Potential rail strike(s) on April 1 (All Fool's day!). I'll be ordering a coach ticket at the same time as my match ticket. Normally drive to Lewes and train from there.

Strikes are off ?

Assuming the RMT strike is on then there should still be a service every half hour VIC-BTN.

Last return journey though will depart circa 6pm and probably there won't be any trains to/from Falmer.

If ASLEF decide to join the party then we're fcuked :(

Park in Lewes and catch the train to Falmer, train travel free with match day ticket and you miss all the queues at Brighton.
This isn't the travel thread but seeing as the comment is here....

I thought we weren't expecting any trains to run through Falmer due to the strike...? Just London to Brighton?

My dad says there's a handy local bus from Lewes to the ground, though.

Parking if you drive?
parked in the uni last time we played on boxing day, nightmare getting in and they had over booked the car park.
although not sure you can park there again, I think it was opened up due to it being boxing day 8pm.

best off parking at a station and training it in

No idea, will be in Brighton all weekend, will make a decision on Friday once know for sure about trains, but sounds like a nightmare. There are lots of good bus routes, but not if 000's are trying to use them!

Just done some detective work on ontimetrains.co.uk

Brighton v Spurs was on Saturday 8th October I think at 17:30, a day of an RMT strike.

Per that website there were Victoria to Brighton services that day but no trains at all through Falmer.
If ASLEF decide to join the party then we're fcuked :(
ASLEF strikes haven't been affecting Southern or Thameslink trains. Shame this is an RMT strike but it shouldn't get any worse. Every cloud...

per an old post of mine
I was told SWR already have their settlement in terms of pay reviews, along with Southern, Thameslink and Elizabeth line.
So they should not be affected by the Aslef/TSSA drivers' strikes.

However they are at risk from the RMT / Network rail strikes as they potentially impact the whole network regardless of who the drivers are.

PS we don't have a Brighton travel thread yet but it's been discussed here and in the strikes thread. if we should have one a mod might want to split these posts off to make the start of it.

No they wont

Brighton have played 2 matches at home on Train Strike days

Its only Palace that they would move the game due to strike action

The only train from Victoria to Brighton that ran on the 1st and 3rd of February was the 00:02 Service

Did anyone see the story last week about that bloke who travelled from Derby to Whitby using local buses? I think you could get to Brighton from Kew Bridge on 4 buses for £7.30 ?:redcard:

65 to Kingston
406 to Epsom
460 to Crawley
273 to Brighton

Brighton (A)

Correct

The Police did not want 3000 Palace fans at ground with no knowledge of how they will get home

From the Spurs match that went ahead

How you can travel to the Amex:

  • The club will run a bus shuttle service from Brighton city centre and Lewes Station. Brighton shuttle service will depart from Old Steine (bus stop F) three hours before kick-off. Supporters can also use bus number 25, 28, 29 from this stop to Falmer
  • Post-match pick up from Falmer station A27 bus stop, Lewes shuttle service will depart from the Lewes train station three hours before kick-off. Post-match pick up from the A27 eastbound bus stop
  • Park and Ride: There will be park and ride at Mill Road (BN1 8ZF) and Brighton Racecourse (BN2 9XZ). Pyecombe Equestrian Centre is sold out. All sites will be open from 2.30pm, and supporters are advised to arrive early as parking spaces will be allocated on a first come, first served basis at Mill Road and the racecourse. The last park and ride bus leaves the stadium 1.5 hours after the final whistle and the sites close shortly afterwards
  • Buses: Brighton and Hove Buses and Stagecoach, will operate a normal Saturday service across the club’s travel zone. Seagull Travel is running extended services for this match, and to book a seat on a coach check its website
  • Coaches: Any groups wishing to come to the match via a coach or minibus must book a parking space via [email protected]
  • Roads are expected to be busy so people have been advised to leave extra time for their journey. There are also roadworks taking place at Coldean Lane
  • Parking: There are limited spaces available at Sussex University (Car Park C) and the Bridge (Car Park B) for supporters to purchase off the club’s website. The club has warned that will be no cash sales on the day at any parking locations. All vehicles accredited to park at the car park C must enter via Stanmer Park, as there will be no entry at Falmer or Knights Gate.
  • Sussex University (Car Park C) is a short walk through the underpass to the Amex stadium The club has warned that post-match departure will be busy because of the additional use of further car parks on the university campus
  • Drop-off and pick-up point: There are no pick-up or drop-off points along Village Way or on Woollards Way (the entrance to the Bridge Car Park B). Supporters are advised to use the club’s official drop-off and pick-up point located at University of Sussex in Car Park 5, located by the sports hall.

Undoubtedly. But do't they want £60 for a return on that National Express?

There was a film, starring Tim Spall, who travelled the length of the Country on an OAP travel pass.

Emily Turner went from London to Edinburgh a few weeks ago on 20 local buses across three days though the £2 cap only runs as far as the Scottish border. Details of the route here. Apparently Andrew Cowell's journey to Whitby was inspired by her. maybe we'll take any extended bus chat elsewhere but just in case you were interested.

Sorry, just asked on the other thread about whether there is a strike on day of Brighton game, seems like there is. What a complete PITA

Really want to go to this but without trains from the Wild Wild West this is not going to be easy.

Brighton (A)

So are there are trains from London on the 1st April or are they all cancelled? Can't seem to get a definitive answer

Brighton (A)

Thanks, do you know when they will? Not living in the UK at the minute so not across the strikes

Annoyingly only a few days before. The TOCs now have a well rehearsed protocol for RMT strikes.

Assuming the RMT strike is on then there should still be a service every half hour VIC-BTN.
