With a defence as bad as ours, we have little hope if SF cannot find a decent front man.

I had high hopes that SF was going to get this sorted this week, but maybe it is an impossible task trying to get a decent player down to BFC.

Surely there must be a decent front man in Bristol?

All good centre forwards cost money..nobody gives away a player who has a good scoring ratio. You have to take gambles on unknowns who have good records in lower divisions like chris moore and hope they come good.

I don't really know what you expect, we have tried a host of unknowns who have largely failed, we can keep on trying more unknowns but as soon as we announce a new forward everybody starts moaning about their lack of scoring record etc before they have even kicked a ball. If we sign a known player from a higher division like rankin or burton everyone moans that they only have a 1 in 4 ratio.

Its getting really dull reading threads from people with totally unrealistic expectations.

Exactly what I said to Ricko last night - we can't score goals and Fitz said that was the problem as (in his words) the defence and midfield were not the problem.

Granted we have a couple of injuries at the back etc but all the transfers brought in to date have been negative ones?

I did not advocated spending silly money on a player and was just hoping that the managers publicised prem contacts could bear results.

If anybody thinks we can stay up with just Kuffour then they are wrong.

The transfer window is not yet closed, although I would add that in 11 games on loan to other clubs Barnard has scored 1 goal.

It's not just the forwards who get goals, the goal ratio from our midfield players has been appalling and oh for a seven goal a season centre back like Sodje!!

Hopefully these three new players may get a few goals between them at least.

As for up front we desperately need a target man to help feed the rest of the team especially Jo who can actually hit the back of the net. Willock has been doing a reasonable impersonation of a target man but an imposter is all he will ever be sadly..

Why can't we have two pacey front men who can feed off of someone who sits just behind them, or off of good passing play from a 4 man midfield?

I am not saying we have the players to do it, I am just saying why do so many people insist on this?

I still think Willock and Jo will do a job, hopefully Peters will get a few games upfront and not on the wings, I rate him as a striker.

I think we need to release Moore as his just another SF Jnr but with less talent.

Fair points re Barnard's scoring record, but he was significantly younger then. Scored a goal a game for Spurs reserves over the last 2 seasons which is why I believe he got his 1st team starts. He looked fairly feisty when I saw him, and a strong player who, though only of average height, challenged well in the air.

he hasn't had any starts for Spurs. Just come on in 3 games as sub, total of less than 30 minutes played. He is now nearly 23 and if he was any good he would surley have had few more chances by now.

I agree. Part of the reason why most strikers score goals in good teams is because the opposition's defence is concerned about not just the strikers but also the rest of the team. (Alternatively, it could be said that teams are scared of the striker and that leaves the door open for others). They don't even have to score, just look like they will do so a lot of the time.

Kuffour apart (and I'm a Willock fan in terms of his target man performances) the only other one ever looking a threat is O'Conner - and that's for set pieces.

Sorry for the loose use of the word 'starts' but I guess, Gee Bee, that we must just agree to differ.

I think the fact that Jol has kept him on a longer contract suggests that he is rated at Spurs but, as we know, unlikely to be preferred over the Keanes, Berbetovs, Defoes etc.

I would fell a lot happier if he was in our line up tomorrow but it ain't gonna happen so it's all hypothetical anyway.

I saw Barnard tear Fulham Reserves apart last year and thought then he might be what we needed to get us up last season but Brighton tried to get him on loan and Jol refused to let him go. Think he would be worth a punt what i can remember is he was tall and quick and knew where the back of the net was. Whether we could give him the right service though is another thing. Also see that Mark Yeates is still at Spurs the one who scored for Colchester at GP Last season he doesnt seem to be anywhere on loan at present.

just looked at lee barnards profile. he bagged 17 goals in 17 starts for the reserves in 2004-05 and in 2005-06 he scored 18 goals in 19 appearances

Maybe we should become a feeder club for Spurs they always seem to produce very good players, they do send quite alot of young players out to the lower league clubs. So it maybe useful for them to send them to a local club together. On football manerger you get paid to be a feeder club too i have no idea if its the same in real life. Also they'ed give use a friendly at GP and we'd get all the money for that. Seems good to me

I think we should ask all the top local teams if they'ed be are parent club.

The trouble with forwards(decent ones)they tend to want to much money which we aint got,and they like to loan themselves out to a club where they can get seen.The way our crap team is playing at the moment i'm not supprised its hard to lure someone.........i think we might have to wipe our mouths and get on with what wev'e got!

Question for those who know about non league football but i beleive that Chesham have a striker who scored 11 in 15 but has had a major bust up with the manager and they would want to sell him possibly for as little as a couple of thousand.

Missed his name when i was earwigging however seems to be a lad with potential so those in the know mighht be aware of who he is and can suggest whether worth pursuing

Given our present situation, there's no way we should be looking at non-league; we need experienced players who know what they need to do. We have enough non-league players already!

There is plenty of untapped raw talent in non-league football, players that with the minimum of coaching quickly adapt to professional football and often outshine those produced by club academies.

Examples of BFC picking up excellent non-league players and converting them into the finished article are more than numerous, from Ken Coote through to DJ Campbell.

Non-league is exactly, especially with us being poorer than a particularly down on his luck tramp, where we should be looking for new players.

I totally agree,and i know its easy saying this inthe bad positoin wer'e in but i think we should have looked more in this area for talent and cheaper wages...........alas ,we will see what the new loan players(who coudn't even get into there first teams where there from)can do today and then pass more judgement

Good point.

A seasoned campaigner in his mid-twenties at Conference South or Ryman Premier level would make the step up quite easily I suspect.

Recent examples such as Sodje or Campbell support this.

plenty, but that's completely different from being a Premiership reserve side...

It may be total pie in the sky at the moment, but you've still got to have that possibility that one day we might do a Wimbledon/Watford/Fulham, otherwise there's just no point..
