Do We Need Another Forward??

You don't get it, do you? We don't play 4-4-2.

I get it perfectly. The question being posed is whether our forwards are scoring enough goals, not whether our midfield are scoring enough to compensate. Listing all the midfielders that have scored a goal is missing the point... I would say that you just don't get it.

Do We Need Another Forward??

I think we do need another forward, but there could be a couple of interim changes in current personnel if the right person isn't available.

For me Pritchard needs a rest. Looks cream crackered.

You could bring big Nick in to play the lone striker, Andre goes right (where he scored a lot of goals last season), Dallas or Moses on the left and Jota comes central. I don't think Andre deserves to be dropped, I just think he's struggling to battle against two big experienced centre backs week after week. Plus it gets Jota central which I might have mentioned elsewhere in the last 24hrs.

I think Saunders coming back is also a positive. Could go straight in to the Pritchard role.

Nothing against AP, just think we need to manage him carefully.

Do We Need Another Forward??

I think any side with Simon Cox, Hal Kanu Robson and Jamie Mackie to select from up front will get goals so think Reading will be ok. Leeds and Brum you may well be right as both poor but says something about how strong the league when such big clubs are being considered?

Yes but i've got good money on the royals to go down. Thought they might implode

I listed the players from the attacking front three who have scored; I call those "forwards". If I had listed midfielders, then Douglas would have been top of the list. If you consider the central player of the front three to be the only forward, then only one is playing at any one time. That player should be chipping in with goals but the important measure is the number of goals scored while the player is on the field, the vital role is to facilitate others. Nevertheless, we need more from that position than we're currently getting, so - to the original point - yes, it would be really good to get another forward... but only if better than Gray. There's little point in filling the bench with also-rans. I think that Hogan would have been bought as that player, with Gray as the player on the bench, unfortunately, it's not worked out like that.

We get it but we have 3 strikers one of which isn't playing any football and one that isn't any good leaving Gray for 70 minutes. It would be nice for us to replace Gray after 70 minutes with somebody that make a difference. We all know we play one up front and we are not trying to make any changes to that but it so obvious we need another striker.

Do We Need Another Forward??

Im not sure if we need another striker but we probably need a different type of striker who can play the lone striker role as all the strikers we have are used to playing off another forward apart from big nick
But andre is learning this new role as at luton he played off paul benson and andre will be good given time,so we need to find someone how can play the lone striker role who can hold up the ball and bring our midfielders into play.

Stop that. You ruin your valid points by dismissing Proschwitz on so little evidence.

A similar type of player to Gray would be welcome. I thought Ebanks-Blake might have been that player, but that's not happening.

I am sure that if the management team are concerned, they will be doing all they can to rectify the problem.

Do We Need Another Forward??

What would be really good is a forward we can start with to give AG a bit of a rest and perhaps bring him on with 20 mins to go for a few games.

Do We Need Another Forward??

We absolutely need another striker.

Our main striker is a bloke (who is doing really well) who was playing in the fifth tier last year.

Nick does not have enough mobility for me to be Plan A - although is a useful guy to bring on to offer something different.

Errrr....and at the moment due to injury or unsuitability....that's it.

That is not sustainable.

Do We Need Another Forward??

That's just semantics . Whether we are a good side or a very good side or a very very good side, fact is that with a little bit more in terms of striking options we would be an even better side than we are. I'm very happy with what we have done so far both in terms of performances and points tally but it isn't rocket science to see that without a like for like replacement for Andre Gray when he tires after 60/70 mins or even to give him a bit of a rest altogether we aren't maximising the potential of the side.

Excellent post. Spot on.

Do We Need Another Forward??

You have to remember that we still have Will Grigg, playing well at MK with 6 goals so far which I think we can recall in Jan, with him having a good run playing first team football could be beneficial for us later.

I guess the fact we had Ebanks-Blake on trial confirms Warbs is on the look out.

Is Marcello Trotta still at Fulham If so would he be of use on loan for rest of season?

He would be of use to a League 1 side. From what I've seen of the Championship, I reckon Marcello would be out of his depth.

Dwight Gayle may be looking for a loan move?

Do We Need Another Forward??

If we get him they may as well just give us the trophy now

:D

Well, I reckon he's available for a loan move, it depends what the costs would be!

But then again what's that Italian chap doing nowadays? :zzzzz: :banghead:

Yeah, what's that Italian chap Antonio Di Natale up to now?

I expect that is where you are going wrong then. Look at the BFC official website and you will see the players are clearly listed as midfielders or strikers (or forwards as some call them). So if we go back to the question of this thread which is the simply do we need another forward then I think it is a valid argument that we rae light in that area. It doesn't ask if the midfield are compensating, maybe you can start another thread about that?

I think Grey is decent, contributes well despite not getting the goals. Not convinced by Proschwitz though as a backup... so yes?

That would be lovely. Gayle that is.

Aaah, you're using the O/S as your point-of-reference; Tommy Smith's a forward and James Tarkowski, Alan McCormack and Nico Yennaris are midfielders, then. I was foolishly using the position they play on the pitch! Regardless, I still agree with the basic premise of the question.

Do We Need Another Forward??

I do think we need another striker, just purely to add competition for Gray. I don't think Nick P is making a strong enough case to be pushing for Gray's shirt.

If we are going to loan a player in then he'll need to be much better than we have got. Otherwise, I can see him persevering with big Nick as our second striker option until the transfer window reopens. It is notoriously difficult to bring in English players during this time as everyone is looking for a striker. I wonder whether Dom Dwyer may be an option again from the MLS? Depends whether we are willing to spend again (rather than loan) when we spent a lot of money on Hogan.

Maybe I'm a little harsh but judged on all home games this season when Gray goes off the team doesn't look that impressive. To be honest if NP was doing the business I would still be looking at forwards because 3 isn't enough, when one of those doesn't play. It also gives you an option of playing two upfront if your losing, which maybe more to NP strenghts.

Do We Need Another Forward??

Bolton are after Gary Hooper on loan, is he out of our price brackett,

Do We Need Another Forward??

If he's still expecting to earn over £20K a week I reckon yes.

Bloody money.

We still have to cut our cloth according to our means and FFP. Proven forwards at this level ain't gonna come cheap.

Do We Need Another Forward??

I guess the problem we face is that with us spending decent money on 5 forwards already, there's a limit to what we can get.

Do We Need Another Forward??

Gray is decent but not clinical. Big Nick is a completely different type of player (I think) when sometimes we just need a less knackered Gray for the last 15/20 minutes. We dont even seem to be bringing Betinho on so can't really rate him.

A better standard of striker would have seen us take three points from Wigan at the weekend.

I think we are plenty good enough for this division overall but sooner or later our blunt goalscoring edge up front is going to cost us. There was little difference between us and Watford other than Vydra's goalscoring ability. They are now top and have added Foristieri and Deeney back into the mix.

Failure to address this will sooner or later take us nearer the bottom than the top.

Do We Need Another Forward??

Will tomorrow be the night we get to see Betinho get a few decent minutes under his belt perhaps?

Only if we are 4-0 up with 15 mins to go

Do We Need Another Forward??

We've scored 5 goals away from home in 6 games. Plenty of nice play but having difficulty in creating chances and not being clinical enough.

Strange considering it's the same players who look like scoring 2-3 every home game.

Do We Need Another Forward??

I've seen a few posters calling for 'a partner for Gray'. That would mean changing our formation.

Changing the formation that has served us so well, thus far, would be bonkers.

I think some Brentford fans aren't used to not having much to moan about...

BUT, if we could find the next Dixie Dean or Brian Clough...

Gray would benefit from having a strike partner but as you say that would mean changing our formation and risk getting over run in midfield. So, although he is not used to the lone striker role Gray is having to adapt and take one for the team.

Regards big Nick I think some of the comments have been a bit harsh, though at times his first touch and ball control remind me of Bob Booker. A comment I read on a separate thread which described nick as "doing all the right things but not very well" about sums him up for me so far. His positional play looks pretty good but not his first touch and ball control. Maybe he'll get better or maybe we've just been spoilt by how well all the other signings have done and he's not so bad.

Another striker would be great if we could get the right player and if budgets permit. Me thinking big had aspirations of Joel Campbell from Arsenal but having been at the Emirates on Saturday and see him come on and liven up the game, I think I best dream on!

I'm 51, I think I position myself ok but like Nick my first touch and ball control isn't good. Not very good in the air despite being a big old unit at 6 ft, pretty slow and no proof of any form in recent years, am I beyond consideration?

Bring your boots, tomorrow...

Do We Need Another Forward??

Do we need another forward?....do we need a goalscorer should be the question. Our players can play a fast accurate passing game all over the pitch but in front of goal the accurate pass becomes a wild shot wide or over the target.
