Clark Masters

Clark Masters

How anyone can possibly know that Clark Maters is the better keeper is beyond me. I guess the only people who know are the coaching staff and guess what? Nelson is their first choice. If Leroy hadn't been let down at the 11th hour at the start of the season then Masters would still be waiting for his league debut.

Clark Masters

Whilst not a real regular I do believe that Nelson is (lets be kind) average to say the least. Not a bad shot stopper, but pretty poor in other aspects of goalkeeping. However, I think we have more than enough problems with inexperienced players this season. So why make the problem worse by adding another one.

Masters time will come hopefully later in the season, if we are not involved in a relegation dog fight.

Clark Masters

I don't know if Masters is a better keeper. But I do know that Nelson is nothing to write home about..

apart from all the saves he makes of course that no one else is capable of, hey without him we would concede about 20 goals a game I guess

:fishing:

Clark Masters

Some people really do have it in for Nelson ...a few suggest he doesn't throw but last night he did on numerous occasions like he does when given the opition. Last nights second goal wasn't his mistake it was Osbournes (who had a quality game) but he was the one who miskicked the ball, a routine cross which should have been cleared by our centre back not keeper. Swanseas second goal was a quality strike, i hope our strikers could take note. Again it was O'Connor who backed off and it was his mistake. How many goals has he cost us this season?! He also puts energy into our team and shows passion which i hope some would take note off. Everyone loved Nelson at Leyton Orient and Northampton and Scunthorpe, even Swindon but one poor kick and hes blamed for our lack of quality up front. Whats he supposed to do when kicking ...do it on the ground?! Its not his fault we can't afford a big striker and our wing backs are to inept to collect the ball.
Masters???! had a good game against blackpool - Alan Julien had a good'en against Rushden and Diamonds and turned out to be hopeless. Nelson has proved hes a quality keeper over the 3 years with us. Didn't he keep over twenty clean sheets last year?!

Clark Masters

Nah, that was our back four :fishing: ;)

A good point, I remember a while back proclaiming Julian was a better bet than Nelson, and look how that turned out. Masters looks very good indeed, but lets not rush him.

Nelson's a decent keeper, not great, but certainly not sh*t. His decision making is decidedly dodgy, but hopefully Stannard can coach the temporary insanity out of his game.

Now isn't the time to drop Nelson, give him more time.

Clark Masters

I think Nelson is a good goalie, and cannot comprehend why some people have got it in for him.

are you nuts? how sh*t does he have to be before he gets dropped. if we had had a decent keeper for the last two years we would be in the championship right now, FACT. :puppy: :puppy: :puppy:

Clark Masters

Nelson is proper sh*t lol

People always go on about the saves keepers make as if another keeper in their position would never had made those saves, equally with mistakes I grant you.

I say give the other lad a run :sorted:

rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl

i completely agree with everyhting scripted in the post maionly the 1st sentence.

Playing fast and loose with the word FACT, aren't we?

IMHO, he is the perfect goalie for us at the mo. He does have the occasional rush of blood which means that scouts from higher levels probably wouldn't take a punt on him, but he is (from what I have seen of oppo keepers) above average for this division under normal circumstances. :goldilockssmilie:

Clark Masters

rofl classic!!! rofl

Clark Masters

Nelson has had his chance, he had enough before the season started but I thought he deserved another chance under Leroy. In the last 3 games, he should have saved Knight's second and has had two very bad rushes of blood to the head, which has seen a Bournemouth player shoot over and a Luton player shoot wide. Masters looks to be the future for the number one jersey anyway and it would be better to get him in now. Before Nelson makes it third time lucky for Chesterfield on Saturday with one of his rushes of blood to the head.
i totally disagree with you.....i think overall Nelson has played
really well..the only goal i would blame him for is the swindon first one.Of course he makes a few mistakes with his kicking and coming out of goal but all keepers make them.have you ever watched the goal highlights of our league...every week theres a number of terrible mistakes by the goalies.I think Nelson is one of the best in this Leage

Clark Masters

Masters has a 100% record and has NEVER conceded a league goal... FACT! :)

I think he is being judged is exactly the same way as Rhodes was :fishing:

There are 101 concerns before we should discuss Masters replacing Nelson.

Clark Masters

are you nuts? how sh*t does he have to be before he gets dropped. if we had had a decent keeper for the last two years we would be in the championship right now, FACT.

he makes really great saves between the 40th & 45th minute in every home game :thetruth:

How exactly would Nelson have single handedly got us into the championship???
If i remember rightly we conceded some really well struck almost unstoppable shots in a number of games towards the close of the season,

Do you not think had we attacked a 1 - 0 lead, instead of sitting back and letting quality players come at us for the last 20 minutes we would have been up.

With the start we had we should have been up before the end of april, not sitting in the play offs for a second season running.

It wasn't nelson's fault we remained in this league it was the tactical nouse of Martin Allen, who wanted to defend a lead instead of going out to destroy the opponents that cost us promotion over the last two seasons.

Clark Masters

Nelson is an above average keeper for a Div one team./QUOTE]

Agree 100%. I think Nelson is a good goalie, and cannot comprehend why some people have got it in for him.

Agree ( and I am being serious)

Never understand the negativity some people have towards him...sense its a bit personal a bit like oppo ball boys etc....

His technique and handling is pretty good, he's not just a shot stopper either his handling of crosses in the area is better than Smudger was.

He has another key ingredient....confidence and that eccentricty that most good keepers seem to have.

Clark Masters

Nelson is proper sh*t lol

People always go on about the saves keepers make as if another keeper in their position would never had made those saves, equally with mistakes I grant you.

Finally...someone who agrees with me

Clark Masters

I disagree about the eccentricity strongly. You are right some of the great goalies had or have this but what Nelson has is just being a prat. His faces everytime Bournemouth players had shots on Saturday were just stupid, especially the Best one that was inches wide and he pretended was going well wide. I agree in his defence he is an average league one goalie though.

Yeah you can always tell how good a keeper is by the faces he pulls

Clark Masters

You might think not, but what i mean is as a few others have mentioned he has poor temperament which means he makes poor decisions. He was doing those antics on Saturday because he was wound up and he seems to lose the plot very easily and a big part of goalkeeping is mental.

On the technical side not many people mention this but when the ball is played over the top he is AWFUL at coming out to gather the ball, last night once again Heywood was bawling at him and the ball has almost reached the penalty spot and still Nelson has stayed rooted and Heywood has had to desperately toe it away from underneath the keepers nose. This happens far too often.

Clark Masters

I think Nelson is a good keeper. His comunication with the rest of the team is briliant he is a good shoot stoper his kicking is good with both feet some gk cant even kick with their main foot and he plays with passion for the club.

Masters did play well after he had pick up some confidence. But we cant risk him starting, if makes a mistake his confidence will drop and that will lead to more mistakes.

If nelson makes a mistake i have more confidence in him to pick him self up again.

Clark Masters

Just an average keeper IMO. I think League One is definitely his level, could do a lot better but also a lot worse

Oh, and he is not eccentric (although not too fussed about having a sh*t Chilavert/Barthez anyway really).

Clark Masters

Nelson clear off

Clark Masters

i see. so maybe it is me watching him that puts him off. i shall stay in the bar from the 45th to 65th minutes next home game to test your theory? :box: :box:

Clark Masters

you can shut up..tellign nellie 2 clear off. We need him, left with Clarke masters??? He's a SUBgoalie, nelson is better, sorry 2 break it to you.....

reasoned debate, well thought out opinions, ability to express them through clear english...

These are all reasons why Ken joined the GPG

Clark Masters

I never thought I'd say this, but... We need Nelson back! Clark has made some very good saves, but at the same time he has been at fault for most of the goals he has let in. His positioning and reaction for both Forest goals was terrible. He was caught in no mans land for the cross against Rotherham (I think). His kicking is better, but Nelson is a much better goalie.

Nelson is better than Masters. FULL STOP.

NO !
If we had a decent goal scorer we would be in the Championship
If our defence could hold onto a lead, we would be in the Championship
If we had a manager with bottle we would be in the Championship

the last player who should be blamed is Jay Tabb, after him it's Nelson who saved us many points last season

Clark Masters

y cant people give Nelly a chance.....??
there is a hell of alot of pressure on a goalie, if the opposition scores a goal, you cant blame it all on the goalie,,,the tru question is why did the opposstion get the ball and where was the defence? past that, then yeh, you can blame the goalie, but only when its a crappy strike, coz if its class, then its just gonna OBVIOSULY go in, Sorry if im giving you a headache reading this and trying 2 understand it...

As i said earlia, Masters is good, but jus not as experienced, keep him for sub/odd game, but keep Nelly on, overally better.....He saved the day at Oreint,,,,Best player on the pitch..........When it comes down to it i will suppoort hueva is out there in a BFC shirt. Dnt wanna argu with any other supporters bout it. Wat is the point!! xx

Clark Masters

o and those people on about how much sh*tter he is this season....we have lost Sodje....(:'() , key part in defence, the whole team has changed...and if we keep losing, you cannot blame this on Stu, you could blame it on those not scoring the goals up the other end??.......

Clark Masters

Who ever is in goal whether it is Nels or Clark we have conceded goals from freekicks that we shouldn't.

Some of the blame has to be put on Big Jims shoulders as he is afterall the goalkeeping coach and should be preparing and advising on how to position the defensive wall.

Overall though i think that we have one proven keeper at this level and one keeper that has a lot to learn that unfortunately can only be leanrt from league experience.

What both must do is learn from their mistakes and go forward into the next matches with more "nous" and a greater confidence that they have learnt from previous games and they are capable of doing a god job between the sticks.

The only time i've seen Masters recently was Forest (I was at the Gillingham but the first thing I saw was him being sent off.) I agree that he is still raw and has a bit to learn but he'll get that with experience. Nelson has been given his chance and still makes rash mistakes, his shot stopping is not as good as Masters but his command of the area is. Masters will be better then Nelson and we should stick with him in my view as if we do by January he will have already surpassed him. Nelson has been given too many chances and I don't think he'll ever play higher then this level (or deserve to) as a number one keeper. Masters has the potential to be a premiership goalkeeper and should be given the chance to devlop his career.

Being honest I don't think Nelson would have saved those free kicks on Saturday, he's well let face it not very good.

So based on recent games, you would play a young unproven keeper who has been sent off (albeit wrongly, could he/Nelson have done better? Who knows) and let in two carbon copy free-kicks largely in part to his bad positioning.

We have lost TURNER as well who should be in a higher league than showman Sodje

Yes because Nelson's form is nothing to write home about. In my view we are no safer with him in goal then Masters. Masters will learn and the only way that will happen is through playing games.

I don't rate Nelson as a shot stopper- Masters is better.

Nelson has a better command of his area, but I felt Masters was getting better with that as time went on at Forest and with a few more games he'll be there.

If we stick with Masters till January I believe he'll have surpassed Nelson as a keeper by then.

Clark Masters

Has the whole Nelson family registered yet?

And would anyone like to tell us why Brentford FC is a revolving door, where players continually move on to "bigger" clubs (i.e. clubs with more money) such as Reading and Scum, and Nelson is still at Brentford?

Clark Masters

Fair enough, at this stage I would still choose Nelson, but I can see where you are coming from. Paul Smith progressed rapidly when he came in for Oli, fingers crossed Masters will do the same.

Clark Masters

Masters is a sorry excuse of a goalkeeper ,he should **** off like that useless **** of manager that we have,

Masters is a ****er and shouldnt be wearing the proud red and white shirt, get rid of him now and make him join the dole queue tomorrow

how can you say that about a young keeper who's got more potential than Nelson has. Nelson has had 3/4 years and hasn't progressed. He still can't kick. He can't come for crosses. He doesn't give the defence confidance. Nelson is dire. Masters is the future and needs support. Your comments are a disgrace.

Sorry pal Stuart would not have had to SAVE those free kicks at Forest cos he would have positioned his wall right and he has to come back when he is fit......we cant afford to lose many more games because of Masters inexperience......just for the record I think he WILL be a good jeeper but Stuart IS a good keeper end of

Clark Masters

stuart WOULD have saved at least 2 of those 4 goals 2dayy! did u see masters 2day?? and u wanna say he's better than nelson..u need an eye test mate.
