played ok. (but Chelsea had a winger, Stoch, who was tricky in the first 20 mins, Moore did a takle on him and wasn't seen again till 2nd half on the right wing.) But Starosta played solid enough for me.

Ben Starosta thread

Looked promising, quick, full or energy and liked to get forwards. Reminded me a bit of Danny Boxall before he got injured.

A quote from my mate...

Starosta has just returned from u20 world cup duty with Poland and
apparently he did well. Reports that I have heard say that he is a tidy
player, not the most extravagant but that isn't a bad thing for a defender.

Here is a post from the message board that I go on reviewing his performance
in the world cup:

"Not sure if you folks saw the game, it was live here (Canada). He played
well. Looks awkward but nobody got by him (and there is real talent on that
Brazilian team), his passing was good, and he was able to get buy players
when going forward. I look forward to watching his next game."

I don't know much but I'll be sure to keep a keen eye on his progress if he
makes the temporary switch to GP.

After the initial run around by Stocha he improved well and had a very impressive game. :sorted:

FFSAKE. The lad has just lost his mother who had been ill for a long time, and you stil continue the abuse :nono:

He has had other problems as well so why not let him get on with it, we know he is a good right back and he will retun to form.

Really glad to see The Butcher making use of the loan system to bring in up and coming youngsters from teams in leagues above us. Hopefully he will be a star for the bees. :sneakoff:

Good signing I believe. No one can can accuse TB or AS of sitting on there 'arris. WElcome aboard Ben.

Peanuts, is what I was told. I was wondering whether he could afford to live down here on peanuts, but perhaps there's a room for him above the Princess Royal? :fishing:

Peanuts might only be part of his salary and Sheff Utd stump up the remainder. He has recently signed a 2 year contract with them, so maybe they see this loan as a benefit to them in the longer term.
Butcher is good mates with Bryan Robson, so what with his obvious Ipswich contacts too, we are at last seeing a manager with better contacts to get good deals within the loan system. :fishing:

Sheffield United's links to Staines might be helpful with arranging accommodation

Seriously lads this is a good signing for us. I have seen Starosta play before and let me tell you he will improve us. He is a very fit player and will get down the side of the pitch for the whole 90 min. He needs to improve a lot defensively but I’m sure Butcher will look forward to this.
I think Butcher sees O’Connor as a midfield option and to be honest I don’t see what is wrong with that

Yes, for all our impatience, think with this 10th( ) signing today, we have got the basis of a very strong team. Get the balance right and we should do Ok this season. Well done TB and AS, you seem to have done well with your signings......although I would have liked to have kept Abbey

Ben Starosta thread

good signing.

we now have a good blend of experienced journeymen and youthful wannabees.

Agree, midfield looks fairly strong and Starosta with Basey makes the full backs look good. weakest areas are probably centre backs and a tiny bit upfront. I wonder if O'Connor can play upfront again :fishing:

Says on the player profiles on the OS that he's on loan from Tamworth ???
Unless he's on loan to them and is now an on loan loanee - if you get what I mean.

That part is provided by PA, who are often wrong, as they are in this case.

TW1, I was going to ask the same question / make the same observation.

Also he was on 'trial' now 'loan' ---- but from whom ?

How do Tamworth get into the mix --- makes the Tevez move seem clear cut.

Peter Gilham, any explanation?

Ben Starosta thread

Suspect this was an error as I think he was on loan to Tamworth last season

You can choose to believe me, or you can choose to ignore me. If you ignore me you will be waiting longer for someone to give you the same, and right, answer

Couple of Poles sat behind me at the Southampton game. Had come to see him. When I somewhat embarrassingly couldn't point him out, but said thats Rasiak, I was told curtly "yes I know, but we've come to see Starosta".

Any chance of building the Polski fan club, and getting some Zloty's in the club? :sorted:

i doubt it i heard some racist remarks to one of the asian stewards today

Do you mean you heard it from a Polish supporter, so they're not going to be wanted as supporters, or from a Brit meaning that no foreigners are wanted? If it's the former, while you could ban the guy who said it, I wouldn't want to discourage all Poles as a result

Ben Starosta thread

If we are going to have a year of consolidation, we need to sign the likes of Starota, Basey & Moore.

Worth a punt from Mr Benham?:fishing: :fishing:

Of course, Ireland uses the Euro now, but even considering that I don't think we'll get much for such a small amount ;)

Ben Starosta thread

Not wishing to tar all the Poles with the same brush, especially as i'm half Polish myself, living in Poland you do hear some 'interesting' comments on the streets of Warsaw regarding people who have different colour skin.

Mind you Warsaw and Poland will have to get used to it. Tons of Vietnamese and other assorted Asian groups in Poland now.

.................good lad......................

I think this chap has been very good recently. I'd be very happy to see him sign longer term. :)

Ben Starosta thread

Sounds like we're Poles apart on this one then.

I wouldn't say so, if he was available I'd certainly consider signing him.

However I wouldn't be rushing out to add an extra right back to our squad if I'm honest, even one that has played well more often than not in a Brentford shirt.

Ben Starosta thread

He's had more ups than downs but has had some bad days. Coming forward he looks the biz but he does need to polish up his defending.
