The actual fixtures are a decent mix, in the sense that Bournemouth are flying atm, Peterborough will be up there at the end, mk n oldham are mid table teams and tranmere and exeter will be down near the drop zone. Although its early, nows the time to catch up with the likes of boro and muff, leapfrog the other 4.

Andy Scott

If we did and should have beat Walsall, Hartlepool and Rochdale where would that put us.

I tell you, this division is there for the taking, that's one reason I am so disappointed with our results so far. If we could just score some goals, we'd be in the mix.

To those citing poor attendances as a reason for wanting him gone I disagree entirely. The crowds have been declining since MA left thus ending the "Great Escape part 2". The emphasis of which being to get out of League 1 and into the Championship because being in League 1 wasn't good enough for the clubs long term survival.

We got close to going up and the crowds were solid, then we struggled and it became clear, as it so happened, the only way we were leaving league 1 was down and the crowds haven't picked up accordingly since.

We could be playing brilliant football, scoring goals and being at the right end of the table yet still only bring in between 4 and 6k depending who we are playing against.

There are some things you can question Scott on, as there are with the majority of managers up and down the country. This time we do have the players minus perhaps one more striker.

If we start playing well and the injuries get sorted out I expect Adams may well start playing in the centre as the attacking midfielder and our league position shall be a much better reflection of the set up we have.

He won't mate, he is an out and out winger and i doubt very much we will ever see him in the middle.

Andy Scott

I agree with your attendance analysis but I really can't see that Adams has any of the qualities we want in the centre of midfield. He's a wide midfielder who likes to cut inside and have a pop but he loses the ball far too often. He may not have the speed of Weston but he has a bit of ability to get past a defender and far, far better decision-making. Better for him to learn to retain the ball and stick outside, methinks.

One win doesnt mean a great deal.. lets see how we get on against:

Oldham- H
Tranmere- A
Peterborough- H
Exeter-A
Bournemouth-H
MK Donkeys-H

6 Must Win games IMHO !

I expect demonstrations on the forecourt if we dare drop any points....

Top by Christmas please Scott, or the axeman cometh :sad::hat: :moo:

"The crowds have been declining since MA left"

Careful saying things like that
Perhaps it has something to do that he took us to the play offs twice and the 5th round of the FA cup ?

Brentford's crowds have been fluctuating (has Billy Reeves said this on beesworld yet? :D) for the past 30 years. MA's reign saw them increase a bit, then went back down, now back on the up. It's what happens on the pitch now which brings in the paying customer.

Dont look to good in B/W does it WP,and yet i believe I'm right in saying that I attended a game in the early 60's against Oxford or Watford, and there were close to 30,000 for that game. Unfortunatly we lost the game. Maybe you have a way of checking the above. :)

Without checking the records, IIRC we got around 27000 for an FA Cup replay versus Oxford Utd( then of the Fourth Division) and 30,000 for the visit of First Division Burnley in a replay the following season. A couple of seasons earlier we got around 22000 for the visit of Third Division Watford in an FA cup replay.:)

But it was great to savour such big match atmospheres, and it did demonstrate that we then had great potential for pulling in large crowds.

I'd say it was a lot more simple than that. Success breeds bigger crowds. We had some huge attendances in League Two when we were flying high, rememer Wycombe and Exeter at home? I also remember some fairly average crowds under Allen when things weren't going so well.

success does but we havnt got huge crowds for years.when winning the league the other season our gates were pretty poor on average,i remember 10,000 against Wycome, great attendance, then a few weeks later it was down to 7/8000 when Exeter came, this after a very entertaining 3-3 draw with Wycombe keeping us top and with Exeter bringing the same or more than Wycombe.Gillingham wasnt much better with them bringing a good crowd too.and one of our last home games of the season against Accrington the gate was back down to around 5000,very poor.If i remember rightly we could of been promoted that day(might be getting mixed up there, correct me if im wrong).Under MA,the average gates were up,were good but not what they could/should be.the play off final at Millenium was embarrasing,we were never gona compete with Stoke selling theres out,but was it 9000 Brentford !?:(

I think you'll find there was 7000 at the Accrington game, correct me if i'm wrong!

Andy Scott

Not bad crowds for the 4th division. Accrington only had about 100 fans down here.

The game against Wycombe had, for some weeks, been billed as a title decider.

:backtotopic:
I was terrified when Scott made his subs. I thought Alexander was the only player who could keep the ball up front and Wood was constant running, never giving any Charlton players time on the ball. It felt like we were inviting them to pump long balls at us.

We won though, so I am as happy as I was before Saturday.

Spot on Geoff. Well Done :sorted:

you sure ? was there ? if so then i stand corrected but still not that good, gates still dropped dramatically after the wycombe game while on route to winning the league

7135 were in attendance. A good crowd considering the oppo.

All going a bit off topic though really.

Back to topic..................SCOTT OUT the quicker the fulham virus is out of this club the better :banghead:

Wycome was a great crowd,i never expected us to 10,000 average ! no chance.Shame the gates still went down after we did, even when away support was the same or better than Wycombe

though Alexander seemed a bit miffed at being subbed he did look shattered.Wood had a stormer and got better as it went on,he prob wont get a fair crack after that, doesnt seem to happen in this side when you have a blinder:confused:;)
game would have been done a dusted if the 3rd wasnt questionably disallowed, game would have fazed out at that time but it gave them an incentive and barring a few hairy moments that happens in them situations ithought we dealt with it well and still counter attacked with chances ourselves, not all bad in my view

And wasn't Bob Lord the chairman of Burnley in those days Geoff. For some reason he was hated except in Burnley, I might even have the programme still.

You admit to hardly going, mate you really don't have the right to comment about our poor displays if you're not there! Could of easily been 2-2 and these stupid posts about insurgents and traitors wouldn't exist. Talk to me about Scott when we win 3 on the spin. At the moment his results mean we have blown the play offs, so he is failing. Again, I support Brentford, and said so before the game, but to suggest to not liking Scott is not supporting BFC is rubbish. BTW this is not aimed at you, but at the Noddy type poster arseholes.

Not sure what led to this post, Dave. I didn't comment on our bad displays in the post you quote and in the previous one said quite clearly that I didn't doubt that we had been poor.
I would not dream of using the word 'traitors' about fellow Bees fans - 'insurgents' was used lightheartedly in a post to Claire. Sorry if it caused offence, it wasn't meant to.
Finally, I am happy for you that your life is in a place which enables you to get to every (or almost every) Bees game - mine isn't, but trust me I'm living and breathing this obsessive habit every bit as much as you are

I know its off topic but I remember that Burnley game very well. The crowd was so packed in all you could do is go with the crowd when it swayed, sometimes quite a distance. Scary but exciting. Back on topic. Come on Scotty, 3 more points and more tippy tappy football please.

hoof ball? We played football on the front foot and if the right approach was to play it early, we had the players to spot the opportunity and do so.

Your comments ignore the high quality of players in that team and is disrespectful to them and their manager, IMO.

Without doubt, the best Bees' team that I've seen in nearly 50 years of supporting them. A team that could go direct when required, but equally comfortable in passing and keeping the ball.

I imagine Bliss may wish to comment on this.

The official stats show:

8/11/60 Watford (FA Cup replay) 21,000
28/1/64 Oxford (FA Cup replay) 26,000
12/1/65 Burnley (FA Cup replay) 30,448

And, in the two seasons before the Watford game, we had:

27/3/59 Plymouth (eventual champions) (League) 29,000
26/9/59 Norwich (League) 21,600

The best in the 60s apart from the three games mentioned above appears to have been:

8/1/62 Leyton Orient (FA Cup) 19,700
1/5/62 Grimsby (League) 18,126
28/11/61 Aldershot (FA Cup replay) 17,800

Nearly 31000 against Burnley in the cup in the early 60's. 17-18000 was, if I remember correctly, common in the 4th division at the same time.

Stilll off topic but of the above games (I cant check Grimsby on soccerbase) we won 2 drew 1 (and lost the replay) and lost 5. We usually used to struggle in front of big crowds at GP in those 10 years

We lost the Grimsby game 2-0, but, then again, they finished second and we finished one from bottom that year!

Not really. The only home games with crowds over 17,000 in the 60s are mentioned in my earlier post (1738). However, there were probably a few in the late 50s where we had crowds exceeding 17,000, but I haven't got the time to check this at the the moment, I'm afraid, but I suspect that they would have been the exception rather than the rule at GP.

I think that was only for certain 'big' games. Football fan culture was different in those days. We use to get Chelsea and Cockney Reds. fans coming to see us play if their first team wasn't playing in London. And Watford was an excuse for a ruck with Spurs, Southend were West Ham in disguise. Some of the midweek games also, we got some decent crowds (Stockport, Wimbledon).

I think it definitely helped with the floating fan that we were a team that scored goals. It's hard to get excited about a side that rarely scores more than one a game.

Andy Scott

"Our forward players have been too isolated, we worked to try and push the midfield up."

:bound::bound:

That was so evident at the weekend, short passes and keep ball at times when no ball was on instead of a hoof. 60 whole minutes of this until the legs got tired and the minds soon followed.

Pretty much what most people knew should be done - And knew it some weeks ago.

But what do we know ?

To be fair mate i think he has been trying to get them to do it for a while too. They just decided not to have nosebleeds on saturday.
