I hope not, I like to refer to mine during the game when checking on oppo players I don't know.
Don't like the oppo profiles anymore though, one line telling me he is from Belgium and played 6 times last season is not in the slightest bit useful or insight IMHO. Much preferred previous seasons format.

I would say the programmes are of a high standard. Some weekly features that are always worth a read.

Have same problem. Print is so small. Warbs column in yesterday's issue is almost unreadable without 20:20 vision!!

The Brighton programme had a good section on us, much more about our players than ours ever has about our opponents.

Agree, what's annoying is every other bit of our programme has improved but that section is now just a list of all squad numbers and one sentence about where they were born or how many games they've played.

To be fair though, there's about eight pages about Middlesborough in the latest, even if one of those is essentially five bullet points and a big photo.

It's the players I'm interested in reading about and now apart from the 4 big photos and biogs the rest of the squad is not worth reading.

As a matter of interest, I just pulled out a random programme (from 2004) and there's a little more player info but not much more. Also, if you only profile four players there's a good chance at least one of them might not be playing. And the way things are it's likely the manager will have changed between the printing and the actual match, as happened with ours v Brighton in the cup, which profiled Nathan Jones. It must be a nightmare for the people putting it together. My personal preference would be to have more match reviews, not just a picture story. It's dwindled from a review with photos, then photos with captions, and now it's just the photos. Not that the photos aren't good, it's just it would be good to have a match report of some sort.

Look at last years programme format and would tell me for example vs Swindon about the 4 Spurs youngsters on loan and where the current squad numbers had played before and when they joined.
Anyway all about opinions and as I say I like the programme but would like more stats and info on the oppo squad that we used to get.

I always buy one but have two criticisms of this season's prog.
1. Too many pictures of U-18 & u21 games. I'd rather there was something to read.
2. Seems very rigid and samey every week. I would prefer some off-beat or at least varied articles about brentford or anything generally football related.
The history of the town of Brentford being an example of what I mean but perhaps with a touch of humour..

My bit will not be part of the programme next season, you can only take it so far! Time for a change or something new.

I haven't bought a programme since becoming PC literate. Much more info on the GPG or even the OS so what's the point? Still buy TiTs though when out - much prefer it to Beesotted which I don't rate as much - Sorry!

You can only show so much! It can get a little 'samey' at times, difficult to keep it fresh, but it was enjoyable to do, even if some of it has been seen before. It was my wish to end it too.

Something else will be on the cards next season. That's if I can get my backside into gear!!

I can see why it's a tough job being a programme editor. Collating all the articles from other contributors, writing most of it and researching the away team and local history. Plus trying to add something different and fresh. There aren't that many writers willing to contribute, especially on a regular basis. I know Nick Bruzon and Billy Reeves had columns in the past, to supply something different to the norm. It's tough though, creating at least 23-25 articles a season is hard going.

I'm sure next seasons will be an improvement on this one, which was also an improvement on the year before.

I'm sure Mark/rebus will read this and take onboard ideas and improvements etc

With regard the question, are the days of such a thing - a programme - numbered? I don't think so, not yet anyway.

The majority of programmes are larger, page wise, to accommodate adverts, which pays for the thing for the most part. Articles from the manager, CEO, marketing, ticketing, the football trust, the reserves and youth, the visitors, the player interview and the stats pages, are always needed, IMO. Articles from other sources and slightly off the wall pieces, adds something a little different. History of the club, pictures, players from the past and memorabilia, are nice to see too. A programme still has its place.

I think the southern/London sides still sell the most, you'd be surprised at some of the low print runs for some of the championship clubs.
I'm sure, one day, the programme may revert back to an 8 or 16 pager....... Like the good old days. No glossy pictures, no glossy paper, just the basics.

I appreciate the time and effort involved and maybe there is only so much that can be used, but the attraction is that it's one of the sections that you have no idea what you will find when you go to the page. Pleased there's something else to take it's place next year.

I was told earlier in the season, but cannot remember the figures exactly now. It's around the 2500 I think. Some top championship sides only produce 1500-2000, even though they get better crowds than us.

It always is - I read it at home.

Quite why it has to be printed in small white print on a black background I fail to understand. On Saturday the white print was even more difficult to read than usual.

I always wonder why we use the smaller page size compared to other clubs. Maybe it's a more "handy" size to hold on a match day but economically print costs and paper wastage are far less if you go larger to a size like he Brighton programme, which also means you can get more info in on each page. Pretty sure this is the case with most printers as the larger size fits their presses better with less wastage.

I think the design is pretty mundane. I only tend to get to southern away games but the variety/(non-match) photography/typography and layout has been much more appealing in programmes like Brighton, or maybe Orient last year. Also definitely agree on not being keen on the all too brief run down on opposition players. I only really buy it now for my son who rushes to the next player photo for the wall in the centre page. I was greeted with a furious outburst when he opened it up queueing to go into the Boro game to see a pic of the ground along with a list of fixtures he could also read again at the back of the programme!

Agreed SOB. I like more info on the opposition, most of the away programmes I have have really comprehensive coverage of the Bees.

I got a bit confused looking at the old 1937 black and white action pic ! Did anyone else notice that the goal end is clearly the Royal Oak but the other is obviously Braemar Road and not the New Road as one would have believe given its orientation. If you hold the page up to the light and back to front it's clear the pic was originally printed with the negative back to front. You can just make out that the wording on the advertising hoardings is back to front.

A few days later, I had a good read and was well worth the 3 quid.
I posted the Rotherham one off with a match ticket to a young relative of mine, it was her first ever footy match.

I always buy a programme - read some prior to the game and the rest on the trains home.

Always read Around the Hive, Manager's column, M Devlin page, opposition pages - briefly (all before the match) Player Interviews, all historical features, plus a quick study of the stats/fixtures /appearances for the season are read on the way home. So maybe I read 70-75% of it.

It's an fairly important part of match day to me. The pics and layout are good, the size is easy to fit in jacket pocket and not bad value at £3. Reading it on-line would not be the same at all. Well done Chris, Mark and the rest of the contributors.

Less repeating of news that has already been on the Official Site
Less long reports about Development Squad/ Academy games. Most games could be summed up in a couple of paras rather than a page
More Academy News
Less, less, less of the endless pages of photos. They are just space fillers and tell us nothing
More stats - e.g. career appearances, goals etc
More memorabilia, club history etc
Dev Squad/U18 League tables. I know winning these leagues is not necessarily a club objective. But a league table every now and again will do no harm
