What if...

As excited as everybody is about the prospect of a move to Lionel Road. What then?, what is the highest we can achieve with a 23,000 capacity. Is there still the scope to expand if we become the Man U of the south (oh no thats Fulscum). I know compared to where we are now things are looking up but what if?

Well Griffingreen, I dont know if things are looking up , to be honest with you. As regards Lionel rd, (IF it ever happens) We must accept that we will never grace the premiershit, but we could be a good division one club.
What does worry me big time, is that we cant afford to keep our best players. My real worry is that if we get relegated, I cant see a way back ie smaller crowds, and wages to go with it. We then wont be able to attract any decent players. I am so sorry to sound so negative, but after months of trying to be positive. We cant keep the players that we should keep, it makes me wonder if it's worth going anymore.

Also now, there is talk about trying to develop Griffin Park. If thats the case it tells me that Lionel rd will never happen. I must apologize if this post is pissing people off, but after reading so many negative posts these last few weeks I think it has now got to me.

For gods sake the sun is shining the club is alive (just)

How the hell do you think we felt in 1967 the club was sold we were finished at the end of the season and Rangers would own and be playing at GP.
We had 14 pros no reserve side and no juniors we were god nows what in debt, we did not have Lionel rd to boost us in view let alone good young players coming through we had nothing except Frank Blunstone who worked miricles we won through yes we lost a lot of support .

We are here we have a good youth scheme starting to produce good youngsters, ok we have lost Row(who) no loss probably Hunt very sorry even though he was apparently offered a 20% rise whatever that was, but indications are it could bring 100K+ I am surprised (and pleased) that Smith is still with us, but will proably go and fullerton going again no loss that leaves if Vine returns 80% of last years team.

What if...

Lionel Road is vital. It is often hard to read the smoke signals emerging from Bees United HQ, which tends to allow people to swing between hope and despair. The only people who can really tell you how close we are to sustainability are the guys involved in negotiating for the Lionel Road stadium....

.......and Luton, Oldham, Barnsley, Bradford and probably many others that have not yet come out of the woodwork including I suspect Fulham and QPR.

These are watershed times for football and as every week goes by we edge nearer safety because we woke up to reality earlier than most.

If Lionel Rd comes off there is absolutely no reason we cannot rise again to the top flight IMHO.

Barnsley, Bradford & Oldham downfall were due to paying premiership wages and then falling out of the Prem.

23K all seater would be fantastic if it ever happens, but I have my doubts. Reading and Bolton have both done well and increased their crowds tho.

Sometimes you have to take a step backwards to go forward and I refuse to believe that we will never be a good side again, thats what keeps me going, the thought of one day....

Being one of a handfull of posters who actually saw the Bees in the top flight it is my aim in life now to see them back again in the premiership before I pop my clogs.Ever the optimist,you have to be after supporting them for 60 years,I think that we are moving in the right direction and truly hope that Lionel Road happens. :nono:

Well said Beebop, I too am an optimist when it comes to BFC....we have to believe, we have to keep the faith otherwise it never will happen.

Brentford in the Premiership is just a dream right now but....

:nono: Never say never!

Oh and Lionel Road will happen, it's BFC's destiny!!!;) :yes:

I think that you have to sit tight in these rough times...

as a club we have atleast forseen the problem of escalting wages well before others and this has given us more of a chance of coming through the other side of this difficult period!

We have to make difficult decisions like hunt and rowlands and in a couple of seasons we will be still alive ulike some around us.

Lionel Road and a share with another major sporting club are essential and we must all work hard to make this happen!

Any ideas people have must be communicated and we must work hard to make sure that we get this new stadium!

Agree it would have to be shared so that means Rugby League, Rugby Union or QPR. Anyone know who are the richest: League or Union clubs? I would have thought a Rugby Union side in a good ground in West London - near middle class areas of Surrey as well would have massive potential.

I would suggest that offering London Wasps a stable home would be beneficial for both parties! They have a big fan base but are currently getting messed around by QPha and this is not helping attendences!

Last season they played at loftus road as they were bought by ex QPR chairman some years ago, however the last season they were forced out when Fulham moved in.

They want to force Fulham out next year because playing at Wycombe's ground this season had huge implications on attendences.

They also won the premiership this season and have a few of Englands more recognisable international players in their ranks - would love a purpose built stadium in association with us I would imagine!

And with League now reverted to summer we could probably keep the broncos on board too...especially as any special requirements needed by them would be needed by Wasps too!!

3 problems solved with one stadium...win, win, win!
