It was a foul, but I would be disappointed if any of our centre-backs were so easily brushed aside.

Possibly the worst piece of goalkeeping ever seen. Stephen Hawking could have saved that.

I wouldn't have given a foul..

Defender was too weak and Rooney stood his ground... Great goal, and in my opinion was better than Beckhams. Rooney not only had to outmuscle the defender, but he didn't even look up when he struck it on the half volley. Beckham had time to look up, and aim his shot - albeit from a slightly longer distance..

it was, however, shoddy - the ball BOUNCED in the MIDDLE of the goal. ok he may have been off his line, dazed, confused, foreign and possibly high - but still, it was a poor effort

as Billy said, the defender was pathetic, and fair play, Rooney was using the tricks of the trade, timed his nudge well. It was a foul, it wasn't super-obvious.

it wasn't a half-volley either!

yep, Beckham's was against a beaten team in the last minute... so he did get a bit more time.

Folan's and Evans' goals were much better.

Not sure why Rooney's goal is being discussed with such vigour when Tettey's on the same day has to be one of the best ever in the history of football :fishing: and yet it has hardly received a mention.

I think he's been proving that for a while. £200k a week for blaming other members of his team for his inability to finish. Joey Barton said in his interview with Sir Clive Woodwood that Rooney is not world class as he has stopped working on his game and lacks drive. Mentioned his poor lifestyle choices as a professional (smoking etc) and said that's the difference between him and the likes of Messi and Ronaldo. Haven't been a massive Barton fan but it was interesting to hear his thoughts.

Yep couldn't believe he was having a go at Welbeck …. when Rooney first came on the scene he really was a great talent but for me just hasn't doesn't it for many a season now. United are mugs for twice offering a bumper contract.

For half a season as an 17 year old I think he looked like he might be a superstar but he peaked in 2004 Euros and all downhill since then.
Scores goals in meaningless games and goes AWOL when big game players are needed. Ridiculous choice for Captain after his outburst in South Africa.
He's trailer trash made good and can't believe some still making a case for him as World class, smell the coffee chaps he's not even England class.

Have to disagree. Anybody that scores 20+ goals a season in the premier league with at least 10 assists is top draw in my view.

Can go missing for England but hey, who ****ing doesn't in that squad.

For England and man utd he is around a goal every other game.

On the other hand, he seems to be ******

At one point Rooney was better than Ronaldo when they were at Man United, now Rooney is so far behind it's staggering really.

There's probably an argument that he shouldn't be in the starting 11 for either side as well.

This programme is quite sad as it makes you realise just how far he has fallen as a player. He really was outstanding in his younger days

But some can never just be happy to have a "Class" player playing in our league and for our country.

Would fit into any of the top teams in the world. The problem is i think hes too adaptable. Hasnt played as an out and out striker for Utd since the Ronaldo days. It shows how poor Utd are that they need him to play CM. Play him on the shoulder and in the box and he will score goals and has proved he can do.

The worst thing about England fans and fans of teams in this country is that we cant support and love our top players...................... We always look to knock them down and find fault.

Problem with us is our young talent are always seen as the next "pele" or next "gazza". No they are not!!! Will happen to the next generation, Sterling, Barkley etc. We need to accept them for the players they are. Until we do that they will never win anything because they are placed under so much pressure.
