Only positive thing to say is having seen his performances in the premiership, in one way we shouldn't have felt cheated when Hull paid £500k or whatever it was for him, it was more than he was worth. Easily the worst player to have played in the premiership and one of the dirties.

That is not positive. If he was valued at his true price, basically F-all, then turner would have been worth more and we would have got more.

What a day that was against Bournemouth

The relief after that goal went in was as good a feeling as winning the league IMO.

The pitch invasion (not looking for aggro as so many have been recently,simply one of pure joy) that followed will stay with me as well.

Saw Alex play last weekend for Canvey Island at Harrow Borough - he was really good at talking to the Canvey fans, but didn't get in the game at all - Harrow won 6-1 with some absolutely brilliant football, and Alex didn't look even close to the player he was at Griffin Park. Could probably play for a better side that Canvery Island though!

Yep, never did come back the same player. Same with Skulasson at Chesterfield away think it was that Niven who went in reckless and he didn't come back the same player either!

It's hard to know with Skulason, he didn't get much time before the injury to show what he was about. He was pish in the relegation season, like virtually everyone. He's gone on to have a fair career though, plus 12 caps for Iceland.

It was a terrible tackle and it's a shame that it came during Rhodes's only spell of consistent good form for us but I don't think we can lay the blame for his disappointing career solely at McShane's door; plenty of players came back from similar or worse and he did get opportunities at other league clubs. He'd always been a frustrating player but something clicked in the televised cup replay against Bristol City when he looked like a world beater and then continued until the injury a couple of months later.

But after his injury he wasnt the same player. He lost his turn of speed and didn't seem 100% committed in tackles incase he got hurt again

I'm sure he was about 21 when he joined us. Not experienced by any means, but not a kid.

How long have you been on the GPG ?
This is the realm of polar extremes.
We win - we are heading for the Championship + all the players are gods for a week.
We lose - relegation form and the players are not up for it.

Went down to see Margate lose at home to Cray today and Alex Rhodes played. Still looked lean and plenty of movement but no real pace left.
One great cross into the box but apart from that an enthusiastic but rather ineffectual fringe player. Remarkable when you remember that goal how the gods of football can one minute make you a star and a few years later you are playing in the wind and rain at Margate.
Incredibly poor pitch and conditions and bearing in mind Margate are top of the league they showed no real creativity or talent. I counted 15 lost balls!
Still that goal culminating in the Great Escape will still live in the memory.

Turns out one of them was Alex Rhodes, had a chat with him about when he was with the Bees and said to him what a ***t Mcshane was for that tackle. He mentioned King Kev and he knows HD as well. Nice guy wished him all the best.

Spot on, Picked it up New road side attacking the Brook road, cut in and hit low and hard to the keepers right. Cue massive sighs of relief and a kind of anti climax after that

That goal he scored was one of the great moments at GP, I am not sure it mattered so much for our great escape in the end but at the time we thought it did.
