How come that as soon as a defender is injured we get a loan within hours .Alexander has been injured for years ,we eventually sign Clarkson on loan and Uwe decides he's not good enough . Is there a secret loanee that we're still working on the deal for ?

Sorry ,I posted before reading the whole thread .

What does this mean abee ?

"Uwe discussed some options and advised on the contacts that have been made. "

Uwe has a list of strikers ,he's contacted the clubs concerned and is waiting for answers ? Shirley he has to know whether a player is within budget before telling the board who he's asked to join ?

I was responding to a suggestion that Uwe was clearly unconcerned about the striker situation because Clarkson has gone back and not yet been replaced. I didn't phrase it very well and my apologies. Uwe advised us of the clubs to whom he and MW have spoken re strikers and the current state of negotiations. On his Bees Player interview he mentions Dale Bennett and that we were able to bring Dale in on a very reasonable deal. It was done quickly but quality strikers are at the premium end of the market and a striker with pedigree takes time and frankly patience. Sure Uwe could bring a striker in with a snap of his fingers and I doubt that the GPG would be having a collective orgasm if we'd taken Nicolas Bignall this week for a month or maybe brought Rhys Murphy back or another youngster with limited experience to be thrown in at the deep end given our current lack of goals. The board asks the same questions that you all do and I for one was more than happy with the responses we heard today.
This is a personal viewpoint and I need to emphasise that as it was almost certainly my last board meeting so my 'in the know' will gradually thin down until I'm in the same position as most of you. Sorry but that's all I can say.

Dale Bennett

Yes, a little too cryptic for me as well.

Could not work out the name Tevez within abee's reply.........please re-read and tell me if I am right

Dale Bennett

Well we obviously need cover there so seems an ok signing. I'm confused though that when we need a defender we can just go and get one on loan no bother. Thompson, Llera, Adams now Bennett. But when we need a striker........like NOW we don't seem to have any urgency. Has Uwe got a touch of the Arsene Wengers when it comes to signing strikers, ie won't make a decision as he is waiting for something that probably doesnt exist. Weird and more than a bit frustrating too.

We needed a partner for Clayton in July.

Thanks for the explanation - are we any closer to signing a quality striker though?

I said that I was happy with the replies we received from UR and MW.

I'll take that as a yes then (unless you think Michael Spillane is the answer to our prayers up front).

I don't know the answer but suspect that lots of forwards
available for loan as there appear to be defenders but not many proven goal scorers available. I think UR realises that and short term has been looking at players that he believes might benefit the team alongside Clayton.

To be honest I know it's a manager and his teams responsibility to uncover players and develop them as what they're paid for but it seems to be getting harder and far
fewer genuine raw talent down in non league as anyone with a smidgeon of ability contracted from primary school age to Prem clubs.

I believe we recognised how important a proven goalscorer was to have an outside chance of promotion and hoped that either GA or Charlie would, with better supply chip in with 10-15 goals plus.
Warbs discovered Schlupp and sure he figured that he might be loaned again but injuries to Nugent and the fact that he took his chances meant that was a non starter. Top up that Charlies agent engineered a move and GA got injured we have been left trying to find a plan D up front and it clearly hasn't worked.

I'm convinced that all our problems are up front, the midfield look reasonably comfortable in possession and bar Tranmere and Huddersfield second half haven't been over run like in seasons gone past. They've struggled to find the final pass but often because too few options or players in dangerous areas.

Don't think GA return will witness goalfests but think he'll be a much better option than those we've seen so far this season. Long term I hope and pray Warbs and UR will find another better partner.

abee so we sit around till chrimbo for something to happen ??? obviously nice to see you around till then to sort the finances and deals out till then thank you in advance

Maybe someone should remind Uwe about James Wilson. Don't know if he's become crap at Brizzle City, but he was well-liked when AS brought him in.

Part of their first team squad - appears quite regularly.

I just think that good strikers are like hens teeth, better we sign nobody then bring in a duffer.

I just hope that somehow GA is fit to start on Sat and can last 90 mins.

Damn you NLB, a few posts before and took me 6 paragraphs to state what you did in 5 lines.

PM Brickie Chap. He takes good notes.

abee mentioned "shirley" and "thin" in his replies.
I am thinking a Birmingham or Southampton forward, with minimal body fat.
Will do some digging.

We needed a partner for Clayton in July.

We had two in the form of Charlie MacDonald and Gary Alexander.

At the very end of the window Charlie went to mk dons and we signed grella who uwe must have got good reports about and took that judgement and signed him. So back up to 3. Uwe also said that he knew we needed another but wanted the right player. Then Gary got injured and this forced his hand to take a plunge on clarkson. He was available and in our budget. He again must have had good reviews. I thought he was good but the supply was crap. The charlton game he played very well. Didn't he also get skys motm?

We know we need a striker. And so does uwe. But to say from july is ridiculous. In pre season we were playing very well and scoring goals with three decent strikers... who was complaining then.

Dale Bennett

That is simply not true.

Until the January window opens the only option for a striker is the loan market and at todays board meeting Uwe discussed some options and advised on the contacts that have been made.

Yeah I know, I was just talking out loud really. I think the way we play football is a breath of fresh air and to watch us keep the ball is very impressive. If this time next year we are playing teams of the pitch and keeping the ball then this part of the season will be a distant memory. We do need to go 2 up front though, can't see why grella isn't being given a chance before we get another forward, it is as if uwe feels he was a mistake.

I am still going to see tintin this Saturday though.

FFS DONT U EVER LISTEN...

The new Johnny English is supposed to be better than TinTin... :sorted:

Dale Bennett

Think Steve Howard and you'd be closer to what we actually need playing up alongside Clayton Donaldson.

I'm not denying that, but when we were scoring goals for fun in pre season and early season, no one was moaning.
So to say from July is ridiculous. It's only been the last 6 weeks we've really been crying out, and that goes back to September at the earliest. We had August between that and still no complaints.

I'm coming to the conclusion that he thinks that grella and Clayton can't play together. Maybe he sees it in training. Maybe he is trying it in training and its not working, and prefers Clayton over him and has to go for 1 up top... all maybes.....

Welcome Dale :)
Never heard of him before!
Thought we night have kept Thompson, thought he can play centre back.
Oh well this lad gets my full support anyways!

Dale Bennett

Eger hasn't been very good by the way

Dale Bennett

We've signed young centre back on loan due to injury and are on page 4 of comment already

Welcome to Brentford Dale

Makes sense if Karleighs out for a while and Legge isn't due back.

Needed as cover at least.

:imwith:

My Watford supporting mate hasn't spoken to me for years
But I imagine he would say - Good prospect, needs some games to prove himself - could be one for the future, untested on a regular basis, may do well in league 1, he's a defender, he's fairly tall, decent in the air, doesn't score much, likes the dugouts to be on his right hand side when attacking Ealing Road, a big fan of onions, etc, etc

good post. is your watford ex/mate still living in LA with David?

Dale Bennett

Might seem a silly reply, with regards to strikers, however Weston, Forrester, McGinn and Grella can all play upfront can't they? We have an "overload" of midfield players and if, for example, Weston played upfront with Donaldson, there are plenty of other players, Saunders, McGinn, Wood, Adams who can play on the wings. If I recall Weston played upfront before and scored twice in one match??

Dale Bennett

Wonder if he's played many games with the other Watford loanee. Could they pair up in central defence?

Duh. Oh yeh. Can't keep up. Remembered we had 2 loanees to dec but thatll be adams and llera won't it.

I get confused easily these days and was probably thinking of Ian Bolton anyway. Read all about HIM in www.legendspublishing.net/80. Apparently you've still got a few days left to order at the reduced price AND get your name in the book. Wow.

And I meant to quote kettering not me. :makesjoeydeaconnoiseatself:

I thought he was ok, not very comfortable on the ball and seems a bit small to be CB but scored the winner so cant complain...he looked shocked to have scored aswell

seemed to play the ball long each time instead of looking for a pass but dont matter, I want our defenders to defend and he done that brilliant today.

Dale Bennett

Did ok. Small for a CB. Scored the winner. Well done fella!!

Dale Bennett

When I saw how small he was I thought he was going to struggle against Clarke but he didnt and appears super strong! Looked like a fat Ryan Peters rofl

Dale Bennett

Worried me a little. Very small for a centre back. Good goal though and I hope it gives him confidence.

He's an inch shorther than Thomas Vermaelen........what's the obsession with size ?

my itk, gypsy, watford mate said he'd score.
Shouldm have put £5 on it :banghead:

At least his long ball found someone in red and white, playing to orders probably as most of the balls out of defence were long.
IMHO would be a decent Perm signing in January when Llera goes back would play well alongside KO or LL. Very quick for a center back too. Good start to his period with the Bees.
