A huge British talent that is showing that Wimbledon was no fluke. She didn't just beat the world rank 41 she thrashed her 6-0, 6-1.

Wow! This performance against the world number 41, who recently beat Barty at the Olympics and ousted a seed in the first round of the US Open, was sensational. She overcame her opponent with powerful and accurate hitting and when she came to the net, albeit not that often, I don't think that she lost a single point. Sorribes Tormo only just managed to avoid a double bagel by winning her last service game at 6-0 5-0 down. Emma was simply ruthless and clinical and had very few unforced errors.
Her 2nd round match v Zhang, another top 50 player was almost as impressive, winning fairly easily. I didn't see her 1st round match which was also a 2-0 win.
She just seems to have found another level compared to Wimbledon and she is a VERY exciting prospect who, if carefully managed / coached, stays injury-free and has a bit of luck here and there, can be a top top player.
Next up is probably Barty (although she has yet to play her 3rd round match) who will obviously be a tougher opponent. I don't expect Emma to win but, on the evidence of her last 2 matches, am hopeful that she will put up a good fight.

Having now made her mark stateside that's small change in comparison with the likely monstrous sums that sponsors will be willing to pay in an imminent bunfight to sign her up as the face of their brands. She's a PR dream and can probably name her price. I hope she has some very honest people looking after her in this department who have her best interests at heart.

Before yesterday’s game, I was reading that she does her homework on the opponent, and decides her tactics with her team for each match. All very Brentford, even Don Revie-ish. It’s all still new to her of course, and we will see if it’s possible to maintain that level in the day to day tournaments, whilst schlepping around the world. So far, so good!

So 5 pm is Zverev v Sinner
Then its Raducanu v Rogers
The Canadiam former champ Andreescu gets the night session as well as Djokovic
So she should be on about 8pm on Monday on Amazon Prime

TBH, it wasn't as good a performance as her 3rd round match because Sorribes Tormo did at least get into quite a few rallies with her, whereas, after the first 4 or 5 games, there were loads of errors coming off Rogers's racquet. But who cares and she was mentally very tough, apart from a nervy first couple of games, and her ground strokes were pretty solid.
Onto the Olympic champion and no. 11 seed next. Good luck Emma!

There is a big gap in women’s tennis for a dominant player to emerge.
In the last 20 years, only Justine Henin and Serena have been the stand out players in terms of Grand Slams won. And Henin has been retired for a decade and Serna has won 1(?) Slam in the last 5 years and will likely retire very soon.
Players like Barty and Osaka could fill that gap but Osaka is currently on a break and Barty lacks that killer consistency that Djokovic, Nadal, Federer have had in the men’s game.
Raducanu has shown at a very young age that she can compete with good players on the big stage. Without prematurely putting her up on a pedestal, she must be the best hope for a British women’s Slam winner since the 70’s.

Johanna Konta has been World No 4 in the last five years. No doubt that Raducanu has the potential to get to that level though. It's staying there that seems to be the problem for many women players. I'd like to understand why it's much less common for them to perform consistently over long periods than their male counterparts.

I'd say that you'd have to go back to the 70's when we had two grand slam champions in Virginia Wade an Sue Barker.

Robson was on the same trajectory, 4R at both Wimbledon and US as an 18yo, plus Wimbledon girls champion at 14. Lots of promise and talk of winning grand slams, but career absolutely blighted by injury. She’s not played for about 4 years and still only 27.

Laura Robson has never been as good as Radacanu is right now.
She was absolutely dominant and superb and had a bit of bully about her play. Think near the end she returned a first serve with such distain, 0-15 at a blink of an eye.
I know Konta has been around but she doesn’t seem very likeable. ??

I'm not sure that it's a male / female difference as such, I just think to maintain a level of dominance over a long period you have to be a really special player of which there are very few. In the current era we've been spoilt in the men's game having Fed, Nadal and Djokovic and to a lesser extent Murray. Outside of that, the top 10 has been very variable over that period.

I've just calculated that,even if she loses in the quarter final, she should jump up to the mid-80's in the women's ranking from her current ranking of 150 (depending on the upwards or downwards movement of other players in the rankings after the US Open).

Anyway back on topic - yet to drop a set and lost the least number of games in reaching the quarter finals since Serena Williams in 2013. Destined to fly up the world rankings to inside the top 100 and surely will be a top 10 player inside 12 months at this rate
