Water Polo...

I must admit, I've never watched it but I really don't like it and think all poloists should not be allowed to ruin the grass.

Water Polo...

Brilliant sport, fouling also goes on below the water line that can be very painful ? I played for Bicester at the time. You had to be very fast and very fit to compete.

Water Polo...

Late last night I drove round my local area and NOT ONE pub was showing any water polo. There wasn’t a single person walking around the streets in a water polo kit, nor was there a single mention of water polo on the back page of The Daily Mail this morning. What a rip off! Why oh why do they try to force us to embrace a sport nobody is interested in?!

That’s nothing. I once paid £35 for a month of the Polo channel on Sky hoping to see coverage of both the horse back and water edition and all I got was 30 days of some bloke eating mints.

To be fair in the summer round here it’s not completely uncommon to see groups of lads in water polo kit as their Otley Run costume.

Water Polo...

This sport is clearly a sexist one as it is an anagram of "Lower a Top". Why oh why do people shove sexual content onto us?

Water Polo...

I find the quality so lacking compared to proper polo (much slower for one thing) and the gratuitous use of real polo commentators by woke TV channels needs to stop.

I played National League water polo for 17 years. A completely sh*t game to watch but a brilliant game to play. Imagine rugby league physicality but with the referees unable to see the fouls (as they all happen under the water). Give it a try. You'll love it!

National League, wow!! That’s tough. Agree with the underwater fouls as I mentioned on my post. I used to get out of the pool with my voice a few decibels higher at times ??

Water Polo...

I’ve checked out the BBC page on it, and it’s nowhere near diverse enough.

Water Polo...

It’s better with hurdles??

Back in the early 80’s on a lads holiday in Lloret de Mar in a huge hotel complex the holiday reps organised twice weekly swimming pool competitions between English and German holiday makers.
Over the course of two weeks we couldn’t find anyone who could beat the Germans in the swimming and the water volleyball involved too many kids and females to be really worthwhile.
However the water polo was superb and like war in the water, incredibly competitive and aggressive while great exercise and more tiring than I could have imagined. The Germans all wore their swimming caps and took it far too seriously whereas we basically just used it as an excuse to work out our aggression. In football you hit a tackle late and it’s a clear foul, in this you can time it so you smash into the oppo after the ball has gone and it gets missed!
Lots of claret was shed and lots of swear words in German learned that fortnight but a cracking sport

Lads holiday in Lloret de Mar - shudders. I did a couple in the 70's. Think I'm just about over them now.

Best days of my life, Magaluf x 4 times, Tenerife, Lloret de Mar, Corfu, Marbella, Ibiza and Ayia Napa were our lads holidays throughout the 80’s.

Water Polo...

Played water polo in the Pilbarra in North-West of Western Australia during the 1970's. Most of the players played the Bone-Headed game of Aussie Rules during the winter months, and polo as a way to keep themselves fit during the summer. I played for 4 years and had more fights then than during the rest of my life. This was mainly due to the nasty barstuards that grabbed my nuts when I was leaping upwards for the ball, and me almost leaving them behind (my nuts that is). One week we were playing the enforcers (a team of highway police stationed in Karratha) and I had a real set-to with one of them. The following night I was driving home, after a few drinks on pay-night, When a cop pulled me up - he stuck his head, black eyes, broken nose an' all, through the window and I thought oh f--k!! - it's him!!

Water Polo...

I play twice a week in Manchester. Completely agree that it's awful to watch but fun to play. I'm a goalkeeper, so completely bonkers, but somehow I've never got injured by another player. Been abroad to play twice and always had a blast. Would recommend it to anyone who is a decent swimmer and likes team sports!

Water Polo...

Just out of interest, does everyone have to evacuate the pool these days once there's blood in the water? :fishing:
