All you people that think Dickson would be better than Poole at left wing are just ignoring the stats. It would take dickson at least 4 seasons to match poole's goal tally for this season. The last thing we need is less goals in this team.
You're conveniently ignoring the fact that when Dickson turned up and whenever he's been put out on the left wing he's been able to get forward, beat defenders time and again with the occasional little trick and get the ball in the box. If 30 of his crosses get converted into goals, I don't give a sh*t if he doesn't score a single one all season. You can count the number of times Poole's got down the left, beat his man and crossed the ball on the fingers of one hand after a particularly unlucky day in woodwork class.
At the moment, he's stuck in defence out of necessity with Poole in front of him because:
1) Poole can't defend but is at least naturally left-footed so it's got to be better than putting someone right footed out there,
2) There were about 2 matches after we signed him where Dickson and Poole played a really effective overlap and covered each other which Poole seems to have forgotten about completely,
and
3) Rather Dickson than Charles.
Might be just me but I constantly pick up a negative vibe between the two of them on the pitch. Whether this is because Poole (rightly!) views Dickson as a threat for the LW position, I don't know. Maybe it's because at 26 Poole thinks he should be getting somewhere better than he is, but we obviously had to wave a fair bit of cash at Dickson to persuade him that this was the place to be and maybe that plays on Poole a bit. Which goes back to my previous point about locking them in a room until they sort it out.
What you have got right though is that Dickson hasn't shown this season that he can shoot. He's a playmaker, but not really a goalscorer. If he cuts inside, he seems to get a nose bleed about 25 yards out.
Point is, in the close season we do need at least one more striker with a good record (I'll point out Mark Nwokeji again until someone in L1 picks him up and we all have a moan about missing out), with a good player (Dickson) on the left wing to rain those crosses in but with enough legs to get back and cover his defender.
I don't have a severe dislike of him like some people around here, but perhaps Poole should be dropped in order to spur him to challenge for his place again. He has shown flashes of good play but has steadily declined and maybe he's becoming a bit complacent.
