BFC Set-up Development Squad

Seems a triallist currently only known as Vrancic featured. A quick google suggests it could be Mario Vrancic, a 23y.o German midfielder or Damir Vrancic, a 25 year old Bosnian midfielder.

Website says he's Estonian could be wrong though

Will play 10 games this season.

7 at GP which is open to the public and 3 at the training ground.

Max Herbert (ex Wycombe?) has tweeted that he has joined Brentford. Think he played centre midfield against Hampton & Richmond. Looked a very good prospect.

I suspect there will be something on the OS soon confirming who is in the Dev squad this year...

I know it is old news but the development league we are in (all southern level 2 academies i believe) looks strong and should really help our youngsters progress. Once again a massive thank you to Sir Benham of Brentford.

Agreed on all counts. I really hope 2-3 of the lads start to come through and push for a first team place this season. Mawson and Redwood are the outstanding candidates for this progression given what I saw pre-season.

Myles Hippolyte seems to get regular good reports. A long way from first team I would imagine but hopefully one we can nurture

Does anyone know what happened with the dev squad and the youth team matches vs Millwall? Photos on the OS but can't find any match reports.

I think it's because we've sort of rolled it into the academy system - we seem to now have an U18 and U21 side.

I think the actual League is called the Professional U21 Development Football Academy League by the FA under the EPPP.

only pleased we are investing so much money in yoof if the management are prepared to give younger players a look-in rather than buying in lots of journeymen.

if the policy is for experience, the academy is a waste of MB's hard earned.

compromise maybe - a few young jewels with a few older heads ?

Give it time. The Academy is barely up and running yet and will take time to produce. There's little point blindly asking for the development squad players to be included without any idea of whether they're ready yet. Leave that to the management who see them day in day out.

And as for your point about lots of journeymen, it's just plain wrong. How do Forrester, Dallas, Forshaw, and Dean fall into that category ?

I think he possibly had Craig and Barron in mind OW.

Totally agree with your point regarding the Development squad and the time needed to bear fruit but I do believe he has a point in that we'll only find out if they are good enough if they are given an opportunity in the first team. I believe that there was a strong case for given Redwood an opportunity at Left back at Walsall instead of playing an out of position right back. Redwood impressed greatly pre-season. I'll be very interested to see the progress of Mawson, Reeves, Redwood, Oyeleke this season- all players one might expected to see pushing for the first team squad.

It will be several years before the new youth set up filters through to good quality players for senior football unless we are very lucky. Until then the Developmnet squad will probably be a mixture of our own but mainly young(ish) players from other clubs.

Playing untried young players reqires a leap of faith on behalf of any manager which often they are reluctant to do. It will be interesting to see what UR does as we seem to have a few knocking on the door.

It would be interesting to have a consolidated list of games played, won etc. On the face of it , it is pretty dire. In the circs, are we actually developing anyone? It should be a feeder route but at this rate , in terms of results, is it of benefit?

The fixture lists for the U-18's and U-21's matches are listed in the programme. They are in Southern Area Dev Leagues. Some matches may be arranged if players need game time after injuries etc.
