Rumours are that Chelsea are scaling down their youth activities. My son has a game at Cobham on Wednesday, I will try and find out more.

Also Epsom Eagles U14s the best team in South West London area and of the top teams in London are going to an academy, don`t know if it is BFC though.

Am I right in thinking that with us going to Category 2, we can get players as young as 9?

If so, there is a 9 year old we need to take a look at that I witnessed tonight. He was simply unbelievable and by far the best talent I've seen from anyone under 11 years of age at least and not only that, I understand before tonight he has never played in a 'competitive' match. A little work on his 'team play' and he will go far.
He showed excellent skill and technique, enthusiasm and commitment... Although 5 a side football doesn't show much in terms of what position the lad would play in, I would probably guess he is more of an attack minded midfielder. He played against an under 10 team tonight and scored 3 goals and managed to not only comfortably tackle them, but brush past them to create attacking opportunities for his team mates - when he remembered he can pass the ball, his only flaw (though he did pass the ball many a time, there were a few moments he 'forgot').

wycombe close their youth system, partly due to the new eppp system

But mainly because of the supporters trust hoping to gain control. So their budgets need cutting. As would happen here if MB wasn't around funding it all.

So pleased the youth system has changed over the years, I was with brentford from the age of ten til I was released at the age of 16, there was no competitive league structure, just the odd game every other sat morning, vs local teams ie Chelsea , arsenal, barnet, ect, when your this age I think it's important for a league to be in place, its all about wanting to win and be the best!

Did you get any sort of reply from the club ? i dont mean they would send you on going reports, , but just a thanks we will look into it sort of reply

Yes, actually had a few emails worth of conversation. I understand that they are sending someone to the next round of matches to watch him, and have also contacted the league I officiate in too for more details.

i think we have a facility in Uxbridge or Hillingdon...someone who has a son signed to the Bees was telling me

i recently had a trip to uxbridge swimming pool and there are signs everywhere saying brentford academy they have 3g pitches there but i dont think there is indoor facilities , i saw this around 2 months ago and presumed it was to do with a deal they had with uxbridge high school !1 now it all adds up

BFC Academy

Congrats to one and all involved.....

As a fan for more than 40 years it really is cheering to believe we are now looking forward and not back.

its right to get all clubs to up their youth set ups with grants but its easier for those at the top to sort it and theyll get the bigger grants, again accomodating the big clubs more.without sir MB we would be very low down,we are lucky

Your right mate were very lucky. The way the FA and Prem will provide more funding for the Grade 1 and 2 academies as opposed to Grade 3 and 4 is a blatent attempt to keep the rich, rich and the poor, poor. The system seems broken (and it hasnt even started yet) but from a selfish point of view Brentford are so lucky to have the funding of Benham which enables us to benefit and make the most of this new system.

the smaller grades should get a higher,if not more, annual grant than the higher grades to give them a chance, the grant can only be used on the yts so it gives them a chance of progressing and more imprtantly survivng

Great news for now and the future. Friend of mine's son was due to start at Crawley this season, but they've gone for Cat 4. Considering the money they've thrown about, thats very short sighted.

Exactly why theyll go tits up sooner rather than later.with all that Money, youd think theyd look at the bigger picture..i dontsee many of their fans questioning

Barnet are also Cat 2.

I think fans need to very patient as this may take 5 - 10 years to reap the benefits. You only have to look how many years we are behind Watford.

Anyway this is a fantastic first step and when you compare us to Yeovil at Cat 4, we are so lucky to have MB gifting BFC funds.

Is there a list anywhere that states all the clubs in each category? Would be interesting to see who is where in the scheme of things.

Very interesting article in today's Sunday People. States we have sold or rather been tapped by Ipswich Town for Fabrice Muamba's 14 year old brother Daniel who is regarded to be heading for a great career in the game and sold him for £4000.Would be a crying shame if this is correct as £4000 is a very small price for someone who has such great potential.

Only 2 roads away from my gaff.
Right in the heart of QPRville.
love it, now the local press should feature the Bees once in a while.
Good news for Hillingdon and BFC !!

well done to all concerned. it would have been a kick in MBs teeth if his investment hadn't received the backing of the inspectors.

now we just need the manager to show a bit more faith in our own youngstersand chuck them in the deep end from time to time.

no point in having an excellent academy if the players aren't given enough opportunities.

ps as a complete aside, agar was thrown in the deep end by australia in the test and did quite well! he was playing club cricket to the west of london a month ago.
