I want Andy Scott to stay, i'm grateful for what he's done and want him to do well. I'm more interested in what's happening NOW and it's dull football which isn't working for us!

I'd love to see him turn things around. At the moment, i've got from complete faith in his ability, to having a few doubts. But being a fickle football fan, 4 wins in a row & my mindset will change.

What 'grinds my gears' is that Andy only seems to have plan A. If it's not working, like against Orient, there's nothing else, no other formations or tactics that come into play to change things.

FYI i'm in the 'more time for him to turn the club around.'

So what you are saying is, we get relgated first then sack AS? That is what you are saying isn't it? If so you are talking nonsense.
I firmly beleive that relegation is not on the agenda under AS - that is why I felt able to make such a statement. Of course, if we lose the next 12 games for example, I might change my opinion, but I do think AS deserves more loyalty and respect at this juncture than some seem able to give him. The reality is if we won the next 2 games, no-one would be calling for his head - that's what gets me......having said that Brighton and Charlton don't exactly look like 6 points in the bag:cool:

Andy Scott

Just out of interest Nick, at what point would you consider that we might have to part company with a manager?

Difficult question but i think and hope we are a long way from going down that road.

Andy Scott

I'm sorry but this is utter garbage. We finished 9th last season, extremely respectable for a newly promoted team and even more so when compared to the finishing positions of the other teams promoted with us.

To suggest that Szczesny played a big part in when we finished is absolutely correct, but to find an angle to use this as a way of questioning Scott's managerial capabilities is sodding ridiculous. It's like suggesting Benitez was lucky in signing Torres because without him Liverpool wouldn't score any goals. It's an utter non-argument as far as I'm concerned and I'm getting tired of it being trotted out as some poor way of suggesting Andy's not up to managing at this level.

We're struggling at the moment and Scott is under real pressure. I wouldn't sack him now as I would expect more patience to be shown with any manager, never mind one who's already presided over two highly successful seasons. That said, performances such as last night's or the games against Hartlepool and Rochdale aren't acceptable and must be addressed urgently.

I think it's clear to most that we lack flexibility and although I accept he's a young manager learning on the job, Andy and his backroom staff must find a way of addressing this tactical flaw if we're to turn some of these tepid performances into draws and wins.

I've no idea how long to give him to resolve these problems, but I'm absolutely sure that letting him go now would be too soon.

Reassuringly, it seems on the basis of the poll that this pretty much sums up the large majority of GPGer's views. It was an interesting exercise but I am not sure anything new can now be said on this issue. The people do not appear to be with the insurgents, so let's put this one to bed for a few weeks.

Just out of interest Nick, at what point would you consider that we might have to part company with a manager?

recently we've parted company with butcher, fitz, quinn, leroy ..... as well as a few who jumped ship. we've had 11 managers since the turn of the century.

and some are now baying for another head into the basket despite beating everton (yes, everton) a few days before.

my county cricket club, sussex, have had two managers in ten years.

we've had good times but were relegated a year ago from the premier division.

the club kept faith with our manager and last night we celebrated our promotion back to the elite division at the end of season awards' dinner.

at no time was it suggested we sack our manager.

a lesson maybe?

Depends how you read the poll really doesn't it? The votes of those in favour of a decision now are more for him to go than to stay so the insurgents are actually in the majority.

The rest I would read as undecided. That can range from give him an extra 2 games to the rest of the season and are therefore inconclusive.

Having seen some real rubbish in 40 years of watcing Brentford and having enjoyed Tuesday night - which was awesome in the context of those 40 years I almost hope some of the iidiots on here get what they deserve, but fantasy football has a lot to answer for. I was brought up that supporting a team was about cheering them even when they are rubbish and I wouldn't still be here now if that wasn't the case. Think Scotty has lots to learn but it is an insult to what he has achieved to have a poll as to whether should we dump him after 8 league games. If I was him I would take the first offer that comes (and he will get them) because if some oif the comments here are reflective of our real fans what's the point. I don't want any association with some of the miseries on here - supporting a team doesn't mean sack the manager every time we lose. I don't think we are good enough for the Championship, but we are also far better then last year, so we are not going to be in the relegation scrap either - so why can't we enjoy the ride and get behind the team ?. Mid table is boring so we need to have someting to focus on - up the Bees and up yours to the miseries - you know who you are and I reallly wish you would vote with your keyboards, because in most cases I don't think ir would impact attendances anyway,No real fan stays away when the team needs support.

I would be rather surprised if Mr Benham was prepared to let AS get us relegated, and then wait to see if he could get us back up. Come to think of it, I'd love to know what Mr Benham is thinking right now.

Only came on to escape x factor , but some posts on here are ludicrous. The lack of respect towards a manager who has done so well for us is staggering. To call for him to be sacked is just madness. . All the players talk of how this is the best spirit in any squad they have played in but according to the experts on here everyone is unhappy. We have 2 defeats in 8 games and let in 2 goals in 5 gamesffs. Last night was gutting but we didn't deserve to lose. I don't understand this dislike of a good young manager.

I don't even like Scott as I have heard stories about him on a more personal level, but I certainly agree with this. I give a dig here and there because of my first sentence but I cannot believe people are asking for his head. He has done a great job for us. Champions, then 9th? place finish. Then last 16 of the cup. Are you lot forking mad if you think we are better than that?! Big budget agreed but need to give him time to get it right. And that means next season aswell. Even if the unthinkable happens.

You make a very confident statement that we won't be in the relegation scrap. Just out of interest, what would your position be if, say, in December we are in the bottom 6 and playing poor stuff with ever dwindling attendances?

I' ve made my position pretty clear those people who only support a wiinning team are wasting their time supporting Brentford. I thought we were a league below and bottom 6 when Scotty took over and we supported him then to get our Brentford back. I can't remember a better night than Tuesday at Griffin Park so feels like a parallel universe. Arsenal and Chelsea both lost today so trust they also have a supporters poll to sack their manger. Loyal supporters not.

I agree with this and your previous post, we have advanced so far since Andy Scott took over. He deserves a lot more than 8 games, everyone keeps saying we have a good squad, was it not Andy that got this squad together? The team will come good, I don't think we'll meet make the play offs but we'll be nearer that end than the other. This is his first real blip as our manager, he's made mistakes but I am confident that he will turn things around. Surely he deserves our support for what he has done for the club the past couple of years?

This is my 50th year watching the Bees and we both know as longstanding sufferers that supporting Brentford isn't an easy ride. But I support Brentford not AS and if we're struggling around December , the Board needs to make the right decision.History doesn't win football matches and I agree that AS did a superb job getting us out of League 2 but it's where we go from here that's important-where my club and your club goes from here. What is frustrating many fans at the moment is that we have a strong squad and the best financial opportunity in years but it isn't working and AS's tactics are ineffective. I don't give a monkeys about the Carling cup-that's a pleasant diversion-it's the league which is our bread and butter.

It's not purely about winning though, it's about a manager having reportedly spent £3.5 million this season and not having a Plan B and then proceeding to blame anything and everyone but himself for our current league position.

If he showed an ounce of humility and admitted that HE got it wrong I don't think as many people would be feeling the way they do right now.

People are saying trust him, he will get it right etc. Based on what? Apart from the big games, where the players are putting themselves in the spotlight, what has changed since Carlisle?

We have no plan B.

We have a large squad because he wanted 2 players for every position, so why the hell does his stick with the same team that is mostly running on empty due to playing 120 minutes 3 nights earlier when there's a back up for nearly every position?

Any half decent manager can figure us out after watching 1 game. Get it to the wings and if Myles has been marked out of contention, hoof the ball up the middle.

I don't like AS but I hope he does turn it around, I really do but because I love this club.

Arsenal came back from being 3-0 down today and with an extra 10 minutes who knows? The supporters probably left a bit gutted but they also probably saw some great football and a fighting spirit and will get over it when things get changed around a bit by Wenger and they bounce back by battering someone 6-0.

We on the other hand, have the prospect of going to Bighton and watching the same s*** and hearing the same excuses and therein lies the problem.

People are finding it difficult to see where the change will come from but I hope it does come soon.

There isn't any other way of 'reading the poll'. The people who want AS to go now are well in the minority. You cant disregard the people who want to give AS more time as 'inconclusive' as for the moment they must be counted in the AS must definately stay camp, at the very least for the next game.

30% isnt a majority darling, the option of giving him more time is still a decision now, even if the decision is inaction.

You can't cut it any other way.

He went to orient we might just find out soon ,as for rogercross just to go too gp for a long time doesn't mean you have to agree what turns out in red and white is all-ways good, like some of it is s/ite and we need more than a one trick pony running the show because its the first time in fifty years that we've had a man willing to put in his own money into the pot. He deserves much better than being dished up for the likes of hartlepool and orient otherwise he will be on his way .

There are issues & problems than need to be sorted for sure. We will turn the corner and believe Scott will be the man. He has earnt time.

Andy Scott

It's not often I feel compelled to write on the gpg these days but some of the posts on this thread beggar belief.
It's strange that a manager who won us the title and finished ninth in a tough division last is now being publicly pilloried.
I have worked with brentford managers since perryman and yes I have had a few fall outs With andy Scott but I can honestly say he is totally committed to the club, has a strong feeling for the fans and has, for the most part, brought in some decent players.
Stubborn he may be but only publicly....privately he will be questioning himself and seeking the views of bullivant and co.
He is arguably one of the best young managers about so I'm frankly staggered that people are reaching for the ejector seat button eight games in.
Four goals scored is worrying but at least it's a tangible and solvable problem that will be sorted with a tweak here and there.
I am an eternal pessimist when it comes to brentford as Scott himself will testify but to get rid of him now would be a huge mistake.
I still believe we will be top seven but you have to keep the faith.

You might not agree Jim,but l am not surprised at all by the negative posts re Scott. The biggest indicator on what the fans think is those who pay to watch the team, its rapidly going south. Some posters on here the pro AS ones, would be quite happy to see the likes of me and others who dare to question anything to do with the club to join the list of missing fans.As far as your points regarding AS being totally committed to the club well l should hope thats a given ,we pay him ,and pay him well.Us fans are committed most like me and you have to travell a fair distance to home games. As far as AS being one of the best young managers around I suggest you look at his record re his last 20 league games.AS has one of the biggest playing budgets in this division thanks to Matthew Benham not us fans turnstile money and l feel this is a wasted opportunity as l dont think he can take us any further.I am all for lively debate and even fans protesting its when they stop coming to games that l start to worry. If AS stays and takes us to 7th in the league as you predict l will be as happy as the rose tinted brigade on here and will gladly take their flack when it comes my way,in the meantime l am firmly in the Andy Scott out camp.See you around Jim.

Andy Scott

I agree with you Claire regarding lack Of Plan B and playing Tuesday;s team bar Lee having extolled the virtues of a squad was a mistake, so i'm not saying Scotty isn't making mistakes, but I still think supporting your team doesn't mean voting the manager out every time we lose or play badly. Once the players step over the white line they have to take some responsibility but it would appear when they play well it is down to them and when they play badly sack the manager which doesn't seem right to me.

Andy Scott

You can read it anyway you like, but there is no debate about what the poll shows in the real world.

The 3rd option says 'too early to decide' so obviously that must mean 'more games must be played until I decide whether AS should stay or go'. That means the vote must count (provisionally) as one for AS to stay for the moment.

For you to declare a victory for 'AS out', you would have to disregard 40% of the vote.

Yes you can read it 'anyway you like' and grossly misrepresent what the results of the poll say, but you would be wrong.

Roger, I don't think it is a case of playing badly and wanting the manager sacked after one or two bad performances. We have had a problem now with our style of play and the results it yields for some time. We have won 8 out of our last 30 league games. This is almost a one win in four ratio. We do not score many goals.

I attend every home game and a number of away games and will continue to do so regardless of results. I am finding it increasingly frustrating however that Andy does not appear to acknowledge that his style of play is not yielding the results we all desire. I also find our style of play boring and difficult to watch. If our results were positive then I would accept Andy stating that "this style of play will win football matches etc etc" but the facts are we are winning one in four at present and I am looking for an acknowledgement from the manager that things are not working and also looking for some sign of change from him.

I am not so fickle that I have become part of some 'sack the manager' brigade because of a couple of bad results. This has been building up for a while now and certainly has been going on long enough for Andy to have seen it and done something about it.

We have the resources now to not only play attractive football but to also win football matches. If we had a playing budget of £1M then I could understand but the fact is we should be getting much better than we are and me saying so does not mean I am unloyal, fickle or anything else.

Andy Scott

or do the players need to buck their ideas up.
We've got the talent, they just need to raise their game for league games.

They won't raise there game while Scott is in charge, awful football, we are so horrible to watch. And yesterday's game was lost before we started, dropping Richard Lee has got to be he's worse decision since he has been in charge. What did that do for team morale, it just goes to show whatever certain players do, it will never be good enough. Football is a team game and if you perform on the pitch you should be given a chance, and Lee earned that on Tuesday night. Maybe we would still have lost, but I'm sure the team morale would have been better, and the squad players would know if they performed on the pitch they will get there chance.

Andy Scott

You probably believe that the current Government was the one actually voted for as well ;)

No, actually I am for proportional representation, so your little diversionary comment is redundant. ;)

Secondly, judging by your stance I get the impression that you do not agree that the tories got no majority in the vote yet are in charge of the country. So you must also agree that 30% is not a victory of any sorts?

lol so what is your point? lol do you even know?

Andy Scott

This poll is ok for a bit of knockabout not even 200 have taken part so far but the "real world"poll will be the fans prepared to pay money at the gate like myself if results carry on as they are dread to think how many turn up for the Oldham game in a couple of weeks.

Andy Scott

I'm happy to give Scotty another two matches, knowing full well that Brighton away and Charlton at home are two stinkers when things are desperate. A bit of a shame, but it's his own silly fault he's fluffed the Hartlepool, Walsall and Leyton Orient matches.

The next manager will arrive in the unfortunate position that half of our winnable games for the first 23 matches of the season have already been squandered.

Andy Scott

I find it hard to get my head round people questioning AS job a few days after one of the best ever nights in my 30+years of torture at GP. Tuesday was awesome. Friday was pants. Its Brentford innit.

I agree with the main concerns re lack of a creative midfielder, lack of a plan B etc and agree it seems obvious and is frustrating, but for me AS still has plenty of credit in the bank.
He`s a young manager but he`s intelligent. I dont quite understand why he seems to be disliked by a few on such a personal level:confused:

I also think that we have as good a board of directors as we`ve probably ever had. Loads of proper BFC blood in there and i doubt if they are sharpening their knives just yet.

Spent the 2nd half with our multi-millionaire benefactor. Quite amusing that he sits anonymously with the rest of us unrecognised but thats the way he likes it and good luck to him !

Do you believe that labour had the majority then even though they had less votes than the tories

Gordon Brown tried to pretend that the "sitting on the fence" votes were actually votes for him. After a few days he realised that we would take anybody except those morons who sold the family jewels and our pensions to pour the money into PS final salary pensions and scivers benefits.

I voted for AS to be given more time, my vote can be catagorically counted as one who wants AS to stay but I reserve the right to change my mind if in 6 week or so we are sinking. You may not assume this vote means I want him to go, if I did want him to go I would have voted so.

Thank you and good night:cool:

There are issues & problems than need to be sorted for sure. We will turn the corner and believe Scott will be the man. He has earnt time.

I truly hope you are right MB.I want to be proved wrong as much as anyone else on here. The simple truth is I never rated AS as a player. I rate him even less as a manager. In saying that, if I'm proved wrong I will eat humble pie and admit I was wrong.
As I've said before on paper we have an exellent squad now, Although maybe some tweaking is needed urgently. I agree with you on one thing. BFC will NOT be relegated What gets me is the fact that a lot of the fans who follow BFC religously can see where the present problem lies, but does AS know? A lot of these fans are just as knowledgable as AS.

I think the football at the moment is generally dire but AS through luck or judgement has progressed us enough over the last two years to be given more time to sort it out.

I look at this squad and think we could still turn it around. But it needs to happen soon and we need to be able to vary our play

I was about to challenge you (again) on the fact that you felt the need to tell us yet again that you've never rated AS & never will & that you again wanted to be proved wrong on this point.

Then I thought, I can't be arsed. I'm not sure if you know this but Blunstone thinks we've got too many players (or he did before he went on my ignore list!).

Mark, in our promotion season, I (being a pessimist) really appreciated your confidence that we would get promoted. I really hope that you are right in your assertion that relegation will not be an issue. Performances & results clearly need to change PDQ if we're not to get caught up in a downward spiral.

Andy is becoming a victim of his own success, just look at where we are now as a comparison to when he took over.
Just give him time, and he will sort it out. It is a new team and will take time to gel, we are playing very well defensively now so its a matter of time until the form is reversed.

The post above is spot on....I think people need to remember where we were when butchers shambolic reign ended and then see where we are now.
It does concern me when people whose opinions I respect like bill benn are joining the Scott out brigade but I'll remind him how we disagreed in a few months time.
I agree with the sentiment of some posts re andys reluctance to change things mid game - giving a 20 goal striker two mins to turn A game round is pointless and if he needs an op why is he on the bench - but do feel the players need to share the blame.
Consider this.....
One down with five to go at home last season and there would have been a genuine feeling that we'd turn it round ..I haven't felt that this season and that bothers me more than any so called naïveté from the gaffer.
That comes pure and simple from the desire of people on the pitch.

Totally agree that he should be given more time, I would say wait until 10 league matches have been played at 5pm on October 2nd before making any definitive judgement.
