Do We Need Another Forward??
All this talk and panic over WE NEED ANOTHER STRIKER is now getting very boring , I think the management have enough brains between them to also realise what our big weakness is (finding the back of the net) good strikers are like hens teeth unless you have at least 3-5 million pounds to spare.
Our only option is the loan market, and so is everyone else’s, no doubt Mark is trying to pull out all the stops with his connections, but it’s not that easy, the two most valuable players to any club are goalkeepers & strikers, most clubs are reluctant to let quality players go on loan as it could leave them exposed if they have an injury crisis, so it’s not an easy task.
Just take a look at the table, we are halfway up/down, then just look at the teams below us, for our first time back in this league we are holding our own, with a few more goals we could be slightly better, If anyone had said at the end of last season this would be our position in October I would have been more than happy.
Whilst we are not winning some of these matches, we are not losing many either, should we have a reversal of results I’m sure management will act in the appropriate way.

He scored one last night, but was incorrectly ruled for offside. Would much prefer having a player who is doing all the hard work he is at the moment, and know he will start scoring as putting the ball in the net is no different at this level than Conference (albeit with less frequent opportunities), than having a loanee. It is however a big step up, and he is looking better every week. I would prefer we stick with him as I am sure he will come good and has potential to really set the league alight with a bit more experience at this level rather than cast him off already.

The way we are set up we are creating chances for the midfield as well as Gray. we are just not putting them away, stating the obvious. Gray is getting better each game and I think will continue to improve. Judge, Jota, Moses, Pritchard are all well capable of finding the net. Its a team problem IMO not just the lack of goals from a striker. Easy to say but they just need to be persuaded to take just a fraction longer when the chance comes and not snatch at it.
If anyone thinks its easy though just look at the sitters that Rooney missed against the crap opposition England were playing against last week.

Better then NP & Betinho. And why settle for avoiding relegation, we have proved this season we are better then that and with an addition forward we could clearly push for top half.

People are not casting off Andre, he has been better then I could or most people could ever have expected him to be at this stage. But I wasn't expecting him to play every game and be our only real striker. We need somebody that will challenge Andre for his place. Neither NP or Betinho seem to be able to do this, people are saying Betinho isn't ready for Championship football but he doesn't even play in the development squad games. How will he ever be ready if he doesnt play.

We don't need another striker. We need players who can hit a target 8 feet high by 24 feet wide. They can accurately pass to a player on the pitch so what's the problem.

I am not saying you are casting him off, but the poster I responded too certainly seemed to be.
I agree he needs more competition. As for Betinho, none of us know if he is ready or not for the Championship/Dev Squad. The only people who know are the people who see him traing every day. If they say he isn't ready then I trust them more than my judgement on him. I am sure he will play at some point, but perhaps there is more going on than we all realise.

10 teams in our division have scored less goals than us. No need to over react to 2 blanks in 2 games. The reading game was only 2 and a half weeks ago and I don't think anyone was too worried at that game about a lack of goals.

Betinho wasn't brought in to play, Warburton made a point about him probably not seeing much game time and instead it was a chance for us to showcase our ability to develop players to Sporting. If Betinho goes back, has learnt something and speaks highly of us then Sporting are more likely to loan us their better youngsters.
We've been unlucky, we brought in three forwards and one of them has suffered a serious injury. Gray probably wasn't going to see as much game time as he has and Prochwitz probably wasn't going to be our only other option, but it is what it is and come January we'll have Grigg back and if he's not ready for Championship football I imagine we'll look to bring someone else in. Have faith in the management, we've got one of the brightest managers in the country in charge.

That wasn't quite what Warbs said, I'm assuming you are talking about the fans forum comments, he said Betinho needed to learn and adapt to what we are doing at BFC and that that might take a little bit of time. He then went on to talk about building the relationship with Sporting Lisbon. If there was no chance of Betinho playing he wouldn't be on the bench. I reckon he'll get some game time this weekend.

How many teams forwards have only score 3 goals. We are 12th with that record just another striker and we could be pushing top 8 that's where I'm going. I haven't a clue what's going on with Betinho.

I was speaking to a Reading fan who came the Brentford game tonight. He is depressed about his football despite having Cox, Pogrebnyak, Mackie etc and after his brief view of us, he would love to have the likes of Jota and Pritch in his side. The message therefore is we ain't doing badly with what we got and need to be careful what we wish for.

Do worry about our inability to secure decent forwards.
Hayes didn't work. Clayton only worked when played out wide. Grigg didn't work. Big Nick looks, I'll be kind, average. Betinio is getting splinters in his backside.
Is it me or do very few of the signings come off! We were also in for Delort and Riera who joined Wigan instead, and neither of them have done anything to date either. Maybe they'd do better playing for us, but bottom line is they aren't scoring goals.
Of course Grey has lots of potential and Hogan could be the best thing since sliced bread, but don't think our track record with striker recruitment is particularly good.

It's not just us, consistent, effective goalscorers are rarer than rare and cost a fortune, reckon we compare favourably with most other similar sized clubs in recent years.
Didn't see too many strikers in league below we desperately needed, most rated Callum Wilson, Assombolonga started well but had two poor games against us and Tyrone Barnett who cost millions even worse.
Wolves had Doyle on £40k a week who was ordinary and then the lively Dicko but he was on big money as well.
Can't think of many others, Revel gave TC and Harlee a tough time but he's not Championship class.
In short on our money it's tough to buy much in such a poorly stocked , over priced shop.

I trust in the management team, we all should, we're joint 10th after over 25% of the season level on points with Cardiff and Blackburn having won more than we've lost or drawn with a key player out. We've lost one game at home against virtually a Premiership side that we could have got something from
Some people need a reality check questioning if the Manager is doing a good job!

Think you need a chill pill. I've never questioned whether the manager is doing a good job or that we should be doing better than we are. I'm personally delighted on both counts.
Someone posted that Betinio was signed not to play but to show we can develop players. Firstly I think that's crazy and probably untrue, but based on the statement all I questioned is how we prove to Sporting that we are developing him?
Surely the acid test of any development is on the pitch? Unless we report back saying Betinio went to the shops on his own today, Betinio asked for a ticket in English at the station yesterday, Betinio washed his own clothes this week, etc.
As I say I'm not privy to how we are and he is developing. That's why I put it to the great minds of the GPG.

The only two forwards I've seen at Brentford this season who I've thought would make a massive improvement for us are Ross McCormack and Cameron Jerome (I didn't see Vydra). If that's the standard we really need to make a big difference then we might as well forget it. Maybe it's difficult for forwards in this division and there isn't a massive upgrade ready and waiting out there - I certainly can't see that many young prem reserves who I would expect to make an immediate impact (a case in point being Bamford who's only managed the 1 goal).
It could therefore be the case that our current strikers are as good as it will get for us until we're able to spend bigger money.
