World Cup - Warm up!

... slowly approaching, excitement growing!!

Let's not dwell too much about the "where" - and keep the discussion (and excitement!) clean!

Who are the favourites? Who do you support?

I'll start - am red/white through and through .. and in a medium group, I hope that my fellow Danes will progress through the group - and maybe reach the quarter finals ..

Who are the team(s) that will surprise, disappoint - claim the trophy?!

I don't think Argentina/Brazil will win it .. what you lot think?! - will the dates impact the Premier League season?

World Cup - Warm up!

England is who i support.

zero impact on the premier league . All players will play in World Cup games and premier league games on the same day ;)

Just hope there will be "proper" World Cup atmosphere - and not too many "paid" fake spectators in the crowds!

I can’t see it mate. Who can really afford the prices being bandied around ? Not “proper” football fans in the main. Probably end up all being corporate or bussed in locals

I’ll follow England but this really is tainted World Cup. Not bothered in the slightest.

Exactly - which is a great shame ..

Understand that the hosting is "moved around" across the world .. but a couple of things annoy me.

Give it to countries with proper passion for the sport, giving the host country highest seeding .. I understand it is better for the hosting country if they're "helped" getting further .. but Qatar - really - they'll struggle to get through in any group! ;)

Have they nationalised a lot of players? I remember when they hosted the handball world cup (or took part in the Olympics) - that they tried to nationalise a lot of star players..

Reckon Toney will get in to the England squad? - I think they could do with his "warrior" style .. would much prefer a player like him over e.g. Kane/Sterling (loathe them!) .. and what about Maguire - will he still captain your side?

England has so many good players - but I think weeding out some of the "big" names may be advantageous - however it could also be dangerous! - if an "experiment" like that failed .. Cannot deny quality (Kane/Sterling) - but as a Dane (and still somewhat bitter after the Euros) .. I am sure you can find better :p

Feel the same - about Denmark.

They really need to consider how they host these events; for credibility - and focus on what should matter!

I fully support it going round the world and see no reason why it has to be played in our summer. Yes it is when most of the bigger leagues are off but that shouldn't mean they can dictate when it is. Sadly this is irrelevant in this case as its farcical that Qatar has the world cup and ignoring the corrupt way they got the tournament, the real tragedy is the slave like conditions in which they treated workers and the fact that numerous people sadly lost their lives. The city for the final yes the city didn't even exist when they bid for the world cup.

I don't think Toney will make it and if he does it will be because he has scored about 15 goals by November. So hopefully he does!

Kane will be captain and Maguire may not even make the squad if he isn't playing. Southgate is a lot more willing to treat players in this way then previous incumbents.

My family on my mum side is Danish. So I will be supporting Denmark as my 2nd team as I always have done. The Brentford part is a real bonus.

World Cup - Warm up!

I'll support England, follow Denmark (or any Brentford player, whatever nation) but almost certainly watch just about all the France games as they'll be wall-to-wall on TV where I'll be!

World Cup - Warm up!

Being born in Wales I'll obviously be hoping that they do reasonably well (getting out of the group stage would be an achievment). Wales can't win it, so as always I hope that England give it a good shot. For obvious reasons I'll be keeping an eye on Denmark hoping that they have a decent run.
As for Qatar I have the same feelings as most. By all means spread the competition around the world, but there are far more desrving countries than Qatar to host the finals.

World Cup - Warm up!

I will not be watching any of the games and will try to avoid reading anything about the WC in the newspapers or on the Internet.

I think it is disgraceful that the event is being held in Qatar in view of the way the it was won and the appalling breach of human rights during the construction of the grounds/hotels.

Kind of hope I have the will-power to do the same!

World Cup - Warm up!

I’ll support England, then Germany - due to family, then Denmark because of the Bees links. Then anyone who has any Brentford player.
I want to not watch it but quite sure as we near the games I’ll find it too hard not to.

World Cup - Warm up!

This is the first time that I'm really not bothered about the WC, I'll watch England and hope we do well. FIFA have flogged the tournament off to the highest bidder, and have basically waved two fingers up to all Football supporters!

I’ll watch I’m sure, but I don’t have enthusiasm for it and certainly would never pay to go to Qatar to watch it, but I’m sure they won’t miss my money.

I hate everything about this World Cup, what a shame.

World Cup - Warm up!

Will support England, and hope Denmark do well too, due to Bees close connection.
Will also support every team Wales play, and hope they go home ASAP.
:sueme:
?

World Cup - Warm up!

A massive inconvenience for us as we shut down our league to accommodate a tournament that should have been played not only in another country, but in the summer months as per the application.

World Cup - Warm up!

Will watch England games and moan about selection and performances!!!

Can’t work up a great deal of enthusiasm and bet there won’t be the same levels of enjoyment and sportsmanship that was evident in the Womens Euros

World Cup - Warm up!

Looking forward to it, despite the issues around it. Will miss the bees for a few weeks but that's life. Gonna be weird going down the pub for big games in winter, rather than summer - had some great days in the big beer gardens here. But I'm sure we'll make it work :)

World Cup - Warm up!

I think when mid November comes, we will all be more up for it.

like others made it very easy to plan my couple of weeks of pre Xmas sunshine.

World Cup - Warm up!

I'll be following Canada. Win or lose they have played some good football to get to the finals. Then it's England, if I can stay awake during the match.

FIFA has to sort out the host country debacle, probably not in my life time but I can hope.

World Cup - Warm up!

Not really bothered about the national team anymore…. I find it difficult supporting Jordan Pickford when only a few months ago, he was deliberately trying to injure Ivan Toney and then just this week, he was trying to cheat us out of a potential victory.

I might use the time to tick off a few of the lower league grounds I’ve not been to.

World Cup - Warm up!

I would say less than a.5% chance of Henry or Toney being in the squad.

Which is almost certainly a good thing for us this season in the Premier League...

World Cup - Warm up!

Used to be quite excited by the WC, figuring out groups and all that. I don’t even know how many nations are in this farce. 48 I think but don’t even care enough to check.

They managed to ruin a good thing. ‘Shame’ is right.

Snap. Let’s save petrol!

I'll be following all our Brentford lads. Really hope Iran beat usa again. I simply won't support ;Maguire, Shaw, Pickford, Walker etc.

Do you want Ghoddos’ Iran to beat England, then?

I love the World Cup and will watch as many matches as I can. Any nation, I’m not bothered.

Obviously I want England to prevail. I live in hope!

If Iran play better than our, motley, entitled, bunch of uglies, then yes. (obviously)

Strange how the patriotism displayed during the summer has suddenly disappeared:unsure:

My dilemma is .. coming from (a relatively) small country .. not necessarily qualifying for all WCs .. it's a big(ish) thing..

.. we had probably our strongest run in qualification ever .. but also in a reasonably "weak" group (sorry, if any Scottish members - but you got us!)

However - I am leaning towards total ignorance, but for that to have an impact .. MANY need to back it.

.. I remember '92 .. and the national electricity when we won the Euros .. just hope our next magical moment doesn't happen this year!

...It'll return - don't worry!

If worried - send in your women, they might be able to bring it home :D

(Edit: Hopefully within boundaries of "banter" - but thoroughly enjoyed the Women's Euros .. despite Denmark being shockingly poor)

Just 32 this time, 48 is the next one in North America, i think...

In time, every country in the world will take part - but only the 8 seeded big nations can qualify from the group stages.. ;)

Whateves, as my daughter might say. Farce, the whole thing

(I'll probably really care once it rolls around though... :) )

Seeing that Visit Qatar advert with Beckham ..

.. my mind is made up, the next WC is in 2026.

Nothing about this tournament feels right - other than the teams qualifying.. sigh.
