He was a quality footballer who read the game very well and made intelligent use of the ball. Like you, I have a caveat: Liverpool defenders of that era often did not have to do a massive amount of defending.

He was a decent pundit. No more, no less.

And he was superb. Great reader of the game. A great pundit for his first 10 years or so as well. Got a bit repetitive, but still miles better than the rubbish now.

Only here could an argument develop over a rule that was introduced a year after the subject player stopped playing and in a thread that was nothing to do with the rule at all. Pallister/Bruce,Vidic/Rio,Terry/Carvalho spring to mind,but Hansen/ Lawrenson ?

Played at a time when iirc the Scotland managers preferred the more defensive minded and more traditional centre backs like the Aberdeen pair . Also when preference was given to players playing in Scotland.

Some of the media coverage feels more like an obituary. Strange indeed, and wholly unwelcome. I truly hope he pulls through, likewise Kevin Campbell.

They may have seen a lot of the ball,but when called upon they were top draw.
I saw some cracking end to end games with Liverpool in the early 80's and they were pressed all over the park.
