David Raya

I haven't seen anything other than a couple of click bait quotes attributed to his agent to suggest he has spat his dummy out. But hey, I'm not at Jersey Road (the last time I went to watch training, Pat Kruse gave me a lift back to Braemar Road in his Cortina) so who knows...
Everything the player has said, albeit he's seldom interviewed, is completely positive. Whatever, the coaching staff will have learned enough to decide if he really can be our number 1 and will act appropriately.

Whoever replaces David isn't going to be ready made to his level, the same as when we signed him.

I am expecting a youngish, but experienced GK to come in and take on the battle for number 1. La Liga has a couple of options, and no doubt they'll be others, let's wait and see!
risky business, though. look at Bazunu at Southampton this year, for example. i think the club have recognised, with Pontus and then Mee, that sometimes experience in certain positions can be vital...

Would defo take Mendy from Chelsea? If we finish strong and hes guaranteed a big 5 year deal.. Or am I living in fantasy land

There is going to be risk with whoever we sign, it's just a case of what risks we are willing to take.

An experienced goalkeeper may offer some immediate security, but likely demands a higher wage than we can afford. All this depends on who is available in the summer.

Personally I would be looking at Kelleher from Liverpool as an option, or Unai Simon of Bilbao.

David Raya

I sort of assumed that Strakosha was brought in to become ready to be his replacement, but given his absence for a lot of the season (for whatever reason) I'm not sure how likely that is now.

Either way, we need a ball playing goalkeeper who can fit our style. We can't have a stopgap in there for a year or two at this level. Not the easiest position to fill but hopefully we'll be in a very strong negotiating position given our place in the Prem and being able to offer a number 1 slot to someone.

as Patto alludes to, he's probably out of our range, cost-wise

Mendy isn't getting to play any time soon, however my guess is we wouldn't pay his wages and rightly so. Out of interest how does it feel making your first post after 2 years? Interesting first post :)

This is why I think the club will only entertain offers north of £30m. Given his value to the team and the potential of him joining a rival, they may as well keep him for another season and help the club achieve their goals then let him leave on a free.

The extra success achievable with an established keeper could easily be worth quite a few million with the club’s current trajectory.
No chance, we’re a business with a well documented strategy to buy low and sell high.
We will not allow him to run down his contract and move for nothing next summer when we can cash in and get £15-20M this summer, it’s not your money but if it was you would do the same.

Has anyone suggested otherwise??

Mendy is absolute gash with the ball at his feet, the way we play would not suit him in the slightest.
He's also not a very good goalkeeper.

David Raya

My pick for the 2nd would be caoimhin kelleher IF he'd be happy to fight to earn his place.
Based on not very much this is also my choice. Think it’s the right type of Brentford signing with big potential sale value if it goes well 2-3 years down the track. Strakohsa remains a bit of an unknown to me as I missed West Ham, but a battle between those two for #1 ought to give us two decent shots at getting it right.

David Raya

very much what the two above me have said - fitness concerns and general discontent, plus not too impressive so far... the jury is very much out. in any case i would hope we're still looking, but it's going to be hard to replace Dave anyway. don't begrudge him his move (and no fannying around here, i think it's inevitable and he's given us plenty), but he's probably top 10 in the world and whoever we get in is not going to be that...
Change of tune on Strakosha or what?

How GOOD is David Raya? (Video)

“In-depth tactical analysis of Brentford's goalkeeper David Raya. He's been linked to Manchester United and Chelsea but what are his key tactical attributes and more importantly... just how good is he?”

So apparently he's bang average and has found his ceiling with us :ROFLMAO:

How has this analytical genius not been snapped up by a top 6 club

David Raya

I love Raya and recognise how important he is to the team and also our success over the past few seasons, I just find all the speculation now quite irksome. Yeh I get now we're 'bigger news' it's all part of the package etc and how his agent will no doubt be putting out the feelers and how David is only responding with factual answers regarding his contract situation but it's still bloody annoying and distracting. He's our player until such time as a offer we can't refuse comes in or his contract runs down - the former obviously one assumes- so until then let's all get on with it.....feel better for getting that off my chest ;)

Just ‘sources’ which is obviously not cast iron but interesting that this is being put out there.

David Raya

At that price he would be worth keeping for another year.
Easy when it’s someone else’s money and I’d love to keep him and let him run down his contract rather than sell for less than he’s really worth but that bucks the model

David Raya

Why would we stand in his way though? I doubt if Man U or Spurs come knocking that he'd really want to stay and we certainly wouldn't force him to.

Not many opportunities come along like those and it would change David's life forever to move to a club of that stature. He's earned that opportunity, let's not sour our relationship with him.

The only way he stays is if no one in the top 4-5 come in for him and he extends his contract out of a lack of options.

Couldn't agree more, and I think (hope) if we manage a spot in europe it would sweeten the deal to stay. No way we can compete with the wages a top 5 would offer

Because we are not a philanthropic society

David Raya

Err really, I can’t be bothered
What you cannot be bothered about finishing in the top half season 2023/24 or perhaps Europe because should we do so it may just be Raya who makes the difference, not nailed on but he could. With £40 however we could make a massive difference to the team over the next few seasons to compensate for his loss.

40 quid isn't going to go very. Even for us who are wizards in the transfer market.

David Raya

No way more like 30-40
Not a hope in hell I'm afraid - nobody is paying that for a keeper with 12 months left and isn't playing for an established club in European competition. There have been less than 5 in history sold for more than 35m....

David Raya

There is clearly a price where guaranteeing premiership survival and probably higher finish money etc is worth more than the fee for David. What that is who knows but 20 million might be not enough to risk selling.
I suspect they see Cox as the ultimate successor but he really needs at least one season on loan at a decent level first

I suspect the injury situation with strakosha has really complicated the situation

David Raya

Glad to see we’re getting a bit of retaliation in first…

All a bit Captain Obvious... Brentford won't sell player unless offer meets valuation shock!

Maybe we will keep him then..PL survival is worth way more than selling Raya for £20/25m

Tottenham want to sign England goalkeeper Jordan Pickford this summer, even though the 29-year-old has just signed a new long-term contract at Everton. (Sun)
Good, one less destination for David
