It might do away with the time wasted building two walls and the ref doing graffiti before the ball gets smashed into row Z.This type of long range free-kick goal has happened before, where the goalkeeper and the defence doesn’t expect it, and will undoubtedly happen again in the future to some other team.
Raya has been brilliant, and it’s just a lesson learned so we’ll be ready for similar next time.
Because it was mentioned on TV tonight, I looked up the video of the 40 yard free-kick scored by Dieter Hamann for Germany v England in the last ever match at the old Wembley in 2000. That/s even further out than on Tuesday.
David Seaman is in goal and the ball finds it way through a lot of players, and Seaman can’t save it. Needless to say, he wasn’t expecting that shot with so many players in front of him.
Germany won 1-0.
It’s worth looking it up on YouTube. Particularly the one with the German commentary, as it shows the goal from all the angles.
Sadly for Daniels it really is as simple as that. Raya plays the game in a completely different way - and at a pace - to any other keeper we've ever had, and 90+% of other keepers out there. First line of attack. Any goalie wanting the Bees #1 shirt from now on needs to watch, learn and emulate...Daniels has done really well so far this season but Raya is a much much better keeper.

Nice post. Says a lot about him and our club.I think Daniels knows his role and accepts it happily. He's played very well when he has been needed and the quality of his performances show that he has worked hard to develop himself so that he is both an able deputy and someone who can provide Raya with the support needed to improve his own game and be at his best. He could easily go back to a regular starting spot in L1 if he wanted it. Could even do a decent job for several Championship clubs as a first choice. But I don't think I've ever heard even an inkling of a rumour that he wanted to do either. This way he has a good, secure career in the game at a high level, potentially for several years to come, as well as the opportunity, if he wants it, to learn from some great coaches so that he might himself move in that direction. It is not a bad life at all.
I doubt it's interesting for him at all: Hi David, how are you feeling... OK, get your kit.Interesting choice for TF on Saturday.

Can’t help thinking about how he played those penalties on Tuesday, every time he dived to his left..... and they were soft kicks and not that well taken kicks, except on the one occasion he went right and saved.
Game play or just good guess?
Just a thought , very happy with his play and not a criticism.
Also at least 1 corner given away from a tip over which Raya would have caught
Never been completely convinced by this, although I'd agree Raya has the appearance of more urgency to release it when it's in his hands.I didnt mind that. At least he made sure of it. Its our slow play from the back thats causing us issues.

There has to be someone available to distribute it quickly to. How many players were making themselves available in a decent position? Might be a chicken & egg situation here. There were plenty of games early last season when Raya was just rolling it out to the back 4, who all passed it sideways, and it often came back to him. Pinnock's distribution today was a bit off too. It won't have helped that Henry was quickly off today, who would have been the obvious outlet to play out from the back.

Daniels has performed wonderfully but have to agree Raya at a different level in terms of distribution
Raya is a class above on his day, but I don't think Luke should be dropped just yet. Regardless of their distribution stats which I don't think are as impactful as everyone seems to think, it would send a bad message to the team to just drop Luke after 5 solid performances.
Squad unity is an important factor to consider. Every player in the team needs to feel like they'll be given a fair crack when their opportunity comes. No one has a divine right to be starting, and Raya having to re-earn his place in the team will make him a better player in the long run. Raya will be our number one again soon, and we won't suffer with Luke getting a run.
But now I've written this Frank will almost certainly start Raya next league game ?
By "we", I assume you mean the fans with their personal team selections. I seriously doubt that Thomas bases his squad and team selection on sentiment, although he may consider the next game with the current one.I think when it comes to the league this season we need to avoid selections based on sentiment. We're always striving for that extra 'edge' no matter how small and if Raya provides that and he's fit, he should be in. No question..
Er who said anything about choosing a goalkeeper based on 'sentiment'? ?I think when it comes to the league this season we need to avoid selections based on sentiment. A good win tonight but could have been different if Raya didn't make that excellent save in the 2nd half. Daniels hasn't done anything wrong but time to start Raya in league games now.
His much vaunted distribution superiority to Daniels's style, wasn't there, tonight; a weird escapade to the corner when dealing with an attacker, that almost went wrong and a clearance straight to the opposition, amongst other foibles, but one great save.1 great save, but thought he looked uncharacteristically uncertain tonight on a number of occasions.
An absolute worldy, goal-preventing save... and a clean sheet. He’ll do for mebut one great save.
