Amir Khan

I love how as soon as anyone from this country looks like having a chance of success, some of us resort to taking great pride in their failures.

Every Boxer has to lose at some point on the way to the top of the ladder .Im sure that Amir Will Pick himself up from the canvass and continue to make his way to the top of the ladder .People should get behind the young boxers of this country as the sport needs them

Aside from the knockdown, some of the stuff being written on youtube is utterly deplorable. However I am not surprised considering some of the comments written, even after music videos. Before long, I can see youtube having to remove that facility from the site if they cannot moderate it.

Also, where has the animosity towards Amir come from all of a sudden? Is it because he is now seen as some kind of loser that it is fine to knock him? This has been coming for a few fights now, and all connections with Amir need a good look at themselves, and to review their methods, before sending Amir out for another fight.

Amir Khan

as per Holysmit, it seems to be the British mentality. reference Hamilton, Lewis; Murray, Andrew; etc...

Amir Khan

He will still end up being a good boxer in the future.

Last night was a triumph of substance over style. I'm glad Frank Warren and Sky got their comeupance last night. :sorted: As for Khan it will take a monumental effort for him to recover his career. A glass jaw and a shoddy defence are not recipes for a long and successful career in boxing.

Fw nearly got his comeuppance from an ex boxer (allegedly) :)

Amir Khan

I don't like him because when he was representing Great Britain in the Olympics all his relations in the crowd who said they were supporting him were waving the Pakistan flag. :nono:

absolute bollox.

Khan has always promoted himself as British, with Pakistani roots.

He was proud to have the Silver Medal for British boxing.

Amir Khan

i suppose TW3Bee added to the comments on 'YouTube', praising what a great victory for Columbia.

I know less than **** all about boxing, but how did Frank Warren and Sky get their comeuppance? Will Sky be refunding all the PPV charges? Will Warren return the monies he got for promoting the fight?

Possibly not but they may not be able to get away with charging a £14.99 PPV charge for Khan's next fight.

Amir Khan

Ah, I see. I guess the next question is whether they are contractually obliged to pay for his next fight, in which case they will lose out, I suppose.

I think Khan is contracted to Sky for a number of fights.

Boxing really has a bad habit of exploiting it's fans in a manner that the Premiership title.

Last nights fight was for the WBO Inter-Continental Title. Does anyone know what that actually means? It means that the promoter has to pay a sanctioning fee to the WBO. Frank charges SKY for a title fight and the fans pay more in the pocket both at the venue and in their living rooms.

The fight was on PPV. This meant that the fighter we saw on ITV a couple of months ago was having his next fight on Sky Box Office meaning that you required a satelite dish on your hous and to pay £15 for the priveledge of watching him fight someone who we had never heard of for a belt that means little more than the one holding up my jeans. (luckily I don't have to pay sanctioning fees for that)

Khan was fed bums that had no chance of beating him, (save Gomez in his last fight who had a slim punchers chance). He had taken a lot of criticism before last night as a result of uncompetitive matchmaking and as I said in the other boxing thread, he was an accident waiting to happen. The Limond fight set alarm bells ringing and most fans were extremely worried about his ability to take a shot on the chin.

I think we were really spoiled in the 90's with lots of great fighters gaining international recognition. These days SKY and Warren have been serving up WBU belt rubbish and trying to convince us we are watching the best fighters in the world.

Was at a bash tonight and Barry McGuigan was on our table. He said Khan is very, very unlikely to recover from this.

Correct he has.

lol lol...no. Bobby Davros 50th Party. There were some very fit birds from Eastenders on the next table. Well..two:rolleyes:

Amir Khan

Do you not recall a famous waist coat? I think I'm right in saying his father was strongly criticised by some Muslims for wearing it.

Amir and his Father were Patriotically(sp) British, I was refering to the other hangers on.

I'm not surprised. McGuigan, like many in boxing, calls it as he sees it and it is hard to see how Khan can revive his reputation. I look forward to McGuigan's report in the Mirror next Saturday, if not sooner.

He said he was covering his last fight on Sky, at Nottingham? ...and he looked vulnerable then.

McGuigan lives in Whitstable...quite a way out

Amir Khan

Bet he's had few of them. He must be older than 50 surely? Certainly looks it.

You gotta be kidding. He looks very good for 50 IMHO...you'd need to see him in the flesh. He also had his ex wife there, current g/f and 4 ex g/fs there:eek:

Shaw Taylor was there too...I didn't know he was still alive. Tony Hadley sang on stage. He's a big fellah:eek:...can't half drink lol

Les Dennis was also in attendance with his wife & baby. He looked pretty miserable.

Gilbert O'Sullivan (bet the young ones dont remember him) made an appearance but stayed in the clubhouse all night talking to a few select friends. Think he is a rather shy individual.

Those two girl from Eastenders are fitties (Billy wife is one, don't know the other one)...plus Shirley and the fat bird.

Oh yeah, Ed Stewpot Stewart was there too. Now he DOES look ancient lol

more bollox.

so what, they're his extended family, if they have flown in from pakistan then they can wave their flag, just as Amir and his Dad and brothers wave the Union Jack.

Amir Khan

Khan (and dad) seems more proud to be British than Andy Murray so he gets my support (particularly when fighting a non-Brit). I hope Khan can come back.

But he was fighting for Britain.

Amir Khan

Could your dislike of him have anything to do with the fact he is not white and representing Great Britain?

:imwith:

54 seconds:wave:

beaten in 15 seconds when the jab landed:wave:
My feelings re Amir Khan have nothing to do with his colour or religion. At the Olympics I thought it admirable that his pride in representing GB was clear. The images of him and his family, I feel, were positive. Anything that helps break down barriers is to be applauded.
As a boxing fan for many years and having some ambitions myself when young I respect anyone with the guts to train and climb through the ropes to fight. IMO Amir should have been advised to stay an amateur for longer and learnt his trade out of the spotlight. Being served up never wassers and no hopers is down to his handlers. Warren blaming the trainer for the match, although tongue-in cheek, is typical of a lack of respect shown towards opponents paid back this time by Prescott.
Barry McGuigan has it right-sadly Amir may never recover his confidence. I agree totally with Deathstroke's posts. Khan was overhyped to a ridiculous degree considering his earlier wobbles against punchers-hopefully his camp will learn the lesson.
I just wanted to clear up any confusion-btw-what's the similarity between Michael jackson and Audley Harrisson? They both wear gloves for no apparent reason:)

Amir Khan

Doesn't it say something about the standard of boxing in the Olympics that the last two British Gold Medalists, before DeGale, have not been World beaters when they turn pro.

To be honest, most gold medalists from generally don't do to much for a number of reasons.

Amir Khan

not sure Degale should go pro either..... If he thinks he'll be a millionaire, it will be coz of his agent and stupid TV companies and not his ability...

he should go for gold in 2012

Amir Khan

It always suprises me that the amateur World Championships are not televised as the Brit boxers at the Olympics mentioned them and had done well. Perhaps that's a good thing as it allows fighters to progress without too much attention. I hoped Khan would do another 4 years before he went pro as he had age on his side. The lure of fame and advertising etc must be a difficult thing to turn down.
De Gale came across as a personable guy in his post medal interview -I hope he will get good advice before he decides on the pro game. It's a very different sport and with the farce of different belts and governing(?) bodies it's getting more like Wrestling than the sport it used to be.
At one time fight fans knew every World Champ-it's calculator time now:(

Did nobody spot my deliberate mistake?

Maybe you are right really, Chris Finnegan won a European title, but fell short by being KO'd by Bob Foster in the 14th in a world title shot. He nearly set the world alight.

In the end Chris won 29 lost 7 with 1 draw on his record.

Audley has been a failure so far, for sure.

Chris Finnegan's lifestory would make a great but rather tragic film.

He is of Irish traveller descent and a long line of fighters, is the pc overview!

Unsure if he's still alive but he was unrecognisable when someone pointed him out to me in Iver some years ago. He was outside a pub he's been refused entry into, blind in one eye, had a drink problem and looked like he'd taken a few beatings since he hung up his gloves unfortunately. Kevin, his younger brother lived it up a bit for some years after quitting boxing but had a better support system and has since but quietened down a bit.

Amir Khan

Chris Finnegan is still alive !!

That's simply not true. You appear to know something about boxing, so I'm surprised you don't know that Khan was only selected for the British team for the 2004 Olympics after he threatened to compete for Pakistan instead. Fact with 100% added truth - just Google it.

I don't like Khan because of the following: on 23 October 2007, Khan was convicted of careless driving at Bolton Crown Court and given a six month driving ban and a £1000 fine. The conviction related to an incident that occurred on 2 March 2006, in the centre of Bolton when Khan hit a pedestrian on a pelican crossing whilst overtaking a line of cars and running through a red traffic light. Khan was estimated to be traveling at 47 mph in a 30 mph limit area and was in the incorrect lane of traffic. The pedestrian, Geoffrey Hatton, suffered a broken leg and lost his job due to the seriousness of the injury He died two years later at the age of 57.

Nice guy? Do me a favour.
