2012 Paralympics

2012 Paralympics

I didn't actually watch any of the paralympics, don't know why just wasn't interested in it compared to the olympics which I watched every second.I guess I wasn't alone as this thread has 4 pages compared to 28 pages on the Olympics

Record viewing figures and 250,000 more tickets sold than predicted would say otherwise.

That's only because of the success of the 2012 Olympic games. During the Olympics, hundreds of thousands of tickets for the Paralympics hadn't been sold, but as spectators couldn't get tickets for the main Olympics and wanted to see the Olympic Park etc and just be part of London 2012, the tickets were selling out and even sold out in the end for the stadium.

If it was just the Paralympics this year, ticket sales wouldn't have been as high, it was the success of the Olympics which boosted ticket sales.

I watched the athletics and the cycling, On and off, on tv but found many of the other sports boring. Although I did admire, and acknowledge, the courage and sportsmanship of all the participants, whether they were blind, amputees, paraplegics, dwarfs or cerebral palsy sufferers, they were all a credit to themselves and their country.

It's been a great summer and the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics have shown the world how good we are at holding & supporting these huge world sporting events. They'll be a hard act to follow. Shame FIFA didn't see the same with regard the World Cup.

I was reading somewhere the other day that privately they do regret it.

Maybe the World Athletics Champs in 2017 will also show that they have a mistake

You've been brainwashed by Taxi haven't you:rolleyes:;).

Great games for London and GB on and off the track.

Unfortunately the fairy tale is now and at end and it's back to recession, cuts and the fat cats getting fatter whilst the put upon middle and working classes being asked to dig the country out of massive hole.

I think the closing ceremony may have spoiled some of the goodwill Britain has built up over the last few weeks. If you want to really emphasise that the party is over and could you all please **** off home NOW then 15 songs from Coldplay is the way to do it.

Quite enjoyed it myself. Thought it was better than the Olympic closing ceremony.

I was there, yes CP can get a bit tedious however some of the lyrics just seem to fit with what the games was all about, overall it was a sublime way to close the games, atmosphere inside was fantastic.

I dont like Coldplay. I would have liked to watched the closing ceremony but having to sit through all that Coldplay was far too much than i could bare. Although the closing ceremony of the olympics had a lot of faults, at least it had a variety of turns. Would loved to have seen PE perform Harder Than You Think, would have been priceless to have seen Griff do his thing on a stage like that!

Coldplay are great. They unite everyone is total hatred.

Hmmmm... someone must be buying their records?

That's right. People who don't like MUSIC. They file their Coldplay CD's next to Dido and the Lighthouse Family.

People who don't like MUSIC? It's such an incredibly pointless debate to have, but I suppose I'll bite. Personally, I love the Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, Radiohead. I would probably list them as my favourite artists. But...

...I was bought X & Y several years ago by my sister, after she heard me humming 'Speed of Sound'. Since owning that album, I have downloaded most of Coldplay's singles and enjoy listening to them on occasion. I'm not a huge fan, and understand that their particular brand of middle of the road, indie pop isn't to everyones liking, though they have a broad international appeal (according to their record sales).

As for 'filing my CDs' I can't say I have ever bought a Lighthouse Family record, though I did like Eminem's 'Stan'. I don't know if that puts me into your category of people who don't like music?

Just for clarity, who do you class as your own favourite musicians?

Ah bless you detours for 'biting'. My feeling is you cannot apply the marmite (you either love or hate it) rule to Coldplay because they don't evoke that level of polaric response. Yes music is subjective of course but I'd define Coldplay as tepid. I wouldn't even go as far to brand them as highly as MOR. I think alot of people find them tepid. Maybe as many as like them and buy there stuff.

For my taste in music I refer you to the random shuffle i-tunes thread. Or better still I'll just do one now quickly...hold on.......swish finger on i phone screen...tap the app button.......
1-Rotary Connection- I am the Black Gold of the Sun
2-Ten City-Superficial people (Norman Jay remix)
3-Super Furry Animals-Smokin'
4-Level 42-Love Games
5-The Black Crowes-Ballad in Urgency
6-A Tribe Called Quest-Once again
7-Smoke City-With you
8-The King-Pretty Vacant
9-The Raconteurs-Hands
10-Chas and Dave-The Sideboard song (One for the Beesotted FC Old heads there. A changing room classic)

I don't 'like' Eminem but I respect his output to a point. I am tempted to delete that sentence as its so Spinal Tap but hey I think you get where I'm coming from.

Now you see! You like the Rolling Stones! Don't you think it was a travesty that they....well Radiohead maybe as well...weren't in the ceremonies????

Ah, but your ipod has no Beethoven or Mozart... so your taste in music isn't worthy either! ;)

Fair enough, I wouldn't have thought that Coldplay deserved a whole set, they should have just played Paradise at the opening ceremony and left it at that. It would have kept everyone relatively happy :sorted:

As a fan of modern and new indie pop, theres no way I would ever put Coldplay in that category (bar Yellow). SO i have to agree they are more MOR or a genre i call 'local radio drive time'. Bands like Alt J, Matt & Kim and Cults are more indie pop.

I have heard on good authority the Rolling Stones were asked to do the Olympics, but turned it down. Also heard others who turned it down where Bowie, Noel Gallagher and the Sex Pistols. Blur were also considered but would have been unworkable with their Hyde Park gig at the same time.

Apparently Oscar Pistorius will be taking part in the Dunhill Links Golf Championship later this month
