Wolves and Forest also interested according to the Mail, so obviously take with buckets of salt

I’ve always had the impression that Cooper would never sign a Brentford player! Obviously I’ve nothing factual to base that on. Alex should avoid that bonkers club and establish himself at a footballing Championship team, as a next step.

Is his contract actually up? If so will we get a sell on at least?

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

He's under 24 so we will get a fee as long as we offered him a contract at at least his previous salary.
Article mentioned compensation likely to be around the £1m mark if he stays in England, which would be very good for someone who first came as a trialist and never really looked like he was going to become a PL player.

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

Honestly would be a good move for him. Here he's too good for b, too far off the first team and a bit old to spend years shipping off on loans everywhere. Boro it's more realistic that he might break through. I'd take it if it were me
I've often thought the gap between the B and first team is a problem for us. Not too many will make the step up in my opinion. Bring back the Football Combination or the Midweek League. :judge:

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

Good gig for him if goes there. There is a good player there but not PL standard (yet)

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

he has always intrigued me, perhaps too good for the b team but not quite good enough to be trusted thrown in to a league match. Think he will end up having a good career
But going for a decent fee to a top 6 Championship club also shows how high the level of good B teamers who are still far off top half PL is. It’s not so far back that a £600k sale to a similar level club to Boro would have involved one of our best players.

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

Is he the third ex- Academy or B team player after Mepham and Forss who we will have received decent money for?

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

A very good move for him, as it's as if that failed Swindon Town loan in L2 has been written out of history. That extra 18 months in the B team, at an age when he should've been playing senior football, worked a treat! I guess it helps the perception that it is possible for players to hang on in the B team and, if you play a starring role, you could get a decent move.

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

Wow, that's some deal. Not sure why he's billed as a striker there though? Hope he does well but worry that's quite a big step from B team football. Remember seeing him as a trialist at the B team friendly with Hanwell. He's come on so much since then. Good luck Alex!!

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

At £600k at Boro it’s a squad role rather than first 11.

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

Deal worth up to a mil.. decent piece of business

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

That message above claims 600K and 400K in add ons. Good business, but hardly pocket change to the might bees who are splashing out 23M on a CB. Bosh.

Alex Gilbert (Middlesbrough)

We must have a sell-on too.
Doesn't sound like it to me, like, a sell-on for a free agent?

While Gilbert will move as a free agent, his age means Brentford will be due a compensation fee for his services which is likely to result in a deal worth around £1m, the majority of which will be paid in an up-front fee.

Though I'll stand corrected if the rules haven't changed and this is basically the same situation as Alfie Mawson:

But BFC may've reduced the calculated development compensation fee and included other add-on clauses.

Wasn’t he a trailist? Impressed in his first B team game. Impressive return. Hope he does well.
Yep, at Hanwell. Stood out... Think he scored a couple too although that could have been the next game?

800k, still very decent business though. We must have a sell-on too.
I'd say that was pretty impressive business for a player who's had very few league minutes and those only at League 2 level.

I’d have thought that as we have apparently come to an agreement with Boro it’s up to the two clubs to agree the structure and content of the deal.

Thank you. I hadn't heard of an add-on which appeared unusual for us. Now that's explained.
