Were clearly comfortable that he’s going to stay having loaned out both Balcombe and Gunnarsson. Suspect they’ll get a stopgap in and come again for him in the summer (assuming arteta is still there)

Arsenal wont pay real money for a second keeper. They'll make the hopeless Runarson third string and find a 35+ keeper on a free or for small fee. The Arse are skint.

David Raya

Perhaps Iñaki will want Daniels as a bench-sitting 'keeper instead?

Arsenal have signed goalkeeper Matt Ryan on loan from Brighton for the rest of this season.

That should put that rumour to bed.

I couldnt quite see the "foul"

But i wonder if he comes to catch it instead of punching then hes got a better chance and the ref sees the foul clearer.

Cooper said they had his starting position in mind for the game. Managers are aware that it can hurt us.

And reading the rest of his post match interview you didn't get the inkling that he obviously likes blowing smoke up his own arse, Cooper and his side looked inept all evening, out thought and outplayed and were only saved by an even more inept referees performance

"I spoke to our analysts and they noticed you can score against Raya if you elbow him in the gob"
"We contemplated chopping one of his arms off but thought there would be the risk of a yellow card"

I'm laughing but in all honesty, Raya should have been stronger. He should have punched Bidwell right in the face.

David Raya

its a foul but the keeper is at fault for actually putting the ref in that postion to call it......keepers can get away with virtually anything and raya should have shoved him out the way and punched it away first......poor keeping and poor reffing

David Raya

nothing wrong with it. Cooper's just trying to make out he's a tactical genius of some description, when all the evidence suggested otherwise..
Refs will start seeing through them soon and they won't get decisions. Given how there players and he reacts its only a matter of time before it all goes to pieces there.

Also they had a chance to open up a gap tonight and set out not to get beat. That doesn't sound like a team who will be able to deal with a run in.

The sh*t will hit the fan their it's just a matter of when.

Obviously with his free hand while catching the ball in the other one. Just so it looked fair.

David Raya

Looked ok to me but we still let a goal in from IMO a situation where he needs to be stronger. Im no Cooper fan btw.
Just waiting for VCMazz's goalkeeping tutorial now.

Equally the number of times we got behind their wing backs. If Henry could cross they'd have been in huge trouble!

We were saying in our house that we should have tried swapping the wingers, such was the space behind their full backs.

David Raya

not surprised the ref didnt see it given his position and the 18 or so bodies in his way. The linesman on the other hand has a perfect view imo. At first glance thought it was weak goalkeeping and it was abit, but its definitely a foul and even more sickening when you look how many free kicks swansea got from our set pieces for f*** all

David Raya

Probably got a bit lost in the 7 goals etc but Raya made a couple of outstanding saves in the first half when we were struggling.. Also seemed to hurt his shoulder at one point?
Agreed, a couple of very good saves.....
But, as with other games this season, a bit lost on one or two occasions with balls coming into the box......
Not sure if this is a DR problem, or those in front of him...

David Raya

He had a wobble before lockdown last year and he’s slightly less certain in his claiming at the moment

he shouldn’t be, he’s a great keeper

I think today the wind had a big say. He's normally very good at coming for crosses.

He got caught by the Beast Mk2 - e.g. Ikpeazu- when he flapped at a cross and got caught by a stray boot. He did look noticeably shaky under the high ball but then collectively the back four had the jitters in the first half but you have to credit Ikpeazu and Co. for playing very well. You are also correct in that he did pull a couple of decent saves out of the bag as well.

Following the Swansea 'goal' I think teams are going to throw some high balls his way and see how he handles it. He's good enough to cope with this but did have a couple of 'moments' in the first half.

Re Baldersbee last point
Pontus must be around Jersey Rd Training Ground , can we use his experience to help out defending this type of ball into the 6yard penalty spot area

I think that's what Brian Riemer's supposed to be doing. Where Pontus makes the difference in on the pitch with his organisation and constant talking to the defensive unit. He'd probably have got the defenders with a higher line on dead balls so that Raya had more space.

................where is Tom?????..............

In hiding again.........still never paid up that £1 bet either!!

David Raya

I’m torn on the first goal. My instinct is go through ball, man and everything in front of you...
However I’d be fuming if I was in goal and that goal stood. Whether Saville meant to or not, his arm impeded Raya. There no such thing as an “accidental” foul...

Beyond that, he was outstanding!!!
