BFC Academy

A great thing to read! Good posts like this really do remind us that we've got something good going on at the club, even if on the pitch stuff is faultering a bit it does put that into perspective. Our future's bright :sorted:

BFC Academy

Yep, absolutely fantastic news and enormous thanks to those that made it possible. The futures bright, and it aint orange its red and white!!!

BFC Academy

Great stuff, thanks everyone who helped make it happen.

Great news, I presume we have found somewhere for the indoor training facilities as I believe that was one of the stumbling blocks to gaining Academy status. Anyone know where?

"The clubs with higher rated Academies will gain more funding from the FA and Premier League" - Is there a rough figure or guidline as to what the difference will be? Will it be substantial income in the long run given the EPPP?

Having a category two will obviously benefit us, but with the EPPP, where Premier League teams can Dyson up our promising talent on the cheap, how easy would it be to keep our promising players gained through this extra investment?

BFC Academy

Good news. I agree about the EPPP ruling - a disgrace imo - but hopefully young players will see the opportunity of 1st team football as a major attraction & we will be selling that.

So many promising youngsters disappear into Premier academies & never seem to resurface.

BFC Academy

Don't teams get more money in compensation with better academies....

"There will be a fixed tariff dependent on how long a player has been at the selling club. For example, the fee is fixed at £3,000-per-year for a player's development from nine to 11-years-old. The fee from 12 to 16 will depend on a club's academy status but will range from £12,500 to £40,000."

So yes, in theory

@hobbsy_3 yes, we've found somewhere to build the facility, but can't say too much more at present.

So nice shiny new facility, good stuff! :sorted:

Been researching into this, means we'll be pumping at least 969k per year into this! Good to see how seriously we're taking the youth investment.

Category 1

  • The top level category will require clubs to have an approximate budget of £2.325m.
  • Have a full time staff of at least 18.
  • Provide at least 5 hours contact time with players each week.
  • The current 90 minute travel rule will not apply.
Category 2

  • Clubs that cannot meet the required budget requirements and staff levels demanded by Category 1, but still have an indoor training facility will most likely fall into this category.
  • They will spend less time coaching players each week.
  • Will be allowed to take players from age 4 and sign players from the age of 9.
  • Will require an estimated budget of £969k
  • The current 90 minute travel rule will not apply.
Category 3

  • Clubs in this category will not be permitted to coach youngsters until they are 11
  • Will require an estimated budget of £315k
Category 4

  • Clubs in this category will be used to pick up youngsters that are late developers or have been released from other Academies or Centres of Excellence. Players will be 16 years of age or above.
  • Will require an estimated budget of £100k
Compensation Fees for each year of development

Age 9 to 11 – £3000 for players registered at any club

Age 12 to 16 – £12,500 for players registered at a Category 3 club

Age 12 to 16 – £25,000 for players registered at a Category 2 club

Age 12 to 16 – £40,000 for players registered at a Category 1 club

Player Age Groups

Foundation – Age 9 to 11

Youth – Age 12 to 16

Pro – Age 17 to 21

I understand also Category 1 has residential and non-football education as part of the facilities, which I think is what Watford have.

BFC Academy

Great news to read
Could never imagine us being in this position.
Future looks bright :)

Heard rumours an indoor facility is being built at Uxbridge High School for our academy to use but as I say, just a 'rumour'.

BFC Academy

Would be great to see homegrown tallent come through the ranks and progress.

BFC Academy

This is great news. If this was a bad news story we'd be on page four of the thread already. Category 2 is a big deal for us, because it means we can draw young players from further afield and our youngsters will be more expensive to poachers under that dreaded new plan.

It is one of the most exciting undertakings of this football club, but it wont be cheap.

Brentford were using the facilities at Uxbridge Athletics track, the signs are still up all over there but dont know if its still being used

Wonder how many sides in league 1 will have Category 2 or above? Not many I would surmise. This is great news

Ithink we now realise the full impact that the people who run Brentford football club are making. What a trully exciting future is in store for this club and puts into perspective why many people have called for patience in the short term. I like all of you have experienced decades of underinvestment and underacheivement and now as I approach my twighlight years I can look forward to a club who can make a serious impact and we know who we can thank for his future vision for this club

BFC Academy

This may offer a sustainable future for Brentford Football Club rather than just existing and lurching from one crisis to another. Sorry for using the word 'may', but I have seen more a than few false dawns over the last 50 years.

I regularly comment on where the next icons of BFC will come from and lament our repetitive signing of players on short term loans. The development of our own players is dream that I really hope will come true. Maybe it will result in Brentford FC becoming the Barcelona of more than just the lower leagues.

Iv'e heard the same rumour and only a few miles from the school Watford use in Harefield.

You'll get oldbee66 started now. Maybe they could have a school exchange trip.

BFC Academy

Fantastic news, a real statement of intent!

Well done to all involved.

BFC Academy

Watford use The Harefield Academy and a number of players from the school have actually progressed through the Watford Academy successfully. Uxbridge High is apparently also converting to an 'academy' which is one reason we would be using the site. I know that youth footballers around the area are posted leaflets about Watford/Harefield, would be good to soon see the same about Brentford soon.

If this was a bad news story we'd be on page four of the thread already.

GPG can't stand good news. Rumour is that many members are joining the wikipedia blackout against Brentford FC making a good decision.

It is one of the most exciting undertakings of this football club, but it wont be cheap.

A good chance it will prove better value than buying non-league strikers at £500k a piece. Although, the EPPP plans are an absolute disgrace, and show capitalism digging the knife even further into football.

BFC Academy

Excellant news.

Thanks and well done to all involved in this.

BFC Academy

This is a huge commitment to our youth system and everyone involved deserves massive credit IMO. To think that we'll be running an Academy on a level with those proposed by some Premier League Clubs is incredible.

BFC Academy

The more I think about this the better it becomes.Hoping for some cracking fixtures next season and a friendly with Celtic too.Play that at GP please.

BFC Academy

I was at the Hillingdon Sports and Leisure Complex (Uxbridge Lido) last night and it is covered with Brentford Academy signs. The 3g astroturf had some pretty intense training sessions going on and the standard seemed very high from the little I saw.

BFC Academy

I am proud to say this is the most un-"its brentford innit" move by this club in the 50 years I've supported them.
