Team vs Stoke (A)

Nice distraction from the league after two defeats on the bounce, before a run of three big games against teams below us in the table where we really need some positive results.

We could do with a win but perhaps more importantly we mustn’t lose any more important players to injury, so it’ll be another balancing act. Given a few injury problems it would also be nice to see some of those on the fringes a chance to play as well.

My team would be something like:

Alvaro
Roerslev Zanka Goode Thompson
Bidstrup
Jensen Maghoma
Brook Forss Fosu

Team vs Stoke (A)

There will be no Zanka, Jensen or Forss I suspect.

Can't see Ghoddos either. Rest is everything in this league and we have some midweek's coming up in a few months!

Absolutely no player that looks like a starter in the league please. ⚽

Winning puts us into the QF of a cup we got close to making the final of last season and which gives us a realistic first major honour. Stoke are going to be a tough opponent. This is the point at which we should start to play some first teamers from kick off. Though maybe the squad is too depleted by injury to make that realistic.

You could make half a case for this if we aren’t looking like possibly having JDS, MBS, Baptiste, Janelt, Wissa, Mbeumo, Pinnock and Raya injured going into it! As we do though, it’ll be injury limitation and I suspect few other no from the first XI!

A big pity for the more than 1000 going if you are right.

But if the Mbuemo injury is worse than expected I suppose it makes sense not to risk Forss. Why Ghoddos shouldn't start is more difficult to understand.

I’m not sure given the size of our current squad the prize is worth the risk to key players. We’re already suffering with some major players in the midfield.

Well it's the B teamers for me. In our first season in the PL think we should concentrate solely on the league and not get too preoccupied with the cups. :sneakoff:

Would like to see Fosu (absolutely no idea why he’s not in the first team squad - surely he’s earned a place ahead of ghodfos, for one - and Peart Miles

Team vs Stoke (A)

Isn't there also a B team cup match that night? That really doesn't help.

We are down to bare bones and frankly I would not play any of the first teamers.

I can see the following playing but beyond that....

Fernanzez
Roerslev
Stevens
Goode
Thompson
Bidstrup
Peart-Harris
Maghoma
Ghoddos - needs minutes
Forss - needs minutes
Fosu

It is a total mess.

Fernandez
Ajer Goode Thompson
Roerslev Ghoddos Bidstrup MPH Fosu
Forss Young-Coombes

Subs: Shepperd, Zanka, Oyegoke, Stevens, Onyeka, Maghoma, Jensen, Mbeumo, Haygarth.

Our squad is depleted by injuries already. We got into a mess last Feb and March through a depleted squad, and looking back, it may have been the cup run last season that got our players tired out in the first place. I particularly remember thinking the Rico’s injury was caused by overwork. Anyhow, it’s good experience for the younger players to get their chance, and the fringe players to have a go.

I'm looking forward to seeing the squad players with one or two first team starters. I don't see it being too many more than that. Burnley, Newcastle and Norwich are three very big games before a hectic December. We'll be pragmatic at Stoke but still try to get into the next round.

Last season we had many more weeks with 3 games in. While adding cup games to that didn’t help it did also mean fringe players who we needed for league games came into them having had good competitive starts and appearances in the cup. I think had we gone out early in the Carabao the broader squad level would have been weaker and when fringe players came in they’d have been less immediately reliable.

TF seemed very animated about winning this game .
We will have to play at least a couple of regulars i reckon for balance and leadership

Team vs Stoke (A)

Start to run out of options if so.

Racic for Zanka?
Ghoddos for Jensen?
NYC for Forss?

Really? Did they pick up knocks? Otherwise would be three of the first names I expect to see on the team sheet.

Team vs Stoke (A)

Fernamdez
Ajer Goode Zanka
Roserlev Thompson
Bidestrup Jensen Ghoddos
Mbuemo
Forss

Based on his post match presser, cannot see TF going weaker than that.
Ajer and Jensen need the mins more than other first 11 players
Mbuemo can gain confidence with goals/assists. Only played 55mins at the weekend too. Fosu seems to be frozen out.
Mahogma/Stevens not ready to start. Racic/Valencia as good as gone.

Didn’t Mbeumo go off injured yesterday?

Team vs Stoke (A)

I'm probably in a minority, but I'd go for essentially a full-strength team, only resting players who have genuine knocks.

Team vs Stoke (A)

Fernandez
Ajer Pontus Goode
Roerslev Thompson
Bidstrup Jensen Ghoddos
Mbeumo Forss
With a strong bench:
Raya, Zanka, Noorgard, Frank, Rico, Toney, Sergei. and Janelt if fit instead of Norgaard.

Top half (even 8) PL and LC final/win are feasible. We should go for it.

I wonder what strength team the Stokies will put out?

Team vs Stoke (A)

Just a tactical sub
I’m not sure it was, he was signalling to the bench minutes before he was removed. Also concerned about Pinnock and Raya. Personally I’d be happy to see the fringe squad players and B team. However, I’d be worried about losing any of the fringe players as things stand.

Team vs Stoke (A)

Yes he pulled up just before we got a free kick...and was stretching for a minute or so - and then was hanging about on the left wing as the sub got ready to come on.

Hopefully just niggle and just taken off as a precaution - fingers crossed

If there is a chance that Bryan won’t start v Burnley, then we should try and play someone that could fill that role at Stoke, who has some pace. Needing pace will rule out some.
I also don’t see the point of Thompson playing left back on Wednesday, wingback possibly but try him even further forward getting in those crosses that he is good at.

Fosu ?? What’s happened to him, if he’s injured I’ve missed it.

So who would you put LB/LWB instead? Rico?

I wish we knew, he has an excellent connection with Ivan. If he has fallen out with TF guys suck it up, with our injury problems we need him now and he doesn’t let us down.

Lack of CBs so Noorgaard to reprise his role from 2020;

Fernandez
Roerslev Ajer Goode Thompson
Noorgaard
Bidstrup Ghoddos
Canos Forss Fosu

Considering Janelt, Baptiste and Dasilva are all out right now, risking Norgaard in a Carabao Cup game would be very silly.

2 out of 2 of for wanting to play players out of position so far, out of interest, what would your starting lineup be?
I have little clue who is fit for Saturday, so makes Wednesday very difficult without knowing that. But I would like Roerslev & Stevens as the wingbacks

Where would you then play Thompson? You said you'd like to see him further up the pitch to get in his crosses so I'm just wondering how you'd lineup and what formation you'd play.

Decent. As Thompson’s a regular first team sub I’d rather give him a start and help him to develop now than Gordon who’s further down the order.

I started writing a reply to you, but then I got the chance to watch yesterday’s game on Sky and my thoughts changed.
I certainly wasn’t going to start Ajer but seeing as how much he went forward, I think he should play, maybe Zanka and his long throws too. I feel a win is important for the team morale, after 2 undeserved losses and for that we need a stronger bench.
Saman should start and hopefully that will help the ball stick to him better. I really wanted NYC to be our speedster up front helping press but maybe Fosu wide on the right instead, if he is fit
