While it all seemed totally random I suspect the police took this rather seriously, given the fact that they clearly scrambled a police helicopter which hovered over the stadium…. That would not have been cheap!

They would almost certainly have been airborne already and probably fancied coming over to have a look as something to do

Tbf none of the helicopters were directly over the stadium. It’s very frequent to see helicopters following the Thames (they’re meant to!)

I think it’s almost certainly for the reason you gave, but also, if they just let it happen, you’d soon be inundated with loads of drones.

While annoying, it’s the best course of action to take a no tolerance policy to it.

If you look at the airspace rules covering the distance the drone was from Heathrow and the designated runway final approach routes you will find Banana is correct

I feel I have learned something for that I am grateful but it won't help me pass my aviation degree I should have taken 25 years ago. Damn.

From my angle certainly didn’t look like there were any helicopters directly over the stadium at any point.

Never knew about heliroutes, only thought the H91 went near us! Quite cool reading up on it, learn something new…

I think I have detected the problem. Loftus Road, Craven Cottage and Stamford Bridge (indicated) are all geo-zoned (as is Lords and WImbledon and HMP Wormword Scrubs).

BCS has no such protection!
