we were doing. Plus on of their newphews is in our youth set up and has nothing but praise for the way in which things are run....... Turns out the lad left Chelsea to join us.

All speculation i know but they were certain on him moving down the road.

So, yes, I too agree: I have never really liked MW either; I doubt he played any real part in our promotion last season; he was lucky to be our manager at a time when we challenged from beginning to end for the play offs in our first full season in the second tier for 20 years; and I will really not miss the dire, negative football he has instructed the team to play!
