That's a really tough next three (potential) opponents for her but based on her performance in the first two rounds, who knows what she could do.Damn, she looked in really good nick this morning and the new coach is obviously making a difference - readily dispatched. If she can get passed Rybakina, it's Paolini (on ranking) before a rematch with Sabalenka in the QFs. How great would that be !!!
You cant really judge her against this oppoAnd her seeded oppo in Round 2 is out
So Emma plays a complete unknown qualifier
Janice Tjen of Indonesia
Has never played a match on WTA tour until today
In April she was ranked about 380 and has been playing in Challengers
Caveat: i know nothing, but yes that seems like quite the gauntlet. Sabalenka won't fancy playing her though after that match a couple of weeks ago. That's a really tough next three (potential) opponents for her but based on her performance in the first two rounds, who knows what she could do.
Very much agree - the only thing we can say with any certainty is if she’s still standing after the next three rounds then she has a great chance at winning it all. Massive ask - here’s hoping all three potential opponents go out today and tomorrow. ?That's a really tough next three (potential) opponents for her but based on her performance in the first two rounds, who knows what she could do.
I can, because I watched it.You cant really judge her against this oppo
Friday will be so much tougher
TBF, she's also given Screamylenka a run for her money a couple of times recently. No shame in getting steamrolled by Rybakina, but this is a fair snapshot where she is.
Comfortably able to dispose of lower ranked players, probably on her way to reach Top 20.
Can compete against Top 10 with similar profiles to herself like Pegula and Navarro. But struggles against the very best, in particular the power players.
Screamylenka came through against (Emma’s finalist) Fernandez last night.TBF, she's also given Screamylenka a run for her money a couple of times recently.
Herself before countryGood win v Cristian in the first round at the Korean open .
I am not interested in her ethnic blending. Just stating she choose herself, quite late in the day, over country. Which came aa quite a surprise to the countries captain. I think she made the right decision to go after the ranking points to help improve seedings at Aussie slam and progress to later stagesOnly a third of her.
Yes, will move into the top 32 now.I am not interested in her ethnic blending. Just stating she choose herself, quite late in the day, over country. No idea who the others are any indication on your thoughts whether she can beat these chumps and progressFinally seeded for the next Masters event (Ranked 33rd last week but Sabalenka, Keys and one other are skipping this so is Seed no 30)
Starts later this week in Beijing
Her Section of the draw looks like this
30RADUCANU, Emma GBR
Bye
VEKIC, Donna CRO
Qualifier
TOMLJANOVIC, Ajla AUS
STARODUBTSEVA, Yuliia UKR
Bye
5PEGULA, Jessica USA
The Ukrainian girl has had a career high ranking this year, but fallen back a bit since. If ER plays her, she should win. The other 3 are all capable of beating Emma, and may well have done so in the past.No idea who the others are any indication on your thoughts whether she can beat these chumps and progress
Donna Vekic made the semi final of Wimbledon last year !No idea who the others are any indication on your thoughts whether she can beat these chumps and progress
Surprised that Bucsa had to qualify as she has seemed to be doing pretty well lately and is currently seeded 68 in the live rankings. Anyway, Em-Zee Rads beat her in straight sets to take on Pegula in the next round.Cristina Bucsa, qualified then beat Vekic and plays Emma during the Man U game at lunchtime
Missed 3 match points in the tie break...now lost it so into a deciding set. This will test her character as she should have won - fluffed an easy shot at match point.
Yes got that a bit wrong didn’t I!In a not unsurprising turn of events she loses the 3rd set 6-0 - not sure if there was an injury but a shall we say disappointing way to go out.
Blimey that escalated in a hurry. In a not unsurprising turn of events she loses the 3rd set 6-0 - not sure if there was an injury but a shall we say disappointing way to go out.
New Career High ranking for Ann Li, so very much a player on the up.
Just saw the end of the Muchova v Kostyuk match and, right after the match, it was a real struggle for Muchova to even get out of her chair for an interview and she said that it was her first visit to Wuhan and "God, it's hot!'. At the moment the temperature there is 32 degrees, but it feels like 39! Wouldn't be surprised if a few players retire through heat exhaustion if it stays this hot.Seems like she was suffering a lot through the match which explains the result.

Could she not have just rolled onto the court and suffered defeat to avoid my bet on her opponent being made void
If throwing the towel in was an Olympic sport …That seems to be a feature of players playing Raducanu
It’s the balls when they get fluffy she just can’t copeStarted well but then suffered again .
If she can’t cope with the climate out there, then why put yourself through it? Play somewhere else. There’s usually several tournaments happening every week.Started well but then suffered again .
Think her mixed Chinese heritage means that she's very big over there so I can imagine some major sponsors would be extremely disappointed if she didn't go.If she can’t cope with the climate out there, then why put yourself through it? She needs a reset and even a total reevaluation for next year.
