just saw his challenge on pedro mendes on motd, and I am disgusted. that is one of the most disgraceful challenges I have ever seen. he is a disgrace, and a violent thug. he should receive a huge ban for that.

Was just going to make a comment on this - cowardly - not man to man. That was just an assault. Should get a really lengthy ban - far worse to me than the Cantona incident for example.

Quite agree, bigmac.

Throughout his career he has seemed oblivious to the duty of care that all footballers owe to each other, and had he worked in the world that most of us inhabit, his antics could well have landed him in court on occasion.

I have a nasty feeling, that because the ref booked him, there can be no further action taken, unless of course Mendes pursues him in a civil action.

Ben Thatcher is a nasty little sh*t. You could see he was going only for Mendes, it was made even worse that Mendes had only just kicked the ball - its like someone punching you whilst stretching, really annoying.

That was a disgusting challenge, and he seemingly done it for no apperent reason, its a disgrace if he doesn't get anything over a five game ban, because if he done that on the Street he'd be in a lot more trouble than that!! There should be no place for it in football let alone anywhere, FA need to come down hard on him if you ask me...

Mendes is the second player to be hospitalised by our hero this season, the first being a Shanghai player with a punctured lung in a match on City's Chinese pre-season tour.

Thatcher is a disgrace, hope the c*** is banned for a very long time. I think that challenge was the worst i have ever seen on a football pitch. Other players get sent off for over celebrating a goal or taking their shirt off and he stays on the pitch after that.

Now is the time for football clubs to show some balls. If, due to already being booked he cannot be prosecuted further, Man City should impose a three game ban and a fine (maybe giving the money to charity) with Thatcher having to make a public apology.

That picture is when he was a Womble.

Nothing can be done about last night now as he got a yellow card the same as Michael Brown did for his shocker on Ryan Giggs on Sunday. The rules need to be changed.

Thatcher is a thug and should be banned for 15 years. Stuart Pearce won't be the man I thought he was if he doesn't get rid of Thatcher PDQ. But then Pearce is a QPR fan so...

a bit extreme...for an assault on the street you would just get a caution, however it's not his first offence, by a long way..so he might go down for 9 months (out in 4 !)

I think the FA will give him a 6 game ban.....should be more, but wont be...

So the most talented player this country has is given a three game ban for attempting to win a header in a friendly and yet this talentless thug escapes with a yellow for what is nothing less than an assault. The FA can **** off and take there unfinished wembley and foreign coaches with them!

Well he should be banned by the FA anyway, and while they are at perhaps they can quiz Dermot Gallagher as well!!

Not only did he deem that challenge only worthy of a yellow card, he missed a blatant handball in the penalty area when standing less than ten yards away for it!

Bet Keith Hackett is really pleased he went to such lengths persuading Gallagher not retire from refereeing at the end of last season.

I know Thatcher got only a yellow last night .. but compare it to Rooneys dodgy red in Amsterdam few weeks back and the FA gave him a 3 game ban .. Thatchers assault was 10 times worse .. how about a 30 game ban ? :idea:

And to make it worse .. the way he just walked away unintrested in Mendes' welfare :(

a) He looks for Mendes and targets him as he runs across
b) Mendes seems out cold before he hits the adrvert boards
c) He mouths F**k Off to Glenn Johnson and just walks off!!

Watching the four different angles on the clip above you can see six photographers were sitting two yards away from the tackle and not one had the camera ready to take the sports photo of the day.

Where's Chapman when you need him?

and he was even mouthing off to Gallagher, whilst getting booked....is he really that stupid to think he would get away with it scot free ?

Be interesting to see how Man City deal with this. Pearce was a great player, hard as nails but always fair, never intentionally went to "do" someone as Thatcher clearly did (and has form in the past for similar).... :wave:

Having refereed parks football many years ago that tackle would have caused a mass brawl.
Without doubt the match would have been abandon as the treatment needed for the injured player would not have been available, the chances are he may well have died.
Thatcher should be charged with assault as he would have if it had been at a lower level of football and to try and prevent this sort of behaviour happen again.

Thatcher got a yellow card and the Swindon idiot who applauded the ref's decision to give him a yellow got a second yellow for clapping his hands. At times this game seems devoid of any sense, doesn't it?

Their cameras were probably telephoto 400-500mm and therefore could not focus that near to the action. :wave:
