Centenary Beer

A prominent BU Committee Member will confirm that on three occasions during the last year or so, I had offered by e-mail and verbally, to approach independent Breweries (such as Grand Union Brewery in Hayes www.gubrewery.co.uk ) with a view to producing a Centenary Beer with hopefully a percentage of the cost going to the Club.

The message "tell him not to worry about it, it's being sorted with Fullers" was issued each time.

Has anyone heard any developments on this ? :confused:

Yep, I understand Fullers are indeed producing a "100 years" beer :wave:

You'll probably find it will be the Summer Ale rebranded. I do miss the Honeydew - organic honey shipped over from Argentina. That reminds me, I need to compile a strategy report on Fullers...

Hardly Bosh, just helping the folks in charge of BFC out with :fishing: to prompt a little demonstration of how to respond to fans and a thing called PR !

Shame the Club didn't take advantage of the Beer and Air-Con and publicise it beforehand eh !

Anyway Arse Face, you're told all the goings-in at GP Bosh, what else is happening ? ;)

Through the Chronicle, I was trying to arrange with Fullers a competition among fans to name the beer, but some snooty marketing man turned his nose up at the idea despite some excellent suggestions from readers. Agreed just to pass them on to Fullers instead.
Damn, there goes the complimentary crates!!!:(

Anyway BeeH, how about getting on to someone like Grand Union to produce an 'unofficial' centenary beer, which perhaps the fans can be more involved with, to run alongide the Fullers one?
It would be great publicity for a micro-brewery, which in my opinion, produces great ales but can only ever be found at beer festivals.

Investigating alternatives would have made sense in my book but we don't know what's been agreed with Fullers and the ground and the Princess Royal etc., John Mac always seemed to hold out hope that Fullers would eventually come up with something positive for BFC but who knows !

I would have enjoyed, sorry, volunteered to do the tasting of course as part of my investigations and fact finding :)

Grand Union Brewery was an initial idea as they're keen to make a name for themselves and the Grand Union finishes in Brentford.

Going against BFC with a rival beer wouldn't make economic sense, the idea was to sell veritable gallons of it through Stripes etc.,

Can't be too difficult to get a brewery to knock out a celebration ale. They do that for many of the beer festivals.

Making money out of it is a different matter.

Still it would be nice to drink in aid of a good cause.

A strong Brentford IPA would suit me fine.

Are you suggesting anything here? Because I haven't heard anything about the place for quite a while now, seeing as it's shut I thought something might have happened. Would be nice to hear something other than ten year old stadium plans from the club to be honest.

I see nothing wrong in approaching another local micro brewer to see if they want to brew a beer. Thier is enough real ale pubs in the area, such as the Magpie & Crown in Brentford and the Red Lion in Isleworth, which could sell it.

I cant remeber which brewery but one brewed a championship beer when we last went up. I have the beer clip.

The Princess Royal was open last Saturday.

I swear the last few times I've been past it is was boarded up and had 'pub closed' on the doors. Obviously only temporary, I thought the club might finally have got the place, and we could start trying to build some proper facilities at GP.

It is open again now and under new management I have heard. Apparently the new owners did not have a licence in time so had to shut for a while.

Q. When is a Fullers Centenary Ale not a Centenary ale?
A. When its a Grand Union Brewery Centenary Ale!!!

Talk about smoke and mirrors! :rolleyes: :rolleyes: And its a honey ale surely not Honeydew..lol

Mind you when I get down to GP next Sunday I might just sink the odd one or two (more if 'er indoors aint watching). Is it available in bottles? I've got the brown paper bag ready, just in case :D :D :D

I phoned the Grand Union Brewey today to see if they the Centenary Ale was available in bottles or cans, Alas it is not so wont be on offer in "The Ship"

However I did ask if it would be possible to get a beer clip for my pump, apparently they have been inundated with requests from all over the world for the beer pump badge (hearing my surprise, they informmed me that it was a collectors item) and have added my contact details to their list. :bound:

Speaking to Womble, he informed me that the club sold out of the Ale against Wimbledon and that he had already written to the Grand Union brewery for his pump clip

Its got a hand pump that works, has polypins at Christmas and the 15 pint "barrels" of Stella have made the odd appearance

it should have been imho, could have been sold in pubs all over Brentford/West London raising a few bob and what with celebration beers being very collectable, the name of Brentford FC would have have circulated far and wide.

Probably a last minute thing by the Club though :rolleyes: but looking forward to sampling a barrel of it on Sunday :beer:
