Wycombe Match reports

I'd just like to say thank you for a great game of Football today.

Was the most enjoyable afternoon of Football this season.
I'm a proud Wycombe fan tonight due to my teams performance.

We've been off form, we don't score, we go away play for 0-0 and then of we go behind and don't have a plan B.
But today we attacked you.

1st half you had the better of it but you'd expect that being the home team.
2nd half until the moment of madness from Tommy Doherty we looked good for 3 points. Although he wouldn't have been sent off if the ref spotted the blantant foul on Doherty a few seconds earlier.

The ref was dreadful, didn't see Harrold's apparent elbow but I can't believe Harrold has committed the 5th most fouls in League 2 - he is fouled more often than not and gets nothing. But gave you free-kicks for eveything and us yellow cards for everything when you did just as much and got nothing.

But a great crowd, a thoroughly enjoyable game and they away support was phenomenal.
I can't talk because at home our support is dreadful, but your support was shocking unless you were winning.
I just may not have heard you due to the noise of our fans.

Your two fans who were sent out where unbelievably funny.

Good luck for rest of season and hopefully see you next year as we join you in League 1.

Pretty much most of what you say is complete bollox.

I hope you make it too- I live nearer to Wycombe than Brentford, but have been a bees fan for over 50 years, I actually took a WW fan with me today.
I hope we both go up a match like that next season if both clubs were doing well would be a sellout!

Was i at the same game as you???
atmosphere generated by our fans today was much better than yours!
Pre kick off we were buzzing! not a peep from you and throughout the game think u sang like 3 times after yours goal!

Wycombe Match reports

Great game today, i think a draw was a fair result.
The wycombe fans were great, as we were too, made a fantastic atmosphere, best of the season. akinde looked a handful, and we did well to restrict him to two goals. Typical that ex bee Mous grabbed a goal, why do they always score against us?? Just as well he went off at half time. HUnt was MOM imo, and glad to see he got a goal.
Looking forward to tuesday night
Stinger come on you bees :)

This "our fans were better than yours" stuff is so tedious. We sit near the former hate corner and the WW fans were very noisy for most of the game - being so far from the Ealing Road we can't hear our choir, and there were a few times when three sides of GP went for it. I bet if you'd been in the Wendy House all you would have heard were the Wycombe chants and ditto in the ER. So many neutrals round us its hard to get the crowd going (our possee tried very hard).

All in all, both sets of fans did a good job and can be proud of the fare served up today. Even had a few mentions on 606. Long live real football.:)

Wycombe Match reports

Charlie had to go for that header but if he hadn't we'd have been 3-1 up as Jordan would surely have scored , 30 secs later it's 2-2. Fine margins and all that but wasn't that the defining moment along with the next twist being Beardo leaving early. He is a horrible little **** and all that but was it really a straight red? Harrold's looked more of a sending off IMO but who cares?;)
I saw us play badly at Rotherham, missed us play badly v Barnet but saw us not quite right today, are we tired or scared or even both, I know I am.
Was Dickson injured, he came out to sit on the bench for the 2nd half about 10 minutes in with the physio, he looked angry and upset. Now if he was injured then surely he wouldn't have to be marched to the bench, I presume he didn't like being told he was being subbed and being advised that showing his face and being nice was the way forward.

Well said, we sit in Braemar Rd and switch ends depending on which way we are kicking (not today), you can't hear ER in the Paddock and the away fans can't be heard up the other end. It's simple really, neither fans can hear one another.

But today we attacked you.
Yes - physically - our entire back 4 had to have treatment at some point during the game - I've never seen so many players stay down - leading to what is a world record of drop-balls!

until the moment of madness from Tommy Doherty we looked good for 3 points - REALLY??? You must have had the sun in your eyes in the 2nd half then.

Although he wouldn't have been sent off if the ref spotted the blantant foul on Doherty a few seconds earlier - like he didn't spot the assualt by Harrold in the first half then?

But gave you free-kicks for eveything and us yellow cards for everything when you did just as much and got nothing - check the match stats for cards issued do-nut

But a great crowd, a thoroughly enjoyable game and they away support was phenomenal - in numbers yes and occasional burst (following a goal)
I can't talk because at home our support is dreadful, but your support was shocking unless you were winning - did you not get into the ground until after the game???
I just may not have heard you due to the noise of our fans - or your head being stuck up your.........

Your two fans who were sent out where unbelievably funny - but not as funny as you

Wycombe Match reports

Thought Hunt was fantastic today, offered a lot more variety than Kev, like to see a fully fit Smith paired with Hunt in center midfield. A draw today was not to bad with the other results. I think if we could win 4 of our last 8 games then the aspiring teams below us (with the exception of Wycombe) will have to win 7 of their last 8 to catch us up. Not a bad position to be in.

Wycombe Match reports

Hunt's goal, if it had gone wide would it have been a penalty for the pull back of Phillips as he was going to probably head home unchallenged and would it have been a red card?

fans

What peop have said above is true.

Sets of supporters behind goal can't hear the others.

But the fans sat in the stand with the tunnel were dreadful jumped up if you scored and said haha then sat down with their legs crossed and finger on mouth.
Except the 2 dicks who were sent out, shame though because they were causing lots of entertainment

We sang out hearts out.

Was a great game and probably a fair result.

He-heh! You what? Wycombe fans are always subdued, but that's the quietest 1600-odd people I've ever heard. Only got going when you thought you might actually nick something. Your second goal should not have been given but then, fair enough, we did labour a bit in the second half. We're gonna go up, you may not. That's it.

Comments from Andy S and Taylor really sum it up.
I saw a great game at 'league 1' level and surely both teams will be there at the end of the season.
GP is a different place when almost full really great atmosphere.
Akinde as stated had a great game and was the difference where as we had a good team they had some good individuals.

Sitting half way down New Road, there was a lot of noise from both ends. The Wycombe fans did ok and made a fair bit of noise as did our boys in Ealing Road.

There was less noise from the New Road than in other big matches, eg Bury. I think this may have been as people were unable to sit in their normal areas due to the sheer size of the crowd but we did not get going in NR.

Re the match. Very tense. Very exciting. It seemed to me when we were in front I thought we could have killed them off, Likewise when they were in front in the 2nd half could not see us scoring until the sending off.

Liked Peter Taylors comments, seemd fair and reasonable. Have to say their centre forward Akinde looked a different class to the rest of the players on show. Whats he doing at Wycombe?

I'm not one for looking ahead at the fixtures of other sides but hearing they are playing Rochdale next week is a nice touch.

I normally sit in E block and stood on Ealing Road today - and that's basically exactly right...

Wycombe Match reports

, Wood excellent (and what a find), MOM Bennett again, !!!

Absolutely spot on.

Bennett is proving why he has always had championship aspirations and and for wood, he just gets better and better. He runs his bllx off, never gives up and when he runs at the last man you always feel he is going to stick a decent ball in the box.

We have 6-7 players in our team who will one day be too big for brentford, you mark my words!

Special :sorted: for batesy........ bit of a shock for the farmers when he pulled his colours out at half time!

The midfield pariing of Bean and KOC has been one of the main reasons we currently sit at the top of the table imo. Whilst Kev's enforced absence has obviously necessitated a change to that pairing, I certainly wouldn't advocate an entirely new pairing in Hunt and Smith at such an important stage of the season, nor would I expect Hunt to keep a fit again KOC out of the team unless he did something very special in the interim.

By all means pair Smith with Hunt to see what they can do, but let's wait until we're already up to do it. Personally I think we'd lack a combativity with that paring anyway.

Wycombe Match reports

Akinde excellent. Harrold, a much better player than when he left us, was very, very lucky - first elbow was disgraceful & a definite red, second elbow merely nasty & a definite yellow. Phillips was a lucky not to end up with an Elder type injury. No wonder Doherty was surprised to go off for use of an elbow - it had seemed like an acceptable tactic up until then.

Hopefully Dickson is not too badly injured. We will miss his pace at the back. The needless tackle from behind by Mousinho could not have helped.

A good battling performance by Brentford against a big, powerful side who, with Akinde, look a good bet for promotion.

Phenomenal work rate from Sam Wood. Bennett again outstanding, Sam Williams shows great promise. Downside is right midfield at the moment. Adam was anonymous today - he is a much better player than that.

Credit to Brett Johnson for doing well & not letting his slip affect the rest of his game & also to Hunt who both gave BJ encouragement after that slip & played very well himself in his first 90 minutes for us.

Overall, a very good advert for 2nd division football.

Wycombe Match reports

Apparently had blurred vision after taking a knock in the 1st half, should be OK for Tuesday

Wimp. The same could have been said of half the side after the arms Wycombe were throwing around

Wycombe Match reports

The positives.

10,500 crowd. Great atmosphere. We played them off the park and should have won by a country mile. Great finish and a what a player Sam Williams looks, he HAS to start IMO. I thought he looked good versus Barnet but today looked the real deal.

Negatives, 3 softer goals you will not see. Two horribly poorly defended corners and then dickson got dispossesed doing a drag back in our half and their bloke ran through to bury it. Apart from that WW offered nothing in attack all game and I can not remember 1 shot or effort at goal.

Ref was as usual poor, how the heck harrold did not get a red for the elbow ad then escaped the second one without a even a free kick is beyond me. They got away with 4-5 bad arial challenges and doherties red was a bit harsh.

Versus 10 men for 60 mins at 2.1 up we would have won at a canter.

Anyway, 1 more game gone and nobody is making inroads.

Dunno where you were, don't blame the ref. Akinde was fantastic and stuffed us good and proper. Played them off the park? Yeh sure, so much they scored 3 goals. Goals are goals, soft means nothing. Superb support from the olde Ealinge Roade contingent added to a great atmosphere and a great day. Didn't hear a lot from the olde Wycombe 1500 really, Excellent point, onwards and upwards. I've JUST got back from the pub, really buzzing around Brentford tonight. With a crowd of 10,000 today feels like the old days are back. How many will we get on tuesday?

Wycombe Match reports

5 live had two reporters there separetly and both have just been full of praise for the entertainment on offer yesterday. Interview with Greg Dyke later on the breakfast show,

Wycombe Match reports

Great game and what a treat to see such a big crowd in the old place. My 7yr old didn't bring his Nintendo DS out once and really got into the game and atmosphere.

Akinde was a real handful. As Brentford Bob said, Nathan should watch a video of Akinde's performance. That's what he should be aiming for.

Nice words from Peter Taylor at the end. It's amazing, you take a disliking to a club because of their manager (Sanchez), but Taylor sounds like a very decent bloke so I hope they go up, behind us :)

Special mentions for Hunt and Wood who I thought were both excellent today.

Wycombe Match reports

Harrold's elbow was the one that deserved a red; cowardly, deliberate and dangerous.
:imwith: He did it a couple of times too.

About 5000 Tuesday
As we sang endlessly your only here cos it's Wycombe
Which you were. You had so many because of how good a game it was going to be.
Your get 5000 Tuesday because Chesterfield won't bring anywhere near the 1500 loyal supporters we brought today.

By the way, your ground.
Nice on inside, but inside around food and toilets its the biggest sh*thole ever.

A) It's easy to be "loyal" when you're only 25 miles up the road.
B) Griffin Park is an absolute palace compared to some of the tossy Northern grounds in this League.

Oh yeah, the 1500 supporters you brought made the crowd upto 10,600, that means there were 9000 Bees there.

Your lot couldn't dream of getting 9000 at home for a league 2 match.
I can't believe your such loyal supporters didn't sell out the away end for a 35 minute drive to Brentford, I should know cos I live in Wooburn Green, that's one of the classier parts of High Wycombe, but that's to be expected of course cos Brentford I'm sure you will agree are a class act compared to the Wanderers.

By the way, your ground is lovely on the outside but it's like a morgue on the inside, you know kinda dead and so quiet.
