Bees v Coventry Reports

The best and the worst of Uwe's Brentford in 95 minutes. It was a sloppy first 20. We looked lethargic and conceded a poor early goal when we waited for an offside down the right which didn't come and their forward wriggled into the area to score from a tight angle, through Moore's legs.

But we got better as the half wore on, gradually building momentum to the point where we were playing some blistering stuff, mostly down the right prompted by Shay playing like a man possessed. Few teams in the division could have lived with us but the chances kept falling to Hayes whose confidence in front of goal is shot to pieces. He missed two absolute sitters, one from a misplaced back pass and the other a McCammonesque header into the ground and over from 6 yards out. He should also have done better with a tame effort at the far post from a corner. Fortunately Forshaw and Harry combined well down the left and the latter showed the strikers how to finish to give us parity at half time, which was the least we deserved.

The tempo dropped a touch in the second half but the half chances kept coming........and being missed by Hayes. In his defence he linked well with CD outside the box and kept getting into the positions to miss. There is a good player in there somewhere. Things might have been very different if he hadn't missed that penalty against Yeovil.

For all our neat passing it looked like this game was going the way of most others this season. We could even have lost it as Moore had to turn over a long range effort then watch helplessly as a 30 yard piledriver cannonned back off the post. We seemed to have no momentum going into 5 minutes of injury time but then Harry, who terrified Coventry all night, went down in the area. It was a soft decision and as he had already picked up a yellow for diving maybe a surprising one. But as GP held it's breath he never looked like missing from the spot and finally we have a comeback win.

This shouldn't hide the same old deficiencies on front of goal and failure to press home our manifest superiority, but when we play well, as we did in spells tonight, we look a really, really good team.

Well deserved win. Positives were excellent football played in spells, Forshaw played 90 mins, Harry looked like Maradona occasionally [ except with his shooting at the end of runs-keep your head over the ball Harry], created a bagful of chances, got a dodgy pen decision [ but we have deserved a break], Spencer looked promising.Everyone played well and I include Hayes but .....
Negatives were sloppiness at the back occasionally again [ ball watching],Hayes missed chances[ one in the first half was a cast iron header].Clayton hardly had a shot all night.
Another win on saturday please.

Spot on- we still lack the cutting edge to make it to the top 6- great atmosphere in Griffin Park. Rosler get another forward on loan ASAP and we can be a promotion candidate.

great game, we played some great stuff tonight, we missed a lot of sitters but we kept going and the move that led to the pen was quality

Some lovely passing football to savour again, Douglas tackled tough all night but Hayes is a donkey at the moment...

I'll write a more detailed report at some point, but I think Hayes was slightly mistreated here. Cheers when he went off and strong abuse when he missed the header. Personally I felt that Donaldson put too much height in the cross to Hayes and Hayes could do no better as a result.

He hasn't looked like scoring at all, and I hope that's something that'll change. But I wouldn't give up on him yet. The new striker did look pretty good when he came on though, will be interesting to see more of him.

him.

For the second half header, yes. But the point blank one in the first half was on a plate.

When you say he hasn't looked like scoring, he could have fairly routine hat trick today -- one on one from a misplaced backpass, and two headers unmarked from 6 yards. I certainly hoped he would score at least one of them.

Bees v Coventry Reports

Our forwards need to start taking a wage from the opposition, beyond frustrating.

Thought it was a penalty.

We deserved to win overall.

Got to love a last minute winner.

Absolutely shocking away support.

The one on one, he tried to slide it between the goalkeepers legs but he got enough of a touch, you'd hope he'd score but he was at a bit of an angle. I can't remember the other header to be honest...

He hasn't looked like scoring, and he could have done better here or there. But I think it's still a bit early to rule him out entirely and to start hurling abuse his way. I'm sure he'll get a goal sooner or later and hopefully he can kick on from there, I'm sure that's what we all hope will happen.

Bees v Coventry Reports

Mostly covered by previous posters, thought we just about shaded it on our overall play even if we got lucky with a dubious pen.
Hey ho about time we got the rub of the green and glad we met Coventry now who will take points off a lot of sides this season and will climb the table soon I'm sure.

Thought the back four looked good after they'd been caught cold with McGoldrick twisting his way into the box on their first sortee into the danger area. Still think we stopped because the bloke the ball was played to was offside but he left it and McGoldrick showed why they paid £1M for him. Noticed that they had £500k sub in Cody McDonald so regardless of their position they have quality players albeit they seemed to like their pies!

Learnings from tonight, for me it's obvious Forshaw should play in the middle of the park in front of Douglas with Adeyemi or a n other right and Harry left.

Harry is quality and gets the crowd going like no one has in recent years and worth paying money to watch, Clayton had a superb game and while never a goal threat led the line brilliantly and played others in.

Hayes is a footballer but his confidence looks shot as soon as the ball arrives in the box which seems a contagious problem with our forwards which us strange as they never seem to be near enough to each other to pass anything on.

TC looks like the commanding centre back UR wanted and Shay was 9/10 tonight and defended and attacked well.

Not popping corks as despite some really good individual performances including Douglas as the holding midfielder which I didn't expect just like I didn't expect us to score when we get in the final third.

What I do think is this was the lucky win we needed and really hope we kick on and this is the start of the promotion push.

Bees v Coventry Reports

The manager and captain have both now commented on the booing of our own players. Have never understood this tactic of booing or sarcastically cheering my own players. Madness.

Bees v Coventry Reports

Not sure how people can defend Hayes after tonight's showing. He was slow, lazy and couldn't hit a barn door. He is also quite unfit and it was really embarassing.

Bees v Coventry Reports

A deserved win overall, everyone played well except for Hayes who should have scored 2 could have had 3, am getting really concerned about him. A real team effort pulled us through with a little flair from Harry when required. We got a bit of luck with their shot that hit a post, and the pen, but were probably overdue that I believe. Forshaw and Forrester remain the jewels in the crown for me, we must fight to keep them in the transfer window. CD put in a shift as did Dave and Logan. Caught napping for their goal although he took it well however, when you win it covers a multitude of sins. A great team performance. Spencer to start on saturday please. We have to build on this (yes been here before I know), anything less than 3 points on Saturday will be a big dissapointment.

Bees v Coventry Reports

Fair play to Hayes, he astutely noticed we can't hold on to a lead at the moment and made sure we didn't take one until the last possible moment ;)

Bees v Coventry Reports

First of all what a great team performance and character to come back from 1-0 to win 2-1. First time under Uwe we have managed to.

First 15/20minutes we couldn't get going, was pretty even and open game.
We conceded another poor goal, allowed McGoldrick time and space to slot home at near post.

Hayes missed with a chance at the back post which he sliced into the side netting. Also a great header that he headed down which was the right thing to do but was unlucky.

Great work by Forshaw who won the ball deep in our own half and went on an amazing run and played a great ball through to Harry who slotted home very well 1-1.
Gave us a boost before HT.

Again had a couple of good chances second half and was frustrating, at least he was getting into the right place and getting chances. Other games he had gone without even looking like shooting let alone scoring.
Couldn't believe the amount of abuse hurled at him and the ironic cheers when he was subbed. He's our player support him!!

Craig made an excellent tackle/interception late in the second half.

Great work by Clayton on the touch line twice keepin the ball from going out, pass to Forshaw who dribbled well and put a good cross in. Harry was shoved and penalty given. Was wondering who would take it but Harry took the penalty very well, big pressure penalty to win the game in the 93rd minute.

Spencer came on and slotted in really well. Got straight into the thick of it and made things happen. Impressed by him and looks a good signing.

Moore, perhaps beaten easily at his near post but did make a couple of good saves second half.

Logan was excellent. He works hard, makes things happen going forward and can rely on him in defence.

Dean had a nervy 15 minutes but grew into the game and won pretty much all headers.

Craig was solid and made a very good interception at 1-1 to keep it that way.

Forshaw had a very good game, would like to see him in the middle of the park, can be wasted on the right.

Harry took his goal superbly and kept his nerve to convert the penalty in stoppage time.

Donaldson worked his b***ocks off, made things happen, good link up play and some good hold up play and passes.

Hayes had a couple of good chances second half and was frustrating, at least he was getting into the right place and getting chances. Other games he had gone without even looking like shooting let alone scoring.

I'm criticising booing a player who was trying to help, even if not effectively. What on earth is booing going to do to help him start scoring? We only have 3 strikers, we'll be playing him whether we like it or not, and booing isn't going to help turn him into an effective player for us. What I found embarrassing was our treatment of him as he was going off.

Yep agree he was awful but we have to support him. I would start Spencer on saturday and hope that Hayes finds the net soon. We only have 3 forwards of which he is one of them, we have no other choice.

@dougieno8: Good result tonight.. Very disappointing to hear our own fan sarcastically booing and cheering one of our players off.. #inittogether

I will. He was in the right position he should've been in which is what we want. It's getting that goal to give him the confidence to step up and show us what he can do. I really hope it works out for him.

As for the game, it's been said already, poor first 15, Harlee seemed to struggle picking up McGoldrick, disappointed that Moore let it go through his legs from a right angle, but we came back into the game with some good football.

Forshaw, Forrester, Douglas & Logan were outstanding tonight. Let's hope they're all fit and raring to go for another 3 important points.

Really Poor form from bees fans to Hayes, yes he missed chances but the one at the end was hanging too high.he played the link up role pretty well tonight but his confidence is clearly shot infront of goal.cheering him off is out of order

im not being funny but how can you say hayes played well ??????????????????? he wasted THREE sitters that i would have scored and i cant even head a ball.....please tell me that youre joking ???

apart from hayes they all played well and we deserved it even if we made very hard work of it........forrester was immense and god knows what we would do without him....also clayton was good too.....this result could change the whole season ;)

I think most people are frustrated with him because he should be fitter given he's been with us a while now and had match practice. Like all players who wear the shirt we hope he can do something that gets the fans on his side.

As for the game thought the penalty was a bit soft but you take it. We've had players man handled and nothing given.

Not the magic display as of Saturday but its a win and that what counts. Thought Forshaw was outstanding first half he had a quieter second half mainly as they closed him down quicker. Douglas had a fine game.

Bees v Coventry Reports

Great to see us come back from a goal down to win for the first time under Uwe. Really gutsy second half performance and I don't think anyone can have any complaints that we deserved the win.

First half it was looking like "same old, same old" until the excellent goal just before half time. Mainly down to the usual abysmal finishing this time with Hayes being the prime culprit. I don't disagree with those that say he might still offer something but he really needs to do better than that and surely it is time now for Rosler to introduce Spencer into the starting 11 on Saturday. Overall, Clayton the other main firer of blanks, did have an excellent game moreso in the second half but did nearly all of his best work out wide and maybe we need to accommodate him as part of the 4 man midfield rather than relying on him to put the ball in the net. I can't help wondering if it would work better moving Forshaw into the middle (maybe instead of Toumani) and putting Clayton as the wide right man. At the moment both of these players seem to be a bit wasted in the positions they are in. Only doubt there is whether the Centre Mid would be robust enough with Douglas/Forshaw as Forrester surely now has to be the first name on the teamsheet at the top of the diamond.

Agree with those that are suggesting we need to tie Harry down with a longer contract pronto. He will be a hot property very soon and tonight was probably the game in which he came of age as a Bees player. I think he bought the foul for the pen but the defender took the bait and it was a pen nevertheless and he was never going to miss it. Great finish to a terrific second half performance.

Defence did fine and special mention in dispatches to Logan who was excellent. Spencer looked like he has enough about him to justify a start on Saturday although I'm still not convinced that Uwe has a clue what to do with the striker issue. Certainly tonight leaving Hayes on for 75 minutes was at least half an hour too long even if Spencer did have a runny nose ! Strikers are still misfiring and this needs to be sorted quickly if we are to do anything this year.

Onwards and upwards.

Bang out order to boo him off. His confidence in front of goal is clearly low but he got in the positions which is encouraging. I'm sure he will prove his critics wrong as there is quality and pedigree in there. Most were applauding his signing and he hasn't become a bad player overnight. Hopefully one goal will get him going.

I'm pleased to read that Paul Hayes is getting support from the majority of Bees Fans. We all know all Paul needs is that 1st goal, which obviously will do his confidence a power of good.It will come, of that I'm, sure. Keep Plugging away Paul.

The players in it together with the fans? Oh please do one you soft ejits. The players get paid to wear the shirt and most couldn't give two sh*ts about our club. They get a better offer, they jump ship.

Don't understand how people are trying to suggest that I was booing him or condoning it. It was stupid from the fans to boo. I clapped because it was the right decision to make. Whats the point of bringing Spencer in if Rosler doesn't give him a proper chance. It was obvious that Hayes wasn't going to score so why not bring him off earlier? He plays too deep and just doesn't look fit IMO. But hey ho, I'm sure i'll get some more abuse for saying it :)

Bees v Coventry Reports

One of our biggest critics this season but tonight was a good if not very good performance.
Dodgy first twenty mins where I thought 'here we go again' - Coventry walked through and we handed them the lead.
In hindsight as things turned out perhaps this was a blessing as at least Uwe couldn't make changes to 'defend' a lead.

Forshaw was outstanding all night - what a player we have here. He looks the real deal, fantastic balance and was total quality from start to finish.
Forrester got his rewards with the two goals - faultless again - his first goal he made look so easy, stroked the ball past the keeper absolute quality.
Special mention to Logan who I thought took a lot of the pressure off Forshaw and Forrester to allow them the space to shine.

Clayton put in a good shift, some brilliance with the ball - Never looked like scoring but didnt have any clear cut chances so his workrate made up for that this evening.
Hayes was shocking, no need to boo him off as the team played well, but his two chances in the first half were embarrassing - the second half header to be fair was way too high for him to connect properly.
Big shout also to the new lad from Huddersfield who ran his b***ocks off and had some nices touches when he came on - actually thought he took a lot of pressure off us and created chances.

Good game to watch, some nice football mixed up with some long ball which I don't mind and we got our deserves with a last gasp winner again.

Fine line football as what we would be saying if that shot had gone in instead of hitting the post and we lost 1-2 is unsure!

Full marks to their keeper too who was getting dogs abuse at the final whistle but turned round to applaud our support even in defeat - quality.

Apart from the three points, it was good to see 'everyone' chasing every ball and throwing bodies in the line of fire... good night at the office.

Don't they all?? Whether it be Holdsworth, Blissett, Hurlock, Campbell, Forster, etc etc they all move on, for better or worse. But when they're here, 99% of the players deserve our support.

No disrespect but how can you say he was playing too deep? He missed 4-5 chances inside the box

Yeah when we had all our players in their half lol. We was basically playing 4-4-1-1 tonight and at times he was dropping too far back rather than supporting Donaldson a bit more.

Think most of the players named delivered more often than not. Some of the players getting feedback currently have seldom performed, nevermind delivered.

How about some of this current lot cut out playing golf or eating Nandos everyday and get in the gym so they can put a proper shift in. We've seldom had world class players in TW8 but we do appreciate those that try.

He was, because that's how he plays. Still doesn't make up for the fact that he was dropping too deep. Thats how Uwe wants him to play so I guess my real problem is with that desired tactic.

So that means he played crap?
Don't get it. He could have easily scored 3 goals tonight then what would you have said? Just because he missed doesn't mean he played crap. Encouraging that he's getting in the right places to get the chances also. Other games he hasn't looked like shooting let alone scoring.

Bees v Coventry Reports

A deserved win against a strong Coventry side even if they are rather one dimensional. Their number 31 was a handful although he faded second half. Thought Moore might have made himself bigger for their goal.

Some of our play was sublime as usual and the youngsters of Dean, Logan, Forshaw and Harry really shone tonight. Solid games from everyone else, Hayes did OK bar of course several chances which should have given him at least one goal, I think he will come good.

Forshaw and Harry combined to create one of the goals of the season so far from a technical point of view, turning point of the game I thought.

He SHOULD have scored three goals. It's as simple as that. Not being funny but when you're apparently one of the higher earners at the club (I can't confirm that but that's just what I've heard) you should be finishing them chances.

Bees v Coventry Reports

I'm not gonna lie and say i wasn't shouting at Hayes and Uwe for not making changes and missing chances, i was. However I wouldn't dream of cheering off a player and it wasn't just a few either, I would love Hayes to do well for our club.

Ive said it before this season but it is enjoyable watching us play and even if it had stayed at 1-1 tonight I would have taken a lot from this performance. Forshaw and Forrester scare the sh*te out of the opposition and Logan put in a great shift tonight. Apart from the first 15 minutes our midfield bossed the game and for all Clayton's finishing faults he brings so much else to the side and is a constant threat as we go forward.

I don't agree with booing our own players, however I was actually amazed at how many fans in the New Road stood to applaud as Hayes went off. Having said that Ive seen alot of Hayes now and I genuinely do not feel he is good enough to make the starting 11, its not just the missed chances, he is a yard behind the pace of the game, he wins very little in the air for a pretty big unit, his touch is not great and of most concern he can't get close enough (lack of pace/awareness) to feed off the work Clayton does. I don't think we can afford to discard him, but he is a squad player maybe coming on for the last 10-15 minutes and starting some of the cup games, it might take the pressure of getting his first goal for us and if he does bag a couple some confidence may grow? I would start Spencer on Saturday. Longer term Id like Uwe to try Forrester playing just off Clayton (maybe try it in the JPT game at Southend).

Still convinced we are going to hand out some hammerings this season
