Without Henry and Toney Jensen is left trying to create anything.

Should have bought Alex Scott who went to boremuff.

We needed 3 signings in the summer. A Premier League Keeper, Creative Midfielder and CF. We didn't get any of these and with the injuries we are in trouble. Very disappointed with the recruitment in the summer we just seemed so relaxed. Haven't been to impressed with most of the signings we have made since promotions. Last season we seems to be playing 9 of our promotion squad with only Mee and Hickey. I would be replacing the keeper and Wissa before our next league game. Maupay has to start and would be looking at Balcombe or Thomas to start ahead of the one we have now. He just scares me and I'm in the stand, would of hated playing in front of him.

sadly i tend to agree. especially the lack of a tall, experienced cf - even a good journeyman as a stop gap from the bench. Far too much pressure on Wissa and Mbuemo.

Spot on magic ! You forget the cover for Rico though …

Knowing that Toney was banned and we needed to change our style rather than faf around all summer trying to spend £40m odd on Johnson the priority should have been signing a creative midfield player that could compliment Jensen and with the pace we have up on top with Bryan, Wissa and Schade.

Creative midfielder

We’ve needed an improvement in creative midfield since we’ve been promoted. Nobody has nailed the third spot alongside Jensen and Norgaard. Now with Da Silva, Damsgaard and Baptiste all injured we lack options here. Unfortunately our midfield is a touch lightweight and not as dynamic as most in this league.

Shoot me down......Ghoddos can create, lets see how he does against the Arse on Wednesday?
Frankly the last minute resigning of him summed up our disappointing summer transfer window. He obviously wasn't inundated with options following his release by us.

I always thought we needed more creativity, but after the injuries to JDS and Baptiste a midfielder really should’ve been the number 1 priority. Instead we used the £40/45m we had left bidding for 3 right wingers, all of which appeared to not be interested in actually joining us. I’m sure it was a different story from Phil’s POV, but from an outsider’s perspective it really was a baffling end to the window.

Other than Maupay we didn't sign anybody after the middle of June.

That’s a very narrow interpretation.

Phil has said repeatedly that we have to target to recruit players to improve the squad, not just bulk it up. None of us know which players we actually bid for (except Johnson, very publicly) in what positions. We ended up padding the squad with Ghoddos and Maupay, neither of whom, with due respect to them, actually improve us, then we’ve been hit with injuries that could not’ve been predicted.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

If reviewing 85000 players doesn't identify one realistic target then do we accept that we are at our level and downwards is inevitable? I'm struggling to accept that we cannot find better midfielders than Janelt, Onyeka, Baptiste and Dasilva. Maybe we put players who know the system above those with better ability.

Are any of our younger players ready to step up ie Yarmolyuk or Ji-soo Kim (I think that’s correct) etc

We needed a creative midfielder, a GK and a CF as a priority all summer. Plus a back up for Rico. These were all required way before the window opened in June. We signed the keeper but didn't seem interested in the other 3 areas. We seemed to be chasing dream signings all summer that clearly didn't want to play for us. I still don't understand since getting promoted we have come away from the signings that have made us successful in the past. 90% plus of our Championship squad have performed amazingly since we came up and some have moved on. How much of the 100 million plus we have spent since promotion will we get back on these players.

I accept there’s a few positions that we need an upgrade in and, certainly, your list for attacking midfielders are squad-fillers. From the 85,000, it would be very interesting to know, for ‘first-team improvements’, how many players are actively tracked for each role.

The most frustrating thing about this thread is that there's nothing that hasn't been said before.

There was even a thread with a poll on it somewhere, where GPGers voted a midfielder and forward the 2 most essential positions to strengthen.

As has been said, for FTT to get a new 4 year contract, something has gone seriously wrong with recruitment. An injury to Norsgaard or Jensen and we are bottom 3 material without a good January replacement.

I can’t see how you know were weren’t interested in signing improvements for other positions and those we were interested in would not be in your dream signings category. Improving on the signings we made in the past is not easy.

You do highlight one of the challenges, in that players at the level we are looking for are often not going to find Brentford FC very attractive – there’s only so much weight can be placed on living in London and the development potential of Brentford FC, even for Championship players, like Lewis-Potter. We have to work hard to make us the sort of club they’d want to play for when we’re a tiny club fishing in a very small pool.

15 mins watching Sheff Utd and I’d fancy McAtee on loan from Man City as an option come January ?

Creative midfielder

I know we have steered clear of loans in recent seasons, apart from Eriksen of course, but perhaps January might be the time, depending upon how our injuries look, to change this. Our advantage must be that coaches can be confident in loaning us players as we are a well-run setup where players can improve. If Toney is on his bike in January and nobody suitable is on the market to replace him then a Broja-type makes sense? Equally our need for another creative midfielder could be similarly addressed.

The Dasilva, Damsgaard, Baptiste injuries were after the Fulham game, 2 of which we knew were long term. It’s not like our midfield depth has suddenly fallen apart since the window’s been closed. Our response to those injuries was to bring back Ghoddos. We had 2 weeks to bring in a midfielder and spent it chasing a forward instead.

Eriksen wasn’t a loan, he was a free agent

But you (or I) don’t actually know how much "chasing” effort was put into how many players we were hoping to recruit.

How much effort, no, but whether we tried to recruit anyone? The reality in this day and age of 24 hr social media is that we have a fairly decent idea. Phil even said this in his end of window video in that nothing gets kept under wraps now.

If we were serious about any 1st team approaches (not B team), and by that I mean an agent was contacted or a bid put in, you can be sure it would have leaked out.

I’m not the greatest believer in social media “truth”, either that we were or that we were not definitively pursuing specific players, although our persistence with Johnson made that one very clear. If you’re prepared to give it all credence, so be it.

Beats me up every year why we don't do loans. If any year loans were needed it was this summer.

Creative midfielder

Creative midfielder or somewhere else but what I think we need in January is a leader. Maybe two. Strong PL character and something to build around, set the right standards. It looked strange when Newcastle made Trippier as a RB one of their first new big signings but they knew they were getting much more than that. I think we need to find our own Brentford right-sized character like that. And quickly. Up the Bees

Creative midfielder

Then what is at the moment given the circumstances? I agree he’s no saviour but I’m bloody glad we have him at the moment.
He’s a body agreed but he will not turn our fortunes around.

You'll see plenty of posts from me about what I think of twitter. However, even in a massive pile of dung lies some goodness.

The fact remains that it a club approach a top player these days, it is 'out there' before contracts are signed. Ask Phil. The 99% of drivel and made up stories are irrelevant. We were not serious about a midfkeeper last window.

Creative midfielder

Mike Tresor was the creative midfielder we should’ve signed

Creative midfielder

I hope we change that policy, certainly would have helped this summer when we are resigning Ghoddas and giving Frank a new 4 year contract.
We need to sign players to develop for our benefit, not other clubs.

Dewsbury Hall should have been a target of ours with Leicester's relegation, no chance now.

We have but if there not ready for the first team we need to get players in that are. I agree if we have young players knocking on door but we don't. Maybe in a couple of years.

Creative midfielder

But can play attacking midfielder also pal….
Firstly stop being so patronising. I’m not and never will be your “pal” - and whilst he has played midfield most of his teams use him out wide as do Burnley. That’s not to say he isn’t a good player.
