Ben made his Academy League debut for the Under-17s on August 26th 2000 at Blackburn Rovers, scoring in a 3-1 defeat. He finished the season as top scorer with 13 league goals as well as recording a single strike in an Under-19 outing.
Ben has continued to make good progress with the U19s and broke through to play for Joe McLaughlin's reserve side during the 2001/2 campaign before making his full senior debut at Gillingham in August 2002 and scoring his first League goal the following week at home to Ipswich Town. Throughout the season, Ben has continued to appear for the senior side with five First Team starts already under his belt, and his performances have all shown a remarkable degree of promise, assurance, and increasing confidence. Prior to joining The Lions, Ben played for Fulham.

2 goals in 18 preofessional starts. I'm willing to be convinced but seems 'being tall' is all he's got. (Go on sunshine, score and prove me wrong, I like apologising).:)

Another 18 year old kid being sent out to do a mans job, That reduces the average age even further, what does Wally think he's doing, does he want to be the first manager to field an under 19 team in the Football League and go down with nil points.

Get rid of him, he's useless

If we must insist on playing kids what's wrong with Mark Peters?
I'm worried that "being tall" is the reason we've signed him.
Will we have to take telescopes to games to keep sight of the ball?
On maybe it's part of the deal Brentford have with the London Broncos. We have to keep the ball of the grass so that the pitch is in good condition for the "Egg Chasers"

It is another excuse for Wally not to play the unknown Peters.

All the time Wally is in charge, Peters will not get a chance to prove or disprove his ability.

Unfortunatly the time has come for Mark to put in his transfer request.

10 minutes at Tranmere, 15 minutes at Wrexham. He will not prove himself in a couple of short term sub appearances, he needs 5 or 6 starts.

Give Peters half the chance that Mac was given and we will see at least twice as many goals (not a difficult target).

So how long should we be expected to wait for a reply to our texts then Mark?
I was feeling in a generous mood this morning so I replied to the email. I waited half an hour with no reply. Then I thought maybe CLUB BREN GOLD had to be in block caps for it to work so I sent another text. Nearly an hour later an still no reply to either text.
I log onto this website and find out in 30 seconds.
The words pi$$ up and brewery spring to mind.

You had to send a text message with the words CLUB BREN GOLD to the telephone number 88442 on your mobile phone - not reply to the email... :rolleyes:

Sorry Mark I've just read what I posted again and it does sound as though I've sent an email.
I have in fact sent two text messages to 88442 without a reply to either........so you can take that smug look of your face!!

surely havin someone lanky up front will mean tht the wally will be tempted to play the long ball game, which will mean we will be in div. 3 faster than you can say pass and move

Thought May had a good first game for us, got into quite a few good goalscoring positions and we didn't play the long ball game ,we played a passing game which suprised me. I found it odd when the team was read out by PG he did not inform the crowd as to where Ben had come from ,as nobody around me had a clue. :eek:

He did Ok, more skill on the ball than Marky Mac and looked decent in the air as a target man ( something Peters will never be). He allowed Rougier more room to show his silky skills.

At this moment we suddenly have a bit of decent competition for places, with Tabb, Hunt, Peters and Roget all off the starting lineup today.

I thought he was average today, hopefully he has more in the bag.

Positive - Has potential, good header of the ball, and has a good touch, can also hold the ball up well.

Negatives - No real pace (might not be match fit tho) Gave away needless fouls today

He seems better with the ball at his feet than in the air. He wont win many headers by pushing at defenders. When he had some time and space on the ball he linked up well with midfield. Obviously needs time to train with the team.

What a stupid comment to make before the lad had even put on a red and white shirt. I thought he had quite an assured debut, considering he probably didn't even know his team-mates' names.

You just can't please some people can you? People whinge that we need to sign a new striker and then when we do they are slagging him off before he has even played a game. Just exactly what kind of player do you expect to get with our wage cap?

I thought May looked fine today considering he'd been thrown in without as much as a training session with the lads. He was in the right place at the right time and worked hard. Yes he needs to settle and I thought he looked a bit slow at times but all in all I was pretty pleased with him. It's the first time in ages that we looked as though we had something up front.

So come on all you moaners, get behind the boy and give him a chance!! :D

Agree Ed, he looked quite confident and, given that this was his first game I was quite imprssed. Though as he was a forward we should, on present form, have played him as subsitute keeper:)

He did look knackered towards the end, so of course, Tony Rougier was substituted :)

If we'd been 3-1 down towards the end we would defo have seen Mr Peters. I still think he's got a lot to offer especially now that Hutch has worked out that 'head-on-ball' at corners = goal.

However, welcome Mr May. I didn't realise you we're so young!

At least he gave us a physical presence alongside Rougier and won a few balls in the air. He needs to work on his timing a bit but it was a reasonable debut for a teenager

He could be a useful addition for us.

Has a decent size but isn't bulky, when he's match fit he might have a burst of pace to take him past defenders.

Was nice to see someone looking to bring the midfield into play.
With Tabb in the centre of the park and Rougier running off a big target man we might have a good combination.

Thought May did very well for his first game for us. A few good knock-ons, a couple of nice bits of footwork.

Speed a problem? Looked faster than Burgess was.

The big plus was that he attacked the ball - on several occasions when the ball looked too far away he threw himself at it in the hope of connecting.

So what if he isn't the finished item yet? I reckon if we can do a BBB and Siddy with him, we could yet do fairly well this year: he gives us another outball.

He's been out for 6 weeks injured which will explain that lack of sharpness. Knowing this I think he will be a good signing if we can keep him for longer than the initial month. A bit more fitness some training with the rest of the team and I think he will come good. I also think Peters will be a good player to have on the bench and bring on when we need to get a goal.

Surely the need for a goal is from the start to the finish. More goals equal more victories.
However Rougier & May, could be a decent partneship. A dont forget Beadles about again soon.

I'd quite happilly see beadle out of the door and his wages moved to securing the services of rougier for the season. Am i too negative but when he was subbed did it look like a 'goodbye wave'?
Think May will do well with rougier, amazing what a difference it makes to have 2 forwards who can worry opposition defences!

how beadle would have relished the service from rougier on sat.he stood up several crosses from the left that a natural target man would be begging for.and especially for mayenne bee a john o'mara type

Exactly so now we have forwards who will start who could be a threat and can come off the bench and be a threat.

i thought he did alright.maybe peters and rougier would be the best partnership though-they didnt seem that bad against peterborough although never really looked like scoring.
the strikers position now looks quite good with:rougier,peters,may,tabb,oconnor,harrold and blackman.
we could do with an experienced midfielder though-it was interesting what tabb said about fullarton in the programme.

Agreed. He probably needs to get that run of games going in the first team again to get that form back as I thought he looked out of his depth again against QPR (even though he still should have got us a draw).

May and Tabb would be a decent partnership IMHO.

They were starting to play well together before May's suspension,and I'm sure they can recapture that.

If Wright signs too we'll be laughing.

Looks like a very lazy piece of journalism to me as the writer should know he's with the U20 squad for a month. If they didn't want him cup tied they'd tell us he couldn't play in the cup, surely?

Have we actually signed Ben May till the end of the season or not if so what do people think.He has been with the club for awhile now can he prove his worth with the bees.
