Eduardo..

We all agree cheating should be stamped out but will this video citation be applied purely for simulation or will all incidents be punished from now on that the referee missed? I've just seen Messi try to head butt a Shaktar player - that was a red card offence so will he be punished retrospectively?

The media and some well-placed Scottish officials within UEFA has caused a pretty knee-jerk reaction.

That is going to be the problem if they take any action. Ban Eduardo and UEFA/ FIFA will have to be consistent every time it happens. How will they deal with it in Spain where such tricks are regarded as just "clever" football?

Having said that you have to start somewhere and a few high profile players getting bans may stamp it out.

Eduardo..

Ironic that McGeedy of Celtic was shown a second yellow card for diving yesterday.

Not as ironic as Mowbray's post-match comments about referees "now looking for it" and "99 times out of 100 would not normally be given."

Considering Celtic and the SFA's role in leaning on UEFA over the past week, I think anything Mowbray said which remotely tries to defend his player is hypocritical.

Eduardo..

did you see Eboue's dive in the Manc-Arse game too?? terrible :nono: but then, that guy is a total muppet...

I don't think he dived, he tried to ride the tackle:confused:

Eduardo..

Delighted he has been banned, expect Arsenal will appeal though.

I would be happy to see several players charged in each round of the tournament if it helps eradicate diving. I just wish the Premier League had a similar rule that could be invoked.

Eduardo..

2 games is a strange ban for a "dive" that would only normally carry a yellow card??

Eduardo..

Saw this for the first time on the TV tonight. Can't believe it. Absolute joke.

Eduardo..

Eduardo..

I've just seen it for the first time too. More unbelievable is that people were actually trying to defend him.

Eduardo..

Totally agree. The player has been handed a more severe punishment for no reason other than the fact he successfully duped the referee. If the referee catches him diving in the first place, then he gets booked and the episode is closed.

Other clubs will now expect video to be used for every similar incident with consistent punishment, but if it helps stamp out diving then all the better.

Eduardo..

The yellow card would have been issued with no penalty/goal resulting from the dive.

Eduardo..

I heard rumours that Arsenal were going to sign young Tom Daley the British diver by 5pm today

That's because Platini hates the English game so will do anything in his power to stop it.

The balance of power is slighting shifting back to Spain & Italy...Gordon Brown has seen to that with 50% tax.

Going back to Eduardo, I think he's been treated harshly. Now UEFA have opened the floodgates will the same punishment be handed out to the likes of Ronaldo, Kaka, Messi, Et'o, Ibrahimovic if in the same context. It's not inconceivable that a knockout game or even final be decided by a dodgy freekick or pen due to diving...What's action is taken then.

Eduardo..

If I remember correctly somebody else received a two game ban for simulation last year.

If so at least UEFA are showing some consistency for a change

That was in an international against Scotland, when the SFA complained again.

...........there's nothing wrong with the opposition diving against the sweaties..............

Which is what Eduardo did:) except the Sweaties he dived against are Sweaties in name only if you see what I mean

Eduardo..

I would have thought a Brazilian player would be above such playacting, if he were good enough to make their team, that is:fishing:

Eduardo..

:eek::eek: never saw that coming

Eduardo..

Common sense by UEFA....two game ban overturned.

Common sense ? He cheated, dived, got a penalty and then winked at the camera.
UEFA bows to the big boys again. Disgusting.

Eduardo..

He dived, UEFA rightly ban him FOR DIVING (or, as they put it 'deceiving the referee'), but then overturn the two match ban on appeal, despite initially banning him for cheating/diving. So what, now he didn't dive? Or he did, but it suddenly isn't a punishable offence again?

UEFA really laying down the law there.

Eduardo..

UEFA have realised they have opened up a can of worms. As a result would be banning people every week and they obviously don't have the balls to do so. :nono:

They know that the game would have become a farce with everyone claiming a dive after virtually every game. Diving is sh*t but how do you stop it? Norwich could claim that a dive cost them the game last night and so could most bloody teams in most leagues at the weekend. It's a shame.

Eduardo..

Arse proved that the goalkeeper got a slight touch on him lol

Eduardo..

probably got over turned to avoid having to go through all this again and again over the forthcoming season with the champion leagues just starting as probably cost loads in costs!!!! you punish one they all got be done, which would be a bout 3 players per match!

Eduardo..

After seeing him holding his eye tonight after being caught in possession for the first goal I have lost all sympathy. He should be charged with "attempting to deceive the referee" by UEFA. In fact, if they don't then football has become a joke sport

Eduardo..

 i think there should be a rule like this, and they should tell everyone that they're going to start giving out one-game bans for anyone caught, with the bans escalating for serial offenders... it'd be messy for the first few weeks but it'd sort football out over the long run...

the way they went about punishing Eduardo for the dive in the Celtic match was stupid :(

Eduardo..

Not sure their penalty wasn't a bit of an Eduardo to be honest. Poetic justice maybe but still a dive IMHO.

I thought the guy just slipped in trying to avoid Gallas's foot - neither a dive, nor a pen, but the pundits all felt there was some contact

what goes around comes around, dunno how pundits thought there was contact!

Eduardo..

The original two match ban was a bit excessive, as had the referee deemed a dive during the game it would only have been a yelow card, maybe a retrospective yellow card would have been sufficient.

Do they carry over from qualifying into the group stage?

Eduardo..

yellow cards are not carried over?

Eduardo..

Scrub what I said then.

Eduardo..

Didn't Ferguson get Beckham and Scholes to deliberately get themselves booked in match 5 so they would be suspended in match 6 as they were already qualified?

Eduardo..

that's different tho, innit

...................don't suppose Scholes needed asking twice!!................:dirtylittlenorthernbastardsmiley:

The point being that they couldn't be booked in a meaningless match and miss a meaningful one in the next round

Eduardo..

there's been a lot of talk about using technology and it looks as though the Europa Cup experiment with extra officials behind the goals will be rolled out further.
In Eduardo's case footage was scrutinised and an offence noted. He was then banned. On appeal, the process was repeated and no offence found. Despite the footage the ref was deemed to be right.
The extra officials will be able to 'advise' the referee on goalmouth incidents. If the ref dosent see the situation the same he'll give what he sees. So what's the frigging point of having extra numpties getting in the way of fans behind the goal! :banghead:

Eduardo..

 moronic
Banana's suggestion is so simple to implement, why oh why don't they :(
