Women's World Cup

Women's World Cup

Swiss / Cameroon game warming up nicely.
Beckerman, Dickerman and Bachman playing for the Swiss.
No room for Turner or Uberdrive

Women's World Cup

May I just say that Cameroon goal was a in a 10 second passage of play, a perfect demonstration of how ***** women's football is.

The finish was decent.
The cross was decent.

The air shot, less so.

Women's World Cup

The cross was mis hit.

The "finish"- I think she kicked the ground harder than the ball.

The air kick- I spat coffee all over the floor.

Any comments on Cameroon's 2nd goal ?

Women's World Cup

Well worked.

Just to put my cards on the table I think it is criminal that in the pursuit of political correctness licence payers money is being wasted covering a standard of football that is largely of a standard you would see in a local park on a Sunday morning.

If telling the truth makes me a sexist pig. Then oink oink.

Women's World Cup

I enjoyed that 2nd half.

Still no sign of the 'high quality' the beeb tell me I'm watching, but it was entertaining.

Cameroon's No.7 was my woman of the 2nd half.

Champagne moment was the Cameroonian woman's reaction to her shot being cleared off the line.

What else can the BBC afford ?
Any other decent sport has been sold to SKY.

Nothing to do with political correctness.

Women's World Cup

Yes, this is the best I have seen an England's women team play! Excellent passing and moving and working really hard defensively. Karen Carney is a very classy player!

Women's World Cup

Wins for England and France see the French win the group and England go through as runners up

Women's World Cup

Good first half, average second half but did enough. Sad to say can't really get excited about Women's football :(

Women's World Cup

England were very good first half. Second half was okay until they took off Fran Kirby and brought on Sanderson, who on that showing was the worst player I've seen in this competition. all she did (bar one shot) was run around uselessly and barge into Colombians. Absolutely appalling show.

Good player is Fran. My daughter played in the same U15 and U17 England team as her and Alex Greenwood.

Alex Greenwood is probably one of the better England footballers on the pitch. Also, Toni Duggan. They look to have good skills and know what they're doing with the ball! Not many others do. It's ok to watch for a while, but I couldn't sit and watch a whole game!

Can't say I blame you. Some of it is proper crap!!

Women's World Cup

I feel sorry for the women progressing to the knock out stage, the ironing and washing up at home when they return is going to be horrendous !!!

The same Sanderson that I believe Jonathan Pearce announced was 'lethal in front of goal', when she came on. The OTT commentary does my head in.

fifa can't even decide if it's women or ladies....why aren't they just England or Holland etc?

I have really tried to watch and be enthusiastic but it all has the feel of a kids football festival. That is very patronising I know , but it is how it feels. Interestingly the commentators said last night that the city of Quebec has made no attempt to showcase the competition and its only when you get to the ground does it feel like something is going on. If that is reflected elsewhere it kind of positions the competition in world terms. I think the Beeb cover it so comprehensively to avoid accusations of gender bias. To be honest an hours highlights each night would suffice.

Women's World Cup

The Beeb are all over it because they've got naaf all else to show in the way of decent sport.

:sorted: :pop:

I wonder how many people the BBC have sent to cover this. While it isn't hard to come up with an argument that they really don't like sport, they do enjoy a good trip away at the license payers expense (272 to the men's world cup last year, over 300 to cover Glastonbury).

Women's World Cup

Blah blah blah anti BBC bias

What a goal from Bronze !
England 2-1 up in a very even game.

Women's World Cup

My summary of this world cup so far:

Alex Scott is well cute, but Lucy Bronze is a much better player.

Norway had the better of the first half, but England started the second period well, but conceded from an unneccessary corner, before England equalised , themselves from a corner, before a fantastic strike won it.

Women's World Cup

Great strike for the winner and after they scored I feared we'd concede 2 or 3 but fair play we went for it.
Taylor, Carney and Bronze were excellent, still not sure if the keeper as good as the presenters think but Canada were very ordinary so who knows?

I know what you mean about the keeper.

On a couple of occasions she made saves when the ball was going wide, one of which led to the Norway goal.

Women's World Cup

Thor Heyerdahl, Roald Amundsen, Henrik Ibsen, Ingrid Kristiansen, Leif Erikson, your girls took one...

...sorry, what was I saying? :brow:

Women's World Cup

Great result.

That manager always sounds utterly non-league the way he speaks, makes me laugh

Women's World Cup

9 years since the men won a knockout game in a World Cup.

Less than 6 hours since the women did.

I think we should go for it a little more. First half against Colombia and for patches of the 2nd last night we looked a really decent team. They need to get Carney on the ball in and around the opposition's box as much as possible.

Agree mate, get Carney on the ball and take the game to the oppo and we can beat Canada.

I thought Scott made the difference similar impact to greenwood/carney in mexicogame. The manager has a knack of getting the right subs on. Duggans work rate was awesome.. No one mentioned on the TV about our goalie being shoved along the goal as the corner came in. Bronzes strike was great but the build up play was excellent. Just about deserved I think as Norway were well on top in the first half hour.

Yep, Scott looked good when she came on.

Women's World Cup

Canada could be a different kettle of fish. Home ground, home fans, now that is worth a goal at least. however I like either Germany or the US for this.

You're not supposed to compare the women's game with the men's game - it's very different. That's what I read on the BBC website.
The commentator on 5Live spent most of the game comparing the women's game with the men's game.

We won. The winning goal was good, but a Sunday League 'keeper would have saved it.
Don't think we're going to win the tournament, but, like every other team, we will struggle to score against Canada.

It's all relative, I suppose.

:thetruth:
The standard of football is Sunday league, but there are some good moments. I'm sure the awful pitches have affected the quality of the football on show.

Their defender Buchanan is simply amazing.

Proper £40m type player in the male equivalent game
