i personally think that there's better ways to go about winning the ball than the way he chose. this is the message that the FA are (or should be) trying to convey...
i think he chose to try and win the ball in a way that ensured he'd get some man too. we all know it's a physical game too, but i definitely would prefer emphasis on skill rather than violence.
my own views on this come from too many bad 5-a-side experiences, where our footballing skills (stop laughing) were often defeated by sides who kicked first, played football second. that's not the game i love, though judging by some (many?) comments on here, i may be in a minority.
(it must be said, i like a good 50-50 challenge as much as the next man, but only when both players honestly challenge competitively for the ball......)
