We all know that the heady days of signing players is well and truly over but it is interesting to note that Scunthorpe are trying to offload striker Guy Ipuoa - remember him, and the very skilful (Londoner) Lee Hodges before the transfer deadline as they will both be Bosman frees in June.

Nothing will come of this of course but they would both improve our squad dramatically.

For trainspotters amongst you, Kevin Rapley scored twice for Cheltenham Reserves v Barnet this week and Nevin Saroya played for Brighton Reserves v Bristol City

With respect to Ipoua, hasn't he already failed in his attempt to bag loads of goals at the second division level. I might be wrong, but I thought he'd scored loads for Scunthorpe in the 3rd (98/99), scored about 10 in the 2nd (99/00) and is currently doing well again in the 3rd. What do these statistics imply? Probably no better than Owusu.

He scored 9 goals last year in about half a season but looked the business. Agreed he has only scored regularly this season at a lower level but at 25 I would bank on him improving and thriving in our league.

Hodges is small but sheer class and left footed

I know some people don't like it, but we've yet to replace Kevin Rapley. Still can't belive that he wasn't given more of a chance. If in doubt just watch the first few minutes of the championship video. For those of you who say he hasn't done anything since, just wait, I'm sure he'll still do well.

Never seen Ipoua play, so can't comment. Wasn't Hodges at Southend in our Div 3 season? If it is the same one (ex West Ham I think) he would be a definite asset. Even though we won 4-1 at Roots Hall that season, I remember that he was one of the best players on the pitch, despite the fact that the rest of his team were complete pants.

Best player on the pitch Saturday was Bournemouth`s striker & captain, Steve Fletcher . Class act at this level, doesnt score too many goals but he`s a quality target man....if he was at GP with Partridge and Owusu playing off him we`d be in the top 6 without a doubt IMHO.

Sorry I dont buy all this "maturing as a team" malarkey. Its a football team not a fine wine. Fact is our strikers can't hit a cows arse with a barn door. Thats not likely to change much if the team doesnt change. However we're not going to get a new striker so we'll have to make do I suppose.

Thats probably true (must be fecking difficult to carry the barn door!)but I thought the issue was that they didn't score many goals!
